
Man rushed to hospital after arson attack at Dublin restaurant
Gardai have launched an investigation after an arson attack at a Dublin restaurant left a man hospitalised.
Authorities were alerted to an incident of criminal damage by fire that occurred late on Friday night, July 4, at a restaurant on Frederick Street North in Dublin at around 11:30pm.
One man, aged in his 50s, was brought to hospital as a precaution following the incident, which took place at a Somalian cafe and takeaway.
It is understood that there is no indication at this time of a petrol bomb being used.
Gardai confirmed that investigations are ongoing following the incident.
A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: "Gardai are investigating an incident of criminal damage by fire that occurred at a premises on Frederick Street North, Dublin 1 shortly after 11:30pm on Friday, 4 July 2025.
"A male, aged in his 50s, was brought to hospital by Gardai as a precaution.
"Investigations are ongoing."

Woman arrested in probe into attempted murder of young Donegal man Charles Dooher
Charles Dooher (26) was assaulted at his home on the Conneyburrow Road, Lifford, on Monday, January 20, at around 10am. Gardaí have confirmed a woman has been arrested in connection with the investigation. The woman, aged in her 50s, was arrested on Sunday, July 6, 2025 and was questioned by gardaí. A Garda spokesperson said: 'Gardaí arrested a woman in connection with the investigation into an attempted murder in Lifford, Co Donegal, on 20th January, 2025. 'The woman, aged in her 50s, was arrested on Sunday, 6th July, 2025 and detained at a Garda Station in the North West under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007. "She has since been released and a file will be prepared for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. 'Investigations are ongoing.' Charles Dooher was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast and he was treated in intensive care, fighting for his life. His family and friends maintained a bedside vigil for the young farmer while he was in hospital. Charles has since undergone surgery and has had a protective plate fitted to his head. Charles' father, Charles Dooher senior, who is aged in his 60s, was also injured in the attack and received treatment for less serious injuries at Letterkenny University Hospital. Earlier this year, the PSNI arrested two adult males in connection with the investigation but they were subsequently released with enquiries ongoing. Gardaí continue to appeal to the public for any information or witnesses related to this incident. Those with camera footage, including dash-cam footage, from the Coneyburrow Road in Lifford between 10am and 11am are urged to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí. Man, 60s, arrested on suspicion of attempted murder of young Donegal farmer
A 60 year old man has been arrested in Derry this afternoon on suspicion of the attempted murder of Lifford man Charles Dooher. The man was arrested by the PSNI and remains in custody. A PSNI spokesperson confirmed "Detectives assisting colleagues from An Garda Síochána with the investigation into the attempted murder of a man in Lifford, Country Donegal, have made an arrest. "A 60-year-old man was arrested in the Derry area this afternoon, Friday 11th July, on suspicion of the attempted murder of a man aged in his 20s on Monday, 20th January. "He remains in custody at this time." It follows the arrest of a woman by Gardai earlier this week. The woman in her 50s was arrested earlier this week and released yesterday after being questioned at a Garda station in West Donegal. A file on the arrest is to be compiled and sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions. Man arrested in Monaghan as part of global operation targeting human trafficking
A man arrested in Monaghan in early June has been remanded in custody as part of a global operation targeting human trafficking for the purposes of sexual exploitation and forced criminality. The man in his 50s was detained on June 9th at Monaghan Garda station and subsequently charged for Human Trafficking Contrary to Section 4(1) of the Criminal law (Human Trafficking) Act 2008. The man appeared before Monaghan District Court on Wednesday, June 11th where he was remanded in custody and a file is being compiled for the Director of Public Prosecutions . His arrest was carried out as part of Operation Global Chain, an international initiative conducted on June 1st-6th 2025, during which law enforcement partners worldwide, including An Garda Síochána , targeted organised crime groups involved in human trafficking, in particular child trafficking, for financial gain. READ MORE The operation focused on human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation, forced criminality and forced begging. Over the week in early June, gardaí visited 92 suspected brothels in towns and cities across Ireland. They interviewed 179 sex workers with nationalities from Brazil, Romania, Spain, China, Dominican Republic, Poland, Latvia, Colombia, Taiwan, Panama, Czech Republic, Malaysia and Ireland. No victims of human trafficking were detected during the visits. Gardaí also inspected more than 5,400 passengers arriving into Dublin Airport on flights on Thursday, June 5th, and Friday, June 6th. Members of the Human Trafficking Investigation and Coordination Unit and the Organised Prostitution Investigation Unit were present during these inspections, according to a Garda statement. An Garda Síochána will continue to work closely with Europol and other law enforcement partners to identify victims of human trafficking and also appealed to any potential victims to come forward and speak to them. Any person with information on human trafficking should also contact gardaí and all contact will be treated 'in the utmost confidence', said the statement.
