Actor who plays Jesus on TV's 'The Chosen' visits the Vatican
Jonathan Roumie, star of the streaming series "The Chosen" about the life of Jesus Christ, spoke at an event ahead of a special Vatican screening of an episode from the fifth season of the show, which will release internationally in July.
Roumie was joined by fellow cast members Elizabeth Tabish, George Xanthis, and Vanessa Benavente, who respectively play Mary Magdalene, St. John the Apostle, and Mary, the Mother of God.
"Coming to the Vatican is always an honour," Roumie, a practicing Christian, told Reuters. "The possibility of getting to meet the newest pontiff is extraordinary."
"The Chosen" is a historical drama that follows the life of Jesus Christ – from gathering disciples to his ultimate persecution at the hands of the Roman empire.
Season 5 includes Jesus's last supper with his disciples and many of the renowned biblical events just before his death.
The cast came to the Vatican a day after wrapping up three weeks of shooting for the sixth season of the show which will portray the crucifixion, an episode filmed in the southern Italian town of Matera.
One of the world's oldest continuous human settlements, with stone houses cut from surrounding cliffs, some of which have been occupied for millennia, Matera stood in for Jerusalem.
U.S. filmmaker Mel Gibson also used the Italian town for his 2004 movie about the crucifixion, The Passion of the Christ.
Roumie and the other cast members are set to meet Leo, the first U.S. pontiff, during the pope's general audience in St. Peter's Square on Wednesday.

'Chromaticism is a rare and exotic bloom in Western music,' writes Exaudi's director James Weeks in his wonderfully comprehensive essay in his group's disc of late 16th-century choral works. Yet the writhing, convoluted lines of these pieces, negotiated with exemplary precision and clarity by the seven singers of Exaudi, their voices perfectly matched and balanced, carry their own expressive power. This is a disc that becomes more fascinating and involving the more you listen to it.

SERIE A side Genoa had a nightmare when released their new away kit without noticing one of the kit models' very explicit tattoo. The launch included a video filmed in London, as well as a series of promotional images featuring models posing in the new kit. The tattoo, spotted by keen-eyed fans on one of the models' left leg in one of the promotional images, appears to feature two people engaged in a sex act. The image was quickly deleted by the club when fans started talking about the unfortunate oversight. One account re-posted the image on X with the caption "Interesting leg tattoo, that", garnering over 30,000 likes. Another asked: "How did the media team not catch that?" The kit itself is predominantly white and red and is based on the St George's Cross and its historic symbolism with the club. The cross is a symbol of the city of Genoa, and appears both on the city's coat of arms and Genoa CFC's club badge. The launch video, filmed in London, celebrates the English roots of the side, which is the oldest football club in Italy. Jessica's bottom implants had to be removed immediately, causing her anguish and feeling fearful because she will be forced to have yet more surgery.
