Alas Pilipinas vows to be better as FIVB Men's Championship nears, says Frigoni
The Philippines will hold the global championship from September 12 to 28.
'I don't know if we have enough time,' Frigoni said on the sidelines of the Alas Pilipinas Invitationals on Thursday. 'We will do our best to be good there.'
The men's national team is coming off an impressive run in the Invitationals as they swept all three teams: Jakarta Bhayangkara Presisi, Hyundai Capital Skywalkers of South Korea, and the Thailand national team.
"[In] the three matches, we had bad moments,' he said. 'But we didn't give up. We stayed there and we played, and that is what I like," Frigoni said.
In the men's championship, however, the world no. 59 Philippines will take on world no. 16 Iran, world no. 22 Egypt, and world no. 39 Tunisia in the preliminary round.
Frigoni also hopes the Filipino fans to cheer on the national team come the world championship.
"Please cheer for the Philippines because we need your help."

It took them a while, but finally, they can call themselves PBA champions. Last Friday, Juami Tiongson, Andreas Cahilig, Kris Rosales, and JM Calma relished their first title as the San Miguel Beermen defeated TNT in Game 6 of the PBA Philippine Cup finals. Tiongson, Cahilig, and Rosales have been in the PBA for quite a while. Tiongson was drafted in 2014, while Rosales made his PBA debut in 2016. Cahilig, meanwhile, entered the league in 2017. Although Cahilig was able to play in two games only because of his hyperextended knee, the Filipino-Swedish big man said he is now more motivated after winning his first title. Rhenz Abando back in KBL, reunites with Anyang Red Boosters
Rhenz Abando is reuniting with his old team Anyang Red Boosters as he is set to make a Korean Basketball League (KBL) return after more than a year. The Red Boosters announced Abando's comeback on Tuesday as the Filipino import looks to replicate his previous success with the team he once helped win a championship. ? Abando steered Anyang to the 2022-2023 title after they outlasted and dethroned Seoul SK in Game 7 of the finals. Before that, the former NCAA Rookie MVP also led the squad to a title in the East Asia Super League (EASL) Champions Week in March 2023. He, however, parted ways with the Korean club in May 2024 to end a two-year stint. Abando will rejoin Anyang just days after helping the Strong Group-Philippines defend its crown at the recently-concluded William Jones Cup in Taiwan. Skye Chua to represent PH in Asian Open Figure Skating Trophy 2025
Skye Chua is set to raise the Philippine flag at the 2025 Asian Open Figure Skating Trophy. Sparkle shared the exciting news on Instagram, announcing that the two-time national medalist, fresh from training in Osaka, Japan, will represent the country at the upcoming competition to be held from August 1 to 5 at the SM Skating Rink at the Mall of Asia. 'Competing on home ice, she not only carries the country's hopes but also inspires a new generation of Filipino skaters as the Philippines hosts this prestigious ISU-sanctioned event,' Sparkle said. Previously, the Sparkle actress participated at the 2025 FISU Winter World University Games in Turin, Italy where she also served as the Philippine flag bearer. A national figure skater, Skye also competed at the SEA Open Figure Skating Trophy in July 2024, where she placed third. As an actress, Skye most recently appeared in GMA Prime series "Pulang Araw" as Japanese character Yuki.
