Tributes pour in as Dancing With The Stars choreographer Dave Scott dies aged 52
Dave Scott, the choreographer in residence on season 8 of Dancing With The Stars, died at the age of 52 on Monday, his family has announced.
Born and raised in Compton, California, he had a dazzling career during which he also worked as a resident choreographer on So You Think You Can Dance. He also staged the dances for the movie Step Up 2: The Streets, directed by Jon M Chu.
His loved ones announced his death on his Instagram page on Tuesday, one day after it happened, but did not mention his cause of death.
They shared a picture of Scott with the words: 'It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved Dave Scott, who touched so many lives with his warmth, kindness and spirit.
'During this difficult time we are doing our best to honor his memory in the way he deserves with love, dignity and respect,' they added.
'In lieu of flowers, we ask for donations to contribute towards memorial arrangements and helping us celebrate Dave Scott's life in a meaningful way, with a celebration of life.'
They added in the caption: 'Today we have lost an icon, a legend, a father and a dear friend. The weight of this loss will send ripples through time. But his memory and legacy will continue to live on.
They touchingly wrote: 'We love you Dave Scott and everything you've accomplished and the joy and comfort you've brought to people will never be forgotten.'
The comments were flooded with tributes, including Dancing With The Stars pro Derek Hough, who posted praying and broken heart emojis.
Mariah Carey's ex Bryan Tanaka, who was one of her backing dancers for years before they started dating, wrote: 'You inspired so many including me. The power in your movement spoke so many things. I see you.'
Glee actor Kevin McHale added: 'Dave was like a big brother to so many of us. When I felt reallllly out of place amongst so many great performers, he always made me comfortable and confident. Watching him dance and teach was a gift.'
Another Glee star, Harry Shum Jr, said: 'This one hits hard.
'You gave me so much confidence as a performer and welcomed me with open arms to your dance world that many were inspired by. Thank you for spreading so much joy with your love of dance. May you rest in peace brother Dave.'
Scott was behind the dances in a variety of projects like the films You Got Served with Meagan Good and Made Of Honor with Patrick Dempsey, as well as TV shows ranging from So You Think You Can Dance to Bones.
Stomp The Yard, the 2007 dance drama starring Meagan Good, Chris Brown, Columbus Short, Ne-Yo and more, was also choreographed by Scott.
In addition to his work in movies and TV, Scott was a choreographer for musical artists like Tyrese, Brian McKnight, Ginuwine and Bow Wow.
He even staged a dance-off of Miley Cyrus and Mandy Jiroux versus the legendary Australian rock band ACDC at the Teen Choice Awards.
Debbie Allen, the star and choreographer of the TV series Fame, hired him as the head of the hip-hop intensive at her dance academy in Los Angeles.
His fascination with hip hop dance 'when I was 15 growing up in Compton,' he said during a 2008 interview with Dance magazine.
'Everybody was doing B-boy moves. It started off on my street. We took a bike ramp down, put cardboard down and started doing back stands and all of that kind of stuff.'
He recalled: 'I learned how to dance by watching TV, watching videos and stuff like that. My favorite was Michael Jackson. It was ridiculous. I watched all of his videos and redid the choreography and added on stuff.'
Scott noted that: 'I was always creative because I taught myself how to dance. So I always had the desire to create something and choreograph.'
He added: 'When I started dancing, I got a tour. Then I just started adding pieces of choreography to the tour. But, really, I have always been, from the time I started to dance, more of a creator a choreographer.'
Scott described his work as a 'triple reward because when I do my choreography, I always put myself in the audience and act like, "What can wow me?" And so I do the choreography, and then the reward is that you see what you created come to life.'
He added: "The second reward is, a lot of people choreograph, but they really don't dance. Third, I dance hard, like pretty much harder than the people I hire. To be a part of it, it's a good feeling.'

How Katy Perry hinted at Orlando Bloom split in heartbreaking song about BETRAYAL on new album
Fans of Katy Perry believe that the pop star may have hinted at her split with Orlando Bloom on her recent album, 143. While the majority of Katy's 143 is a celebration of love and womanhood, one dark track on the album called Truth stands out for its lyrics about the demise of a relationship. 'I wanna know the truth / Even if it hurts me,' Perry sings on the chorus. 'I got a vision keepin' me up at night / My intuition's tellin' me things ain't right,' she continued. 'Can't look in the mirror, what is it you're tryna hide? / Can't give me your password to your phone, not start a fight / You're treating me different, tell me what's going through your mind? 'You're acting so distant, who you see when you close your eyes?' Eventually the lyrics change tone in the song and Katy finds the strength to walk away from her painful relationship. 'I look in the mirror / See someone who's calm and strong / I've never been clearer / I'm at peace with moving on,' she sings through heavy autotune. 'I'm seein' it different / Now that I'm outside of the storm / I'm feeling the distance / It's always dark before the dawn.' Although the song received little attention when it was first released, fans are now revisiting it in the wake of the couple's reported split. 'Who's here after the breakup rumors?' one fan commented on YouTube. 'So is this song about Orlando?' asked another while a third commented, 'Did he do something? Cause even back then I did think this song is so odd to be in a full love album.' Perry and Bloom called it quits following weeks of escalating tension after nearly a decade of their on–off relationship, six years of being engaged and one child together. This comes just shortly after the 40-year-old pop star went to space, drawing significant backlash amid viral videos trolling her world tour and her poor-performing album 143. 'Katy and Orlando have split but are amicable,' a source told Us Weekly, adding that the break-up was so far 'not contentious.' 'Katy is of course upset but is relieved to not have to go through another divorce, as that was the worst time in her life,' they said. The source described the alleged split as 'a long time coming' and claimed their relations 'have been tense for months.' For now, Katy is reportedly staying 'distracted' with her tour and caring for her and Orlando's four-year-old daughter Daisy, who was seen joining her while the 48-year-old English actor was elsewhere. However, the Lord Of The Rings star later returned to Australia — where Katy has spent the month of June on tour — and reunited with his fiancée and daughter over the past week. Despite once again being on the same continent as her fiancé, Katy has been spotted multiple times without her wedding ring in Australia. Katy released 143 last September to disappointing results on the charts and scathing reviews from critics. Album 143 - which references the expression 'I love you', but is also what Katy considers to be her symbolic 'angel number' - was her first album in four years, following Smile in 2020. The album missed the top five on the charts and failed to yield any hit singles. Lead single Woman's World peaked at No. 63 before disappearing, while follow up tracks Lifetimes and I'm His, He's Mine missed the charts entirely.

'F1' opens with $55 million, delivering Apple its biggest big-screen hit
Apple has its first box-office hit. 'F1 The Movie' debuted with $55.6 million in North American theaters and $144 million globally over the weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday, handing the tech company easily its biggest opening yet. Though Apple Original Films has had some notable successes in its six years in Hollywood — including the 2021 Oscar-winner 'CODA' — its theatrical results have been decidedly mixed. Misfires like 'Argylle' and 'Fly Me to the Moon' and big-budget awards plays like Ridley Scott's 'Napoleon' and Martin Scorsese's 'Killers of the Flower Moon' have been better at driving viewers to Apple TV+ than movie theaters. But 'F1' was Apple's first foray into summer blockbuster territory. It won a bidding war for the project from much of the production team behind the 2022 box-office smash 'Top Gun: Maverick.' Apple then partnered with Warner Bros. to distributed the film starring Brad Pitt, Damson Idris and Kerry Condon. With a production budget over $200 million, 'F1' still has several laps to go to turn a profit. But for now, 'F1' is full speed ahead. ''F1 The Movie' puts the pedal to the metal in an impressive overperformance for this original summer movie that had one of the most comprehensive and exciting marketing blitzes in recent memory and it paid off big for the film,' said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for data firm Comscore. Car racing movies have often struggled in theaters; crash-and-burn cases include Ron Howard's 'Rush' (2013) and Michael Mann's 'Ferrari' (2023). But 'F1' built off of the Formula 1 fandom stirred up by the popular series 'Formula 1: Drive to Survive.' And it leaned on 'Top Gun: Maverick' director Joseph Kosinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer to deliver another adult-oriented action thrill ride. Like they did in 'Top Gun: Maverick,' the filmmakers sought an adrenaline rush by placing IMAX cameras inside the cockpit in 'F1.' IMAX and large-format screens accounted for 55% of in its ticket sales. IMAX, whose screens are much sought-after in the summer, has carved out a three-week run for the movie. Reviews have been very good for 'F1' and audience reaction (an 'A' via CinemaScore) was even better. That suggests 'F1' could hold up well in the coming weeks despite some formidable coming competition in Universal Pictures' 'Jurassic World Rebirth.' Universal's 'M3gan 2.0' had been expected to pose a greater challenge to 'F1.' Instead, the robot doll sequel didn't come close to matching the 2022 original's box-office launch. 'M3gan 2.0' collected $10.2 million in 3,112 theaters. Memes and viral videos helped propel the first 'M3gan' to a $30.4 million opening and a total haul of $180 million, all on a $12 million budget. Still, the Blumhouse Productions horror thriller could wind up profitable. The film, written and directed by Gerald Johnstone, cost a modest $25 million to make. A spinoff titled 'Soulm8te' is scheduled for release next year. M3gan 2.0' ended up in fourth place. The box-office leader of the last two weekends, 'How to Train Your Dragon,' slid to second with $19.4 million. The DreamWorks Animation live-action hit from Universal Pictures has surpassed $200 million domestically in three weeks. After a debut that marked a new low for Pixar, the studio's 'Elio' gathered up $10.7 million in sales in its second weekend. That gives the Walt Disney Co. release a disappointing two-week start of $42.2 million. Top 10 movies by domestic box office With final domestic figures being released Monday, this list factors in the estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Comscore: 1. 'F1 The Movie,' $55 million. 2. 'How to Train Your Dragon,' $19.4 million. 3. 'Elio,' $10.7 million. 4. 'M3gan 2.0,' $10.2 million. 5. '28 Years Later,' $9.7 million. 6. 'Lilo & Stitch,' $6.9 million. 7. 'Mission: Impossible — Final Reckoning,' $4.2 million. 8. 'Materialists,' $3 million. 9. 'Ballerina,' $2.1 million. 10. 'Karate Kid: Legends,' $1 million.

Krispy Kreme will conclude its celebration on the holiday by giving out free glazed donuts to customers who wear red, white and blue at participating shops. The donut empire's latest collection comes after the chain and McDonald's announced their plan to terminate their partnership on July 2. A few commenters highly praised the chain's 'amazing' freedom donuts, which are glazed treats dipped in white icing, blue sprinkles, and white stars. The chain finished off the first of its American-filled masterpieces with red icing stripes. Customers also spoke highly of USA Party, a glazed donut with white buttercreme topped with a USA party sprinkle blend and sugar piece. The collection's third and final product was made for fans looking to try an unglazed donut with vanilla cookies & Kreme filling dipped in white icing. The chain topped the donut off with vanilla cookies, patriotic sprinkles, and a white icing drizzle. Besides its 4th of July collection, Krispy Kreme is offering its customers a box of a dozen glazed donuts for only $12. This deal is only available for a limited time and will end by closing time today at participating stores. Although most customers were thrilled about the latest additions, some of them slammed Krispy Kreme for removing or not adding glazed donuts to McDonald's locations. Krispy Kreme made headlines after announcing its partnership with McDonald's will be terminated Krispy Kreme and McDonald's partnership made headlines after they began the collaboration in 2022. The chains started out slowly by testing the donut sales at 9 McDonald's restaurants in Kentucky. The idea expanded to other stores nationwide, and by 2024, the companies had planned to offer Krispy Kreme donuts in all US locations by next year. Plans changed once McDonald's US sales fell 3.6 percent and Krispy Kreme's organic revenue dropped by 1 percent. Donuts were being offered in over 2,400 McDonald's restaurants when the companies decided to pause the partnership last month before pulling the plug this week. The chains announced the termination only a couple of weeks after Krispy Kreme sold its remaining ownership stake in Insomnia Cookies. The company earned $75 million from the sale, and is planning on using the money to pay off debt, which currently sits at around $1 billion.
