"A Walk To Remember" Reboot in Works
Yara Sameh
Monarch Media has acquired the rights to "A Walk to Remember", the seminal early aughts coming-of-age romance from Nicholas Sparks, with plans to develop a reboot alongside the original film's producers Denise Di Novi and Hunt Lowry.
An enduringly popular bestseller published in 1999, "A Walk to Remember" follows a rebellious high school senior who falls for a quiet, faith-driven girl after being forced to participate in a school play, discovering the transformative power of love, forgiveness and the beauty of living each day with purpose.
Famously, Shane West and Mandy Moore broke out with their turns in the original 2002 film adaptation from Warner Bros.
While the Adam Shankman film made less than $48 million in theaters, it remains one of the most popular titles in the modern rom-com canon to this day.
The full producing team on the reboot will include Steve Barnett, Alan Powell and Vicky Patel for Monarch Media, Di Novi and Margaret French-Isaac for Di Novi Pictures, and Lowry and Patty Reed for Roserock Films.
''A Walk to Remember' has endured as a beloved coming-of-age drama, captivating audiences with its heartfelt story of young love, personal growth and the power of faith for decades,' Barnett said. 'We could not be more excited to bring a new version of Nicholas Sparks' timeless story to audiences and are particularly thrilled to work alongside the original film's producers, Denise and Hunt.'
Also currently prepping a sequel to "Practical Magic", Di Novi said, 'I am so grateful to Steve and Monarch Media for giving all of us the opportunity to bring this enduring and inspirational story of faith, hope and love to a new generation, all qualities we need now more than ever.'
'I'm delighted to be bringing this timeless story to a new generation of moviegoers, and it's great to be working with Denise again and the Monarch team,' said Lowry, who also produced "What a Girl Wants" alongside Di Novi.
One of the world's most beloved storytellers, Sparks has made the New York Times bestseller list with each of his books, with over 130 million copies sold worldwide, in more than 50 languages, including over 92 million copies in the U.S. alone.
While numerous films based on his work have been mounted, the other most famous title would have to be "The Notebook", the romance adapted into the 2004 film starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams.
Sparks' latest novel, "Counting Miracles", debuted last fall and is being adapted for film by Amazon. Up next for the author is a supernatural romantic thriller based on an original story co-created with M. Night Shyamalan.
He and Shyamalan are independently writing a screenplay and a novel, respectively, based on the same original love story, with Jake Gyllenhaal on board to star in the film.
Monarch Media is known for producing the acclaimed Richard Linklater film Hit Man, starring Glen Powell, and the action thriller "Valiant One", starring Chase Stokes. Currently, the company is in production on "Tangles", an animated feature starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Bryan Cranston, Abbi Jacobson and Seth Rogen.
They also recently attached writer Michael Notarile to dark cannabis con comedy, "Bune".

Johnny Depp Says He Was a "Crash Test Dummy for #MeToo" and Has 'No Regrets' Facing Off Amber Heard in Court
Yara Sameh Johnny Depp said he was 'crash test dummy for #MeToo' in a new interview with The Sunday Times as he sets out to promote the U.K. theatrical release of his latest directorial effort, 'Modi: Three Days on the Wing of Madness.' Depp was referring to the allegations first leveled at him in 2016 by ex-wife Amber Heard, who accused him of domestic violence when she filed for divorce. Heard's allegations notably fed into two trials that garnered global attention. Depp brought a libel lawsuit against The Sun in 2018 after the publication referred to him as a 'wife beater.' The trial kicked off in summer 2020 and ended with the court determining that the characterization of Depp as a 'wife beater' was 'substantially true.' Later in the year, Depp exited Warner Bros.' 'Fantastic Beasts' franchise after saying the studio asked him to resign from the role in the aftermath of the trial. A second and even more highly-publicized trial took place in the U.S. in 2022 after Depp sued Heard in 2019 for defamation over an op-ed she wrote in The Washington Post in which she referred to herself as 'a figure representing domestic abuse.' The 2022 trial was live-streamed on YouTube and became an online sensation. The jury ultimately ruled that Heard did defame Depp in the op-ed, while also ruling Depp defamed Heard in the course of fighting back against her charges. Throughout the trial, shocking details about Depp and Heard's personal lives were revealed. 'Look, it had gone far enough,' Depp reflected on the viral 2022 trial. 'I knew I'd have to semi-eviscerate myself. Everyone was saying, 'It'll go away!' But I can't trust that. What will go away? The fiction pawned around the fucking globe? No it won't. If I don't try to represent the truth it will be like I've actually committed the acts I am accused of. And my kids will have to live with it. Their kids. Kids that I've met in hospitals. So the night before the trial in Virginia I didn't feel nervous. If you don't have to memorize lines, if you're just speaking the truth? Roll the dice.' Depp said he survived 'all the hit pieces, the bullshit' that accompanied the trial, adding: 'Look, none of this was going be easy, but I didn't care. I thought, 'I'll fight until the bitter fucking end.' And if I end up pumping gas? That's all right. I've done that before.' A few years after the end of the U.S. trial, Depp is now getting the chance to come back to Hollywood by starring opposite 'Blow' co-star Penelope Cruz in the Lionsgate action comedy 'Day Drinker.' He told the Times about his life: 'I have no regrets about anything — because, truly, what can we do about last week's dinner? Not a fucking thing.' 'Day Drinker' is scheduled to release in theaters sometime in 2026. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean
