Report: Sun Belt approves move to lure Louisiana Tech from Conference USA
The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the Sun Belt has not announced the membership offer, and Louisiana Tech has not announced its decision to accept it and leave Conference USA.
The person said it is not clear how soon the Bulldogs will join the Sun Belt, but that it could be as early as the 2026 football season if the university is able to negotiate a departure from Conference USA at the end of the 2025-26 academic year.
Another person familiar with the situation said Louisiana Tech had notified Conference USA Commissioner Judy MacLeod of its intent to move to the Sun Belt. That person spoke on condition of anonymity because MacLeod had not yet commented publicly on the matter.
The Sun Belt has been exploring the possibility of adding a team since Texas State announced in late June that it would be leaving for the Pac-12.
The addition of Louisiana Tech would restore Sun Belt football to a 14-team league and also place Tech in same league as several current, former or new regional rivals, including Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana-Lafayette, Southern Mississippi, and South Alabama.

Meanwhile, Louisiana Tech's move would mark the 10th departure from Conference USA since 2022 — a list that includes Southern Mississippi, Texas-San Antonio, Charlotte, Old Dominion, Rice, North Texas, Marshall, Florida Atlantic and Alabama-Birmingham leaving the league.
Of those, Southern Miss, Old Dominion and Marshall also moved to the Sun Belt.
Louisiana Tech, was part of the Sun Belt as a non-football member from 1991-2001. The Bulldogs were an independent Football Bowl Subdivision program before all of its teams joined the WAC in 2002.
Louisiana Tech moved to Conference USA in 2013.

The calendar is just days away from reading 'August,' which means it's time for final preparation before the 2025 college football season. One notable milestone in that preparation is Big Ten media days, which are currently taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada. Wisconsin coach Luke Fickell and player representatives quarterback Billy Edwards Jr., cornerback Ricardo Hallman and center Jake Renfro all spoke on Wednesday. Report: Pacers to sign No. 54 pick Taelon Peter to two-way contract
Former Liberty guard Taelon Peter, the 54th pick in the 2025 NBA draft, will reportedly sign a two-way contract with the Indiana Pacers, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. Peter was the Conference USA Sixth Man of the Year last season, averaging 13.7 points, four rebounds and one assist on 45.3% shooting from 3-point range. He led the country in true shooting percentage (72.4) and was 19th in player efficiency rating (27.2). The 23-year-old, who played three years at Arkansas Tech (Division II), became the third player in program history selected in the draft and the first since Cliff Webber in 1985. He is the first player from Conference USA to be drafted since Charles Bassey in 2021. Peter debuted with the Pacers in the NBA Summer League, averaging 9.5 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists on 57.1% shooting from the field in four appearances. He produced a summer league-high 15 points on July 12 in a loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. The 6-foot-4 standout will split his time next season between the NBA and the Noblesville Boom in the G League. He is eligible to be active for up to 50 games in the NBA and will earn $636,435, which is equal to 50% of the minimum salary applicable to a player with zero years of service. Peter had a monumental rise to establish himself as a second-round after failing to earn invitations to the draft combine or G League Elite Camp. He will now have the chance to begin his career with the Pacers and develop within their system.
