Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav will inaugurate the state-level programme on the occasion of International Tiger Day at Kushabhau Thakre Convention Centre in Bhopal on July 29.
He will visit the exhibition showcasing activities related to wildlife conservation and felicitate forest personnel for their outstanding work in the field of wildlife conservation.
Yadav will inaugurate vehicles related to wildlife translocation, rescue operations, and dog squads on this occasion.
According to the 2022 tiger census, India had an estimated 3,682 tigers, with Madhya Pradesh alone accounting for 785, the highest in the country, which is why it retained the tag of 'Tiger State'. Besides, having won the title of "Tiger State," Madhya Pradesh has achieved the top rank in the effective management of national parks and protected areas.
For instance, Satpura Tiger Reserve (STR) has been included in UNESCO's tentative list of World Heritage Sites.
According to the central government's evaluation report on tiger reserve management effectiveness, Pench Tiger Reserve ranked the highest nationwide.
Bandhavgarh, Kanha, Sanjay and Satpura Reserves were also rated as the best-managed reserves. These parks are known for their unique management plans and innovative conservation methods.
"The state's tiger corridors are well-connected to both northern and southern Indian tiger reserves. National parks have played a crucial role in tiger conservation through effective management and strategic relocation of villages from forest areas, freeing vast regions from biological pressure," said the Forest Department.
Due to rich wildlife, Madhya Pradesh has emerged as a major attraction in wildlife tourism. The number of both domestic and international tourists visiting the tiger reserves has been consistently increasing.
According to a report by the Wildlife Institute of India, Kanha Tiger Reserve has been declared the best tiger habitat in the country.
The reserve boasts the highest population of herbivores in India, including chital, sambar, gaur, wild boar, barking deer, nilgai, and hog deer - providing an abundant food source for tigers.

Tourists and tour operators express concern over Thailand-Cambodia conflict affecting travel plans

Thiruvananthapuram: Tourists and tour operators are expressing concern over the Thailand-Cambodia conflict after Indian embassy issued a travel advisory. The war between the two countries entered its fourth day with heavy shelling on both sides of the border. There are no cancellations yet because most tourists from Kerala visit Bangkok and Pattaya, while the travel season is yet to start in Cambodia. However, travel and tour operators are worried that cancellations will start if the conflict continues. Sejo Jose of IATO said trips to Thailand are not affected because the tourist spots included in the advisory are not popular with tourists from state. Most of the people from Kerala visit Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket. These areas are not affected by the shelling, he added. Nevertheless, the continuing conflict causes worry among travel operators who have called their counterparts in Thailand to find out if it's safe to send tourists, said Jose. Basheer Ahemed, committee member for south of Outbound Tour Operators Association, said travel is not affected at the moment. "But it will be a problem if the conflict continues. Life is normal in Bangkok and Pattaya. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like How to Trade ETH/USD Without Holding Ether IC Markets Learn More Undo Our counterparts in Thailand are positive about tourism and the safety of tourists," he added. Though Cambodia is one of the most popular new destinations, the conflict may not affect travel because this is the off-season. "For Kerala, Cambodia is off-season. People will start to travel to Cambodia from mid-August. Tourists will be affected if the conflict continues. Most of the people from Kerala combine Vietnam and Cambodia," Jose said. Manjari Singhal, chief growth and business officer, Cleartrip, said, "We saw a marginal decline in cancellations to Thailand and Cambodia since the week of July 24. With travel to alternate Southeast Asian destinations holding steady, the recent ceasefire, along with upcoming long weekend and festive season, is anticipated to boost travel to these destinations." The tour operators and tourists are waiting for a ceasefire declaration so that travel will become normal.

Their museum, my sighs

When Clive of India was recently spotted in Wales Family holidays are invariably hard work for those with an archaeologist or historian in the family. There's no basking in the sun with a book and a Margarita, no lie-in or breakfast in bed. The days follow a regular 9-5 routine. Endless aisles of Louvre are navigated, shoes are worn out at Smithsonian, and the mummies of British Museum are practically on first-name terms. There's always an exception to everything – something that breaks the pattern. A recent visit to Powis Castle in Wales to see the Clive Collection was one such outlier. Yes, Robert Clive – or Clive of India – who laid the foundation of the British East India Company's reign of Bengal. When he left India, it was with a cool personal fortune of £31mn (today's value), amassed at immeasurable human cost. That was just the cash and doesn't include the priceless artefacts that visitors are privileged to see. An impressive collection of Mughal-era artefacts is on display at Powis. It assembles items amassed by two generations of the Clive family: his son Edward served as the governor of Madras. It's also a reminder of the stealth, guile and deceit of East India Company. But that is history and one shouldn't quarrel with history. The most stunning display is one of the finials detached from the throne of Tipu Sultan of Mysore – a dazzlingly well-made tiger-head in solid gold, studded with diamonds, rubies and emeralds. Other objects that stand out include the ornately carved palanquin of Siraj ud-Daulah, the last Nawab of Bengal, and the elegant chintz cotton tent that Tipu used during his battles. The multitude of exquisite pieces, both on display and in storage, outnumbers any collection in national museums across South Asia. Each object was examined with an intensity the visitors didn't know they possessed. It was as if their own history lay bare among the ivory-hilted daggers and swords, curved gold-brocaded shoes, and elaborate paintings. The experience was like peering into a time gone by – an epoch otherwise encountered only in school textbooks and dry, one-dimensional history lessons. The affinity they felt towards the objects was difficult to make sense of – like trying to remember the details of a vivid but elusive dream. Nevertheless, standing among Clive's loot that morning, they heard the echo of battle cries, the neigh of horses and the stomping of hooves. The Indian visitors left Powis with the spectre of Robert Clive trailing behind them. Facebook Twitter Linkedin Email Disclaimer Views expressed above are the author's own.

Vietjet Bengaluru-Ho Chi Minh City daily service on the cards

Ho Chi Minh City: Flight travel between Bengaluru and Vietnam is set for a major boost with Vietjet, Vietnam's largest private carrier, planning to expand its Bengaluru (BLR) –Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) connection to daily service. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Currently, the airline operates four flights per week between the two cities. The airline is exploring this upgrade keeping in mind the increased interest being shown by Indian tourists, especially Bengaluru's high-spending tech crowd, in various exotic and offbeat destinations of Vietnam. "The response to our Bengaluru-Ho Chi Minh City route has so far been quite encouraging, and we may upgrade our current four-times-a-week service to a daily service in the future," Kieu Duong, Vietjet's international PR officer, told TOI on the sidelines of a tour at the picturesque port city of Vung Tau in Vietnam earlier this month. Tour operators have observed that Vietnamese cities like Ho Chi Minh City combine rich cultural attractions, such as the War Remnants Museum, Saigon Opera House, Independence Palace, and bustling Bến Thành Market, with affordability in accommodation, food, and sightseeing. The direct service connects Bengaluru to SGN in just about 4 hours and 40 minutes, with flyers no longer having to go through the hassles of taking connecting flights from other cities in India or from airports in Southeast Asia. Vietjet currently operates flights to six Indian cities – Bengaluru, New Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Kochi. The airline is not only looking to tap into rising passenger traffic on the India-Vietnam sector, but is also keen on offering flyers from India easy connectivity to destinations in Australia and Far Eastern and Southeast Asian cities, with Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi as transit hubs. "We're very optimistic about our India operations, and our target is to offer our guests an opportunity to enjoy a slice of Vietnam, while providing seamless connections to Australia, China and other destinations on our network," Kieu Duong added.
