ZURICH:
Logitech
International
will mitigate the impact of U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff policy by shifting some production of its computer mice and other peripherals away from China.
Chief Executive Hanneke Faber said she would take an active approach to handling trade barriers, an issue of particular concern for Logitech, which produces all of its products outside the United States, though the country is its biggest market with 35% of sales.
"We are going to play offence while exercising strong cost discipline and acting with agility," Faber told analysts after the webcam and keyboards maker reported fourth-quarter earnings slightly below estimates.
The Swiss-American company presently makes roughly 40% of its products sold in the United States in China, creating a difficult situation after Washington imposed import duties of 145% on goods from Beijing.
Logitech now wants to reduce the share of China-made products shipped to the U.S. to 10%, by switching more of its production to Vietnam, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia and Mexico, where it has arrangements with contract manufacturers.
"We're in the fortunate position that we have invested in a really diversified manufacturing footprint," Faber said. "So while I won't say it's easy to shift volume, our team is doing a fantastic job at shifting volume fast to mitigate tariff impacts."
Other moves included raising prices in the United States by around 10% to compensate for tariffs, while the company would also remain focused on the rest of the world where it gets 65% of its sales.
In addition costs would be reduced, for example by delaying hiring, and cutting back on spending on travel and other expenses
The plan was unveiled as Logitech reported non-GAAP operating profit fell 16% to $133 million in the quarter ended March, missing analysts' estimate of $134 million.
Quarterly sales were flat at $1.01 billion, below estimates of $1.03 billion, the consensus of analysts compiled by Visible Alpha.
Bank Vontobel analyst Michael Foeth was encouraged by Logitech's plan, while the stock was trading 1.5% higher in early trading in Zurich.
"From a position of competitive and financial strength and with a highly agile production set-up, the company has a convincing track record to compete successfully in difficult times," Foeth said.

WTO key to resolving global trade tensions: Italian economist

Rome, June 29 (UNI) The global tariff tensions initiated by the United States (U.S.) should be addressed through the multilateral platform of the World Trade Organization (WTO), an Italian economics expert has said. Mario Tirelli, a professor of economics at the University of Roma Tre, said on Friday that the current U.S.-led trade disputes have broadened to affect nearly the entire world, including the European Union (EU), and are causing heightened uncertainty, something he described as "bad for the EU." "The most important sectors of international trade between the EU and the U.S. are machinery and transportation equipment, which accounted for nearly 40 percent of all EU exports to the U.S. in 2024," Tirelli noted. These sectors, he added, are among the most severely affected by the newly imposed tariffs. He criticized the Trump administration's approach to trade relations, describing it as fundamentally opposed to multilateralism. "We have to try to move this type of negotiation back to multilateral platforms," he said, adding that the WTO remains the ideal venue where countries' concerns can be addressed openly and fairly. As the U.S. has shown declining interest in supporting multilateral institutions such as the WTO, Tirelli called on the EU, China, and other like-minded countries to work together to uphold the multilateral framework. He said this collective support could serve as leverage to encourage the U.S. to return to multilateral negotiations. As a professor of game theory, Tirelli acknowledged that reaching a trade agreement between the EU and the U.S. would be difficult, but emphasized that the EU is not necessarily in a weak position, provided its member states maintain unity. "European countries have to understand that negotiation power will be really weak if they are divided," he said. Tirelli also highlighted the importance of maintaining cooperation between China and the EU, noting that the 50th anniversary of EU-China diplomatic ties presents an opportunity to deepen bilateral trade and investment. "Through trade with China, the EU can achieve highly competitive gains in sectors like green energy, including electric batteries and cars," he said. According to Tirelli, China could likewise benefit from the EU's expertise in areas such as aerospace, machinery, and financial technology, sectors he views as critical to China's continued development. Is Putin planning to teach Trump a lesson? Russia's dangerous plan against the US revealed, BIG threat for India too, Pakistan also plans to...

Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump New Delhi: Russia is planning to train at least 600 Chinese soldiers this year. According to the reports, the aim is to counter weapons used by the US and NATO. As per the Ukrainian media, Moscow will provide this training to Chinese troops at its own military bases and centers. This training program is part of a broader strategy in which Chinese soldiers will be taught the skills and tactics that Russia used in the war against Ukraine. To recall, there have been reports earlier suggesting that China has started training Pakistani fighter pilots on the J-35 stealth fighter jet. In addition, there have been several instances in past years where reports emerged that Chinese forces were providing training to the Pakistani military. However, Pakistan has officially denied these reports. Why the US Should Be Concerned About the Growing China-Russia Alliance According to the reports, the Chinese troops will be trained to counter Western weapons. The main focus will be given to preparing air defense specialists, engineers, tank operators, and artillery units. Security experts are concerned about the strengthening ties between Beijing and Moscow. Notably, China's border dispute with India still remains unresolved. In this context, Russia's plan may also cause concern for India, as China shares a border of several thousand kilometers with India, with many areas under dispute. Is China Helping Russia Against Ukraine? Last month, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that China has stopped selling drones to Kyiv and other European countries, but drones are still being supplied to Russia. During the early stages of the war with Russia, Ukraine was heavily dependent on Chinese drones like the DJI Mavic. Zelensky told Bloomberg that Chinese Mavics are available to the Russians but not to the Ukrainians. There are production lines in Russian territory where Chinese representatives are present. This indicates that China is helping Russia. China and Russia Collaborating to Build Attack Drones Ukraine has no facilities to manufacture drones and relies on its allies for the same. Its goal is to produce 300 to 500 drones every 24 hours. The Ukrainian president stated that there is no issue with production capacity; the problem lies in financing. In other words, Ukraine has the capability to produce drones, but lacks the necessary funds. Ukraine lacks funds to build drones Ukraine wants to produce 300 to 500 drones every day, but it is facing a shortage of funds. Meanwhile, China and Russia are jointly developing attack drones. China still relies on Russia for support in certain areas, such as missile and submarine production. Although China claims to be neutral, it appears to be more aligned with Russia.

Elon Musk renews criticism of Trump's ‘big beautiful bill' as it faces key Senate vote

Elon Musk on Saturday (June 28, 2025) doubled down on his distaste for U.S. President Donald Trump's sprawling tax and spending cuts bill, arguing the legislation that Republican senators are scrambling to pass would kill jobs and bog down burgeoning industries. 'The latest Senate draft bill will destroy millions of jobs in America and cause immense strategic harm to our country,' Mr. Musk wrote on X on Saturday as the Senate was scheduled to call a vote to open debate on the nearly 1,000-page bill. 'It gives handouts to industries of the past while severely damaging industries of the future.' The Tesla and SpaceX CEO, whose birthday is also Saturday, later posted that the bill would be 'political suicide for the Republican Party". The criticisms reopen a recent fiery conflict between the former head of the Department of Government Efficiency and the administration he recently left. They also represent yet another headache for Republican Senate leaders who have spent the weekend working overtime to get the legislation through their chamber so it can pass by Mr. Trump's Fourth of July deadline. Mr. Musk previously made his opinions about Mr. Trump's 'big, beautiful bill' clear. Days after he left the federal government last month with a laudatory celebration in the Oval Office, he blasted the bill as 'pork-filled' and a 'disgusting abomination". 'Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it,' he wrote on X earlier this month. In another post, the wealthy GOP donor who recently forecasted that he'd step back from political donations threatened to fire lawmakers who 'betrayed the American people". When Mr. Trump clapped back to say he was disappointed with Mr. Musk, back-and-forth fighting erupted and quickly escalated. Mr. Musk suggested without evidence that Mr. Trump, who spent the first part of the year as one of his closest allies, was mentioned in files related to sex abuser Jeffrey Epstein. Mr. Musk ultimately tried to make nice with the administration, saying he regretted some of his posts that 'went too far". Mr. Trump responded in kind in an interview with The New York Post, saying, 'Things like that happen. I don't blame him for anything.' It's unclear how Mr. Musk's latest broadsides will influence the fragile peace he and the president had enjoyed in recent weeks. The White House didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. Mr. Musk has spent recent weeks focused on his businesses, and his political influence has waned since he left the administration. Still, the wealthy businessman poured hundreds of millions of dollars into Mr. Trump's campaign in 2024, demonstrating the impact his money can have if he's passionate enough about an issue or candidate to restart his political spending.
