Altcoins surge! XMR, AAVE, and WLD outperform as Bitcoin holds support

Business Mayor26-05-2025
Bitcoin, at press time, was consolidating above $109,000, showing resilience within the upper Bollinger Band range. The RSI was at at 67.71 – hovering near overbought territory – A sign of strong bullish momentum without immediate signs of exhaustion.
Meanwhile, the OBV remained flat – A sign of a pause in buying pressure, despite recent gains.

This steady range-trading in Bitcoin has opened the door for capital rotation into altcoins like XMR, AAVE, and WLD.
With BTC holding support and volatility compressing across the board, traders might be increasingly willing to chase higher returns in riskier assets. Especially since Bitcoin serves as a stable anchor for the market.
WLD breaks out, but…
Worldcoin has climbed by over 35% in the past two weeks, consolidating above $1.43 with its bullish momentum still intact.
The RSI was at 63.94 at press time, reflecting steady upward pressure without overbought signals. However, the CMF remained slightly negative, indicating a potential drop in sustained buying power.

This, after the broader privacy coin sector advanced by over 3%, pushing its combined valuation past $10 billion.
While the sector-wide rally did offer some respite, WLD's muted on-chain flows do raise some questions about whether it can maintain its gains without stronger capital inflows.
XMR hits overdrive, but is a cool-off coming?
Monero surged to $411, mirroring the broader privacy coin rally that pushed the sector past a $10 billion valuation.
However, its daily RSI soared to 81.86 – firmly in overbought territory – raising caution about a potential short-term correction. The MACD was bullish, with wide separation between signal lines, reinforcing the strength of the uptrend.

Still, the slight dip in daily volume hinted at waning momentum. While XMR has clearly benefited from the privacy coin narrative, traders may want to brace for consolidation or a retest unless fresh catalysts emerge to support sustained vertical price action.

AAVE joins the rally, but signs hinted at exhaustion
AAVE climbed to $267, extending gains from its mid-May breakout and riding the sector-wide upswing in privacy and DeFi-linked tokens.
However, with the RSI at 71.57, the asset entered overbought territory – Often a precursor to short-term pullbacks.

Despite solid momentum and higher lows supporting the uptrend, the recent string of small-bodied candles alluded to indecision creeping in.
With volume slightly falling too, bulls may need a fresh catalyst to sustain the climb. A brief consolidation phase could be healthy, especially after the nearly 80% rally seen over the past month.

Bitcoin To Hit $200,000 By Year-End, Bitwise's Matt Hougan Maintains

Bitwise Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan has laid out a compelling bullish thesis for Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) and Ethereum (CRYPTO: ETH), citing a powerful demand shock as the catalyst for explosive upside over the next 18 months. What Happened: In a podcast with Scott Melker, Hougan predicts Bitcoin will reach $200,000 by the end of 2025, driven by institutional demand growing 5 to 10 times faster than supply. Invest in Gold Thor Metals Group: Best Overall Gold IRA Priority Gold: Up to $15k in Free Silver + Zero Account Fees on Qualifying Purchase American Hartford Gold: #1 Precious Metals Dealer in the Nation He called this surge "a math problem," emphasizing: "When demand is 5x to 10x supply, the price tends to go up. And I think that's the story in crypto right now." He pointed to rising corporate adoption, such as Strategy (NASDAQ:MSTR) and other treasury allocators, as a key piece of the demand puzzle. The imbalance is even more pronounced in Ethereum, Hougan noted. Since mid-May, companies and ETFs have purchased 32x more ETH than has been issued, sparking what he describes as a 'demand shock.' Inflows into ETH ETFs have soared to $4.4 billion this month alone, suggesting the early stages of a major institutional reallocation. Also Read: Why It Matters: Hougan says the next major catalyst could be the integration of crypto into retirement accounts, highlighting Donald Trump's proposal to allow 401(k)s and IRAs to invest in Bitcoin. "That's $8 trillion in retirement accounts potentially gaining exposure to Bitcoin," Hougan said. "It's like a government-mandated DCA, 20 million Americans putting 2.5% of their wealth into BTC regularly." This growing infrastructure is also triggering what Hougan calls an "altcoin season in TradFi", where investors rotate profits from Bitcoin ETFs into Ethereum, crypto-treasury firms, and other digital assets. ARK Invest recently showcased this trend, selling off Coinbase (NASDAQ:COIN) stock to buy shares in Tom Lee's Bitcoin treasury company. Bitwise also sees yield generation on Bitcoin holdings as the most in-demand service among its institutional clients, further evidence of maturing market dynamics. Companies Are Buying This Crypto — and No, It's Not Bitcoin: Should You Invest Too?

The race for global cryptocurrency supremacy is hardly a race at all. The top player, bitcoin, is so big that its market capitalization is worth more than the combined market caps of the next 10 cryptos on this CryptoSlate list. That doesn't mean bitcoin is the only crypto worth investing in, though. Another name getting a lot of attention lately is ethereum, the No. 2 crypto with a price of about $3,780 and a market cap of roughly $456 billion. Read Next: Explore More: Although those numbers don't come close to bitcoin's — which boasts a price of almost $118,000 and a market cap above $2.3 trillion — ethereum still stands out because of its recent growth and potential as a winning investment. Company Investments Rising Much of ethereum's growth has been driven by corporate and institutional investors. As Yahoo Finance recently reported, some firms have been putting money into ethereum. Those firms include both large players like Coinbase Global and lesser-known names such as BitMine Immersion Technologies and SharpLink Gaming. Many investors are gravitating to ethereum because it lets them expand into the technology infrastructure behind digital assets and decentralized finance (DeFi), per Yahoo Finance. Check Out: 'More Utility Than Bitcoin' In case you're not familiar with ethereum, it's a decentralized, peer-to-peer network that enables the development of other cryptos. On it, developers can build and run applications, which are built using smart contracts, per Coinbase. Ethereum is the market leader in infrastructure that lets businesses and consumers transact among each other without banks, according to Yahoo Finance. 'Ethereum lets anyone … create their own token and thus their own community and incentivize communities with an economy basically,' Ray Youssef, CEO of NoOnes, a crypto marketplace, told Yahoo Finance. 'You could argue it has more utility than bitcoin.' Should You Invest In Ethereum? That utility helps explain why ethereum has been on a recent hot streak with investors. After touching a 2025 low of $1,387 in early April, its price has since risen more than 170%. Although ethereum still hasn't returned to its all-time high set in 2021, it recently hit its highest point in more than 3 1/2 years. Ethereum should keep trending higher as it draws interest from more companies, experts say. For example, digital asset platform Bit Digital recently announced that it moved its entire treasury from bitcoin to ethereum. 'We believe Ethereum has the ability to rewrite the entire financial system,' Bit Digital CEO Sam Tabar said in a press release. 'Bit Digital is aligning itself with Ethereum's long-term potential and positioning itself as a focused Ethereum treasury platform in the public markets.' Legislative Boost Ethereum has also gotten a boost from two new pieces of legislation. The Genius Act, which focuses on regulations for stablecoins, was signed by President Donald Trump in mid-July. The Clarity Act, which provides a regulatory framework for digital assets, is currently going through Congress. According to The Motley Fool, the combination of these acts 'might create a sort of 'perfect storm' for Ethereum's future development' because of its strong positions in both stablecoins and DeFi. Ultimately, ethereum has some tailwinds that could spell good news in the future, but investors should do their due diligence on ethereum before deciding to invest, as well as consider their own risk tolerance and financial goals.
