Marcus Rashford returns to Man Utd after Aston Villa decline option to buy

Rhyl Journala day ago
The 27-year-old scored four goals in 17 appearances during his time at Villa Park but the club have decided not to activate the £40million option to buy him, meaning he will now go back to Old Trafford.
Rashford will depart the club alongside Marco Asensio and Axel Disasi, who also joined Unai Emery's side on loan in February and helped them to the quarter-finals of the Champions League as well as an FA Cup semi-final while qualifying for the Europa League next season.
Rashford fell out of favour in Manchester under Ruben Amorim but it remains to be seen where his future lies, with the forward reportedly keen on a move to Barcelona.
Asensio scored vital goals both domestically and in Europe, including three in the two legs of the Champions League win over Club Brugge, but Villa also confirmed he will go back to Paris St Germain. Disasi made 10 appearances after his temporary move from Chelsea.
Goalkeeper Robin Olsen and Kortney Hause will also leave the club following the expiry of their respective contracts.
Aston Villa would like to thank Robin Olsen and Kortney Hause following the expiration of their contracts, as well as our loan players as they return to their respective parent clubs.

'Marco Asensio, Marcus Rashford and Axel Disasi each joined Villa in February on loan deals until the end of the 2024-25 season.
'Everyone at Aston Villa would like to thank each of the players for their efforts and amazing commitment to the club and wish them all the very best for the future.'

Arsenal sign Chloe Kelly on permanent basis after successful loan spell

The Gunners have confirmed that the 27-year-old, who is currently on Euro 2025 duty with the Lionesses, has returned to the club at which she spent eight years earlier in her career 'subject to the completion of regulatory processes' following the expiration of her deal at Manchester City. Kelly, who the PA news agency understands has agreed a three-year deal, made 13 appearances under head coach Renee Slegers last season after joining on loan in January and picked up a Champions League winners' medal after victory over Barcelona in Lisbon. Good things come to those who wait. CK is officially here to stay 🏡 — Arsenal Women (@ArsenalWFC) July 2, 2025 Kelly said: 'Putting pen to paper on a permanent contract at Arsenal is a standout moment for me. Learning from an incredible manager and continuing to build relationships with an excellent team is a journey I'm looking forward to continuing. 'I'm excited for more silverware at this special club and to bring more trophies back to north London to celebrate with our supporters. 'I've always said that Arsenal supporters are the best and to have them on my side singing my name means so much to me.' Slegers said: 'I'm delighted that we've been able to make Chloe a permanent signing for us. She had a great impact for us and played an important role in what we achieved here last season, and I know she shares our ambition to compete for more.' Kelly joined Arsenal's academy as a 12-year-old and made 19 senior appearances before leaving for Everton, where she had two loan spells, in 2018. But it was at Manchester City that she rose to prominence, scoring 30 goals in 109 appearances and winning the FA and League Cups. She has 53 England caps and eight international goals to her name, famously including the winner in the Euro 2022 final.

Arsenal face Eberechi Eze dilemma as Crystal Palace take transfer stand

Arsenal are in the market for a number of attacking players and Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze has now emerged as a serious summer transfer target for Mikel Arteta and Co Crystal Palace will not consider selling Eberechi Eze for a sum lower than the £68million release clause in the player's contract, amid interest in the midfielder from Arsenal. The Gunners are in the market for quality attackers ahead of the new season and have identified Eze, 27, as a serious target. But with Arsenal also looking at big-money deals for Viktor Gyokeres and Rodrygo among others, it remains to be seen if they could finance a deal for Eze, too. ‌ Eze is known to have a release clause in his contract, which still has two years left to run at Selhurst Park. But while reports elsewhere have indicated that Arsenal may attempt to sign Eze for less than £68m, Crystal Palace will not entertain any lower offers. ‌ The FA Cup winners value Eze at the amount his release clause stands at and, as such, will resist offers that fall short of that sum. Interestingly, the clause dictates that the £68m needs to be paid in three instalments - one third up front, another third next summer and the final payment in 2027. There have been suggestions that Arsenal are eager to finance the deal over a longer period to land a player who was on their books as a teenager. The Gunners are understood to have offered Real Sociedad slightly more than the specified release clause for their playmaker, Martin Zubimendi, in order to pay for the Spaniard in instalments rather than one lump sum. But Palace want fees paid for England ace Eze as per his contract. Eze has also attracted interest from Arsenal's arch-rivals, Tottenham, following a stellar 2024-25 campaign which culminated in him scoring the winning goal in the FA Cup final for the Eagles. Arsenal are also said to be in advanced talks with Sporting Lisbon over a deal for Gyokeres, while they have their sights set on signing Rodrygo from Real Madrid. ‌ Both of those prospective deals would command significant transfer fees in addition to the sum they have paid to extract Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, which is in excess of £50m. Outgoings could help finance those deals plus a swoop for Eze, who is also capable of playing wide on the left and could emerge as an alternative option there if a move for Rodrygo fails to materialise before the end of next month. Fabio Vieira is among a number of surplus players who could be sold after returning to the club following a loan spell with his old team, FC Porto.
