Maal Hijrah 1447H: Fahmi urges Muslims to embrace new beginnings
KUALA LUMPUR: Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has encouraged Muslims in Malaysia to use Maal Hijrah as a turning point for self-improvement and spiritual growth. He emphasised the need for repentance and renewed commitment to faith and good deeds.
'Let us turn a new page with a fresh spirit, a clean heart and the determination to continue contributing to the good of ourselves, our families, the country and society,' he said in a Facebook post today.
This year's Maal Hijrah celebration, themed 'Membangun Ummah MADANI,' focuses on building an inclusive and virtuous society. The theme also underscores the importance of nurturing human capital that excels both physically and spiritually.
Fahmi added, 'May our every step be always under the protection and blessings of Allah SWT. Happy Maal Hijrah 1447H.'

To help her son resolve the issue, Sue suggested assigning him additional household chores to earn extra pocket money. Some of the chores included: - Washing the dishes (RM2) - Cleaning the toilet (RM2) - Mopping the floor (RM2) Based on this system, the boy was expected to earn around RM70 to RM80 per month, which meant it would take him approximately five months to repay the full amount of RM370. Not wanting to delay the process, Sue also proposed that her son help clean his relatives' homes to earn more money — estimating that the debt could be cleared in three months if things went smoothly. When the boy tried to avoid some of the extra chores by suggesting an instalment plan or borrowing money from his father, Sue firmly rejected the idea. In a twist at the end of the post, Sue revealed that she and her husband had actually spoken to the friend's father beforehand, and he had agreed to accept RM200 instead of the full amount. Nevertheless, they insisted that their son personally call to apologise and discuss the repayment, as part of his learning process. Netizens praised Sue's method of instilling responsibility in her son, noting how many parents today often avoid taking accountability in similar situations. 'I really agree with this parenting approach. Scolding and punishing them every time doesn't work — they just become they cause trouble outside, they should be the ones to handle it,' one user shared.

The 42-second clip, shared to a Facebook group on Wednesday (June 25), showed the worker stirring spaghetti in a metal pot next to a pile of rubbish comprising plastic bags, cardboard and Styrofoam boxes. At one point, the worker was seen using his fingers to check if the spaghetti was cooked, prompting the netizen to label the practice 'extremely unhygienic' and announce plans to report it to the authorities. Following the public outcry, Kajang Municipal Council officers and health officials visited the restaurant but found the premises clean and compliant with health regulations. Councillor Dickson Tan Tee Guan told China Press the eatery scored 93 points (Grade A) in hygiene, with no cooking activity observed in the back alley during the inspection. Tan noted the staff were vaccinated against typhoid, wore hats and aprons, and had completed food handling courses, so no enforcement action was taken. Tokoh Maal Hijrah: Former Johor Chief Kadi Says Award Inspires Continued Islamic Preaching
JOHOR BAHRU, June 27 -- Johor Tokoh Maal Hijrah 1447H/2025M recipient, Anoar Sarimin, who is a former state chief kadi, said that the honour boosts his motivation to continue preaching and spreading Islamic teachings in the community. The 63-year-old father of four, from Kampung Parit Kassan, Tangkak, remains active in giving talks at any time and in any place. Since retiring in 2022, he has also served on the State Fatwa Committee. 'Alhamdulillah for this prestigious award. I express my gratitude to all parties, especially His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia and the government,' he said. 'I am very grateful to Allah and hope it inspires me to continue preaching daily to guide Muslims everywhere,' he told Bernama, at the Johor Maal Hijrah 1447H/2025M celebration at the Iskandar Islamic Centre. Also present was the State Islamic Affairs Committee chairman, Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid. Anoar served as Johor's chief kadi from 2018 to 2020, and later as deputy director of Operations at the state Islamic Religious Department, until 2022. He fondly recalled organising the 100th Anniversary of Johor Islamic Education in 2018, and the National Quran Recitation and Memorisation assembly in 1443H/2022M, as among his most memorable moments. Anoar urged Muslims to improve their lives, seek Allah's pleasure, and embrace the Prophet Muhammad's spirit of Hijrah and perseverance in spreading Islam. Earlier, Mohd Fared, in his speech, encouraged Muslims to bravely embrace change, and rise to the challenge of self-development.
