'Illegal electricity connection' found on street as 10 homes forced to have power cut
Network operator Electricity North West said its workers came across the illegal piece of work while attending to an unrelated power cut at a home in Thorns Close on Saturday.
Work took place on Monday to combat the illegal connection, meaning power was cut from 10 homes on the road, before being restored in the evening.
One resident from the street said: "We came back from holiday to find we had no power.

"We were given a generator, but, I mean, try getting to sleep at night when that thing is turned on."
An Electricity North West spokesperson said: 'On Saturday evening at 6.50pm, we were notified of a power cut affecting one property on Thorns Close and power was restored later that evening.
'During repair work, an unrelated illegal connection was discovered in the area.
"Supplies were removed from 10 properties while work took place on Monday and power was restored that evening.'
Greater Manchester Police has been contacted for comment about the incident.

I'd do it all again, says suspect accused of punching police officer six times
A man accused of assaulting a police officer at Manchester Airport said there was nothing he would change about his behaviour. Muhammad Amaad, 26, is alleged to have used a 'high level of violence' against Pc Zachary Marsden after he and two female colleagues tried to arrest his brother, Mohammed Fahir Amaaz. The Greater Manchester Police officers entered the Terminal 2 car park pay station after reports that a man fitting Mr Amaaz's description had headbutted a member of the public inside the airport just minutes before on July 23 last year. Credit: CPS Under cross-examination on Tuesday, Mr Amaad denied that his use of force was unlawful or offensive, as he said he sought to defend himself and his brother, as he believed they were 'under attack'. Prosecutors say Mr Amaad took hold of Pc Marsden's right arm as the officer restrained Mr Amaaz, 20, and then grabbed Pc Marsden by the throat and neck. The Crown says he went on to push the officer back and down on to a nearby seated area before he punched him six times. Cross-examining on Tuesday, junior counsel Adam Birkby said: 'The prosecution's case is that during the incident at the pay station your use of force was offensive. It was not defensive. Do you agree or disagree?' Mr Amaad said: 'I disagree.' Mr Birkby said: 'And that level of force, in particular the six punches, was unreasonable.' 'No, I disagree,' said the defendant. Mr Birkby said: 'And your use of force was unlawful.' Mr Amaad said: ' I disagree.' Mr Birkby said: 'On reflection ... is there anything about your behaviour that you would change?' 'No,' said Mr Amaad. Mr Amaad has told the jury that he initially sought to defend his younger brother, who he thought was being choked by Pc Marsden. He said he then acted in self-defence to free himself from the grip of Pc Marsden, who he said punched him first. His barrister Chloe Gardner asked: 'Did you believe you was under attack?' Greater Manchester street mourns the loss of "local boy" following e-bike crash
Members of a community have expressed their shock following the death of a 15-year-old boy in a tragic crash involving an e-bike. Police were called to reports of the collision on Rowrah Crescent in Middleton at around 11:55am on Tuesday (July 22). Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the boy was pronounced dead at the scene. His family are being supported by officers, say GMP. A 59-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and and remains in custody for questioning. Another 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of theft as part of the investigation. Detectives, PCSOs and CSI officers were spotted carrying out their work on the street. Some residents stop and stare, understandably curious for any update, however, a majority of neighbours opted to stay inside. One neighbour who knew the boy and his family well said: "This involves the family of my friend. When something like this happens you just try to keep out of the way because it's a sad thing." Another resident added: "There was a big commotion, I was inside when it happened but when I came out loads of people and police were on the street. "I didn't know what happened at first, but they said a young boy has lost his life. I knew the boy, he was local to the area and very well known. It's such a sad situation." Another resident who said they knew of the teenager told the M.E.N: "He was a top, top lad. Lived on this estate all his life and a lot of people knew him. "He was very respectable, obviously it's a horrible thing to happen to him and his family." Officers are working to establish the full circumstances of the incident and are investigating allegations of a theft in the events leading up to the collision. Detective Chief Inspector Christopher Dean, from GMP's Rochdale district, said: 'This terrible incident has seen the death of a teenage boy, and we are working hard to establish the full facts of this case, in what is the very early stages of an investigation. 'A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and will be questioned in due course, while officers are already in place to support the family of the boy who has died today. "I want to remind people that at the heart of this is a grieving family, and I would ask the community to not speculate on social media while we piece together the events of earlier today. 'As our work progresses, I would ask anyone with information to please come forward – whether you witnessed anything or have any dashcam, CCTV, or doorbell footage from the area.'
