FIFA U-17 World Cup will inspire new generation of players: Almoez
Almoez Ali, Qatar's top scorer of all time, having netted 60 goals in 123 caps is a graduate of the renowned Aspire Academy, a cornerstone of the Aspire Zone, where the tournament will be played. Ali was part of Qatar's U-20 team, made up entirely of Aspire Academy graduates, which lifted the Asian championship in 2014. Since then, Ali has also guided Qatar's senior national team to two back-to-back AFC Asian Cups in 2019 and 2023.
'The FIFA U-17 World Cup taking place at Aspire Zone will be a huge motivation for this next generation of players. They will all be looking to perform their best on the pitch. I'm sure they know how important this experience will be for their future,' said Ali.
Since opening its doors in 2004, Aspire Academy has produced world and Olympic champions across multiple disciplines, including track and field athlete Mutaz Barsham, regarded as one of the best high jumpers of all time. For Ali, hosting the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025 at the iconic venue will be a fitting tribute to the exemplary work done by the Academy in shaping Qatar's sports landscape.
'Being a part of the Aspire Academy as a young player and student in an environment that seamlessly merged academics with football really encouraged me to pursue the sport full time. We played against the best teams from Europe, Africa and South America. Competing against that type of pedigree was really important to us,' added Ali.
Hosts Qatar have been drawn into Group A alongside Italy, South Africa and Bolivia. The young Maroons will kick off their campaign against Italy on 3 November. The team will look to improve on Qatar's highest achievement in the competition, when they finished in fourth place in 1991.
'For young players taking part in a competition with the magnitude of the World Cup, this will be a reminder of how hard work can enable you to play on the biggest stage, in the biggest tournaments. I am sure that this tournament will have huge benefit on the players, and that they will cherish the experience and learn and grow from it,' said Ali.
A total of eight pitches from the Competition Complex at Aspire, built to the highest international standards, will host a total of 104 matches. Eight matches a day will be played during the group stage. Fans will also be able to enjoy several cultural activations in a vibrant fan zone that will be set up within Aspire Zone. The venue is connected seamlessly by public transport and will offer a barrier-free experience to disabled fans.
Qatar is one of six Arab teams that have qualified to the tournament. They are joined by Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco. The best achievement historically by any Arab country in the competition was in 1989 when Saudi Arabia claimed the title.

Qatar national basketball team roster for FIBA Asia Cup 2025 announced
Tribune News Network Doha The Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) has unveiled the official roster for the Qatar National Basketball Team, set to compete in the 31st edition of the FIBA Asia Cup 2025, scheduled to take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from August 5 to 17, 2025. Following the tournament draw, Qatar has been placed in the highly competitive Group A alongside Australia, South Korea, and Lebanon. Qatar team will open their campaign against South Korea on August 6, followed by matches against Lebanon on August 8 and Australia on August 10. Other groups in the tournament are as follows: Group B includes Japan, Iran, Syria, and Guam; Group C comprises China, Jordan, India, and Saudi Arabia; and Group D features the Philippines, New Zealand, Iraq, and Chinese Taipei. The tournament follows a group-stage format, with the top team from each group advancing directly to the quarterfinals. Teams finishing second and third in their groups will compete in crossover knockout matches to determine the remaining quarter-finalists.

Asian Jr Bowling Championship Qatar 2025 concludes
QNA Doha The 24th Asian Junior Bowling Championship Qatar 2025 concluded on Satuday at the Qatar National Bowling Center. The championship was organized by the Qatar Bowling Federation in cooperation with the Asian Bowling Federation. Malaysian Muhammad Aqeel won the gold medal in the men's masters competition, while Kuwaiti Nasser Al Kandari claimed the silver medal. Hong Kong's Dylan Lam took bronze. The competition saw the participation of three Qatari players: Talal Al Marri, who came in fifth place; Abdulrahman Al Dosari, who came in seventh; and Musaed Al Marikhi, who came in eighth. The Qatari bowling team won four medals in the tournament, including a gold and silver medal in the doubles competition, a silver medal in the overall team ranking, and a bronze medal in the four-person team ranking. On the girls' side, Malaysian Karaul Ain Puti won the gold medal in the women's masters competition, beating her compatriot Adliya Noor Syazli in the final, who won the silver medal. Chinese Taipei's Hsin-Tsin Huang won the bronze medal. The Kuwaiti team also won three gold medals overall and two silvers in the masters and team events. We congratulate them and all the winners of this distinguished Asian edition.' For his part, Abdullah Sultan Al Qattan, President of the Qatar Bowling Association, said that the success achieved during the tournament reflects the great efforts made by the organizing committee to present this Asian edition in such a distinguished manner. 'We are pleased with what was achieved during the tournament, and we are satisfied with the hosting and organization in light of the continuous praise from all the delegations that participated in this continental tournament. We consider this distinction a confirmation of the value and leading position of Qatar in the organization,' he said. Sheikh Joaan confirmed as sole candidate for presidency of Olympic Council of Asia
Doha The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has confirmed the nomination of HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani as the sole candidate for the position of President of the OCA. The Olympic Council of Asia received only one nomination by the official deadline of 31 July 2025 at 5 PM Kuwait time. The candidature of Sheikh Joaan reflects widespread regional support and consensus across the Asian sporting community. Sheikh Joaan currently serves as President of the QOC and Senior Vice President of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC). He has played a central role in strengthening Qatar's global sporting profile and advancing cooperation within the international Olympic Movement. His leadership has focused on athlete development, institutional excellence, and regional inclusion. The nomination process follows the announcement that the current President of the OCA, Raja Randhir Singh of India will not finish his term due to health considerations. The election will take place on 26 January 2026 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The QOC considers the unified support for Sheikh Joaan's candidature as a clear reflection of shared aspirations across Asia.
