Comedian Romesh Ranganathan says he is ‘taking a step back' but not retiring
The 47-year-old from Crawley, known for his Bafta-winning TV series with comic Rob Beckett – titled Rob And Romesh Vs, emphasised that he will not be retiring.
'I know that people sort of say I'm busy and I'm always like, trying to work and stuff. There is no strategy. There's no game plan. I have no end game,' he told Lauren Laverne on BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs.
'There's no vision board or anything like that. (I'm) just doing whatever feels good.'
He added: 'I do feel like I'm sort of settling into winding things up, like not winding things up, but I'm taking a step back.
'I want to be at home a bit more. And by the way, this is not an announcement of retirement, but I do feel like, relatively recently, this is quite fortuitous that we're talking about this at the time that we are, because I have just hit this period of thinking I am probably going to just be a bit more measured in what I do going forward.
'I think I might take a bigger break between bits. I've told you, I've not hit the thing yet, maybe this next thing could be it, but it's not going to be it if I don't go off and just live life.'
Ranganathan also reflected on the time he spent as a maths teacher, before his current career, and said it was more stressful than working in comedy.
'There wasn't a single day of that job that I didn't feel completely fulfilled,' he said.
'I felt very stressed. It's the most stressed I've ever been in my life actually.
'There's not been a single day of my comedy career that's even come close to the stress that I felt as a teacher. I cannot speak highly enough of teachers and teaching and how I loved that job.'
Alongside his stand-up, the comedian is known for presenting game show The Weakest Link and starring in BBC One sitcom Avoidance.
He also starred in BBC Two documentary series The Misadventures Of Romesh Ranganathan and BBC Three's Asian Provocateur, which saw him trace his family roots.
In 2024, he took over Claudia Winkleman's Saturday morning slot on BBC Radio 2 and he also presents Romesh Ranganathan: For The Love Of Hip Hop on the station.

This Morning star joins Celebrity Gogglebox tonight with rarely-seen sister
Channel 4 has announced that This Morning's Alison Hammond is joining the cast of Celebrity Gogglebox for tonight's episode - and will be appearing alongside her sister and son Celebrity Gogglebox is adding another famous face to its sofa for tonight's episode, with This Morning star Alison Hammond joining the 2025 cast. It marks the presenter's first time on the hit Channel 4 series, which sees stars watch some of week's biggest TV moments. Reports of Alison joining the cast of Celebrity Gogglebox hit the headlines back in May, with the This Morning star and her son tipped to join the show. The current series of Celebrity Gogglebox has seen the likes of Paddy McGuinness, Vernon Kay, Clare Balding, Rylan Clark, Nick Grimshaw and other stars watch the telly highlights of the week. While the series began last month, some fans weren't impressed with its big return - complaining that it felt too "forced" for some of the celebs. "Not the dreaded celebrities again, so many of them are so annoying #Celebritygogglebox," one wrote, while another said: "Celebrity Gogglebox just isn't funny like the original, it feels forced! #gogglebox #Celebritygogglebox." Vicky Pattison is also on the cast this year alongside her longtime friend Pete Wicks. The former Geordie Shore star opened up about filming the show and the challenges they faced during the ongoing heatwave. Speaking on her podcast with Angela Scanlon, Vicky said: "We're done. It's in the bag. Last one is this week so make sure you tune in. I can't promise any feminist rants. I was sweating me t**s off. "It was 40 degrees in my front room trying to do that the other day, and obviously, with the heatwave we've been having this week, it's been f*****g savage. Yeah, literally swamp gusset galore." This series of Celebrity Gogglebox also saw Rag'n'Bone Man join the cast, marking his first ever reality TV appearance. Celebrity Gogglebox continues tonight at 9pm on Channel 4.

The V&A East Storehouse's upcoming David Bowie archive now has an official opening date
First announced in back 2023, the finer details of the V&A East Storehouse's new David Bowie Centre have finally been revealed. The V&A East Storehouse opened in May this year. Spoiler: it's amazing. But visitors have had to wait a bit longer for the arrival of the massive David Bowie archive, which will contain more than 80,000 items and span six decades of the life of Ziggy Stardust. It's been revealed that the David Bowie Centre will officially open on September 13 2025. And that isn't the only additional info that the V&A has revealed – we also now know more about the opening exhibits, which are going to be curated by BRIT-winning indie band The Last Dinner Party and living musical legend Nile Rodgers. Rodgers, who produced Bowie's albums Let's Dance and Black Tie White Noise has selected items including personal correspondence between himself and Bowie, a bespoke Peter Hall suit worn by Bowie during the Serious Moonlight tour and Chuck Pulin photographs of Bowie, Rodgers and guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan recording Let's Dance in New York Rodgers said: 'My creative life with David Bowie provided the greatest success of his incredible career, but our friendship was just as rewarding. Our bond was built on a love of the music that had both made and saved our lives.' The Last Dinner Party have mainly selected items from the 1970s which show how Bowie continues to inspire musicians today. Their choices include Bowie's handwritten lyrics for 'Win' from the 1974 album Young Americans, setlists from the 1976 Station to Station tour, and Bowie's Electronic Music Studios (EMS) synthesiser user manual. As well as the guest-curated exhibitions, the free-to-enter gallery will have nine displays showing everything from photographs to clothing, and drawings, and will include insights into unrealised projects. Plus, the V&A's fantastic order-an-object service will be included in the Bowie archive, meaning visitors can book one-on-one time with items from the archive.
