Medicines watchdog to open 'digital hub' in city
The site, to be located in Leeds city centre, would focus on digital delivery, software development and data science, according to the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).
The MHRA regulates new medicines, healthcare products and healthcare technologies for patients to use.
Lawrence Tallon, MHRA chief executive, said opening the new site in the city was aimed at "strengthening our ability to collaborate with partners across the north of England".
There had been a "huge growth" in healthcare technologies driven by changes in software and AI which were going to revolutionise the way the NHS worked, and the new Leeds hub would help regulate those technologies, Mr Tallon said.
Leeds was chosen for the new hub as it was home to over 44,000 tech professionals and about 11,000 students studying tech-related subjects, according to the MHRA.
The hub, in Wellington Place, would also serve as a base for the digital operations of NHS England, with increasing investment from major tech companies, an MHRA spokesperson said.
About 30 permanent, highly-skilled roles would initially be recruited to work at the new centre in the city, they added.
Wes Streeting, secretary of state for health and social care, said: "There is a global tech revolution in healthcare unfolding, and Yorkshire will help our country lead it.
"This isn't just about creating new jobs across the region, it's also about bolstering a city that's already leading the way in digital health."
Mr Tallon said that by establishing an MHRA digital hub in Leeds, "we're strengthening our ability to collaborate with partners across the north of England – bringing regulatory expertise closer to the people, organisations and innovations we serve".
Meanwhile, he said Leeds was "buzzing, thriving, an exciting place".
"We are really excited about create new jobs within our organisation right in the heart of Leeds," Mr Tallon added.
Fiona Venner, Leeds City Council's executive member for equality, health and wellbeing, said the MHRA's announcement of the plan for a digital hub was "welcome".
"Leeds is already a centre for digital health and innovation and this rapidly growing market contributes significantly to the economy," she said.
"The hub will support the creation of jobs and provide career opportunities for local graduates and professionals."

Indian crypto exchange CoinDCX gets reportedly hacked for $44M originally appeared on TheStreet. The Indian centralized exchange CoinDCX has reportedly been drained for nearly $44.2 million almost 17 hours ago, the on-chain sleuth ZachXBT claimed on July 19. The attacker address was funded with 1 Ethereum from Tornado Cash and later bridged a portion of the stolen funds from Solana to Ethereum, the sleuth said. Tornado Cash is a non-custodial cryptocurrency mixer. "The affected CoinDCX hot wallet is not publicly tagged or in current proof of reserves so I had to manually attribute it via reviewing counterparties," ZachXBT added. They also identified the theft address on their Telegram channel, "Investigations by ZachXBT." ZachXBT credited Cyvers Alerts for flagging the suspicious withdrawals. Customer funds not impacted, CEO claims CoinDCX co-founder and CEO Sumit Gupta responded on X, "Today, one of our internal operational accounts - used only for liquidity provisioning on a partner exchange - was compromised due to a sophisticated server breach." Gupta added, "I confirm that the CoinDCX wallets used to store customer assets are not impacted and are completely safe." Gupta told CoinDCX users that the exploit didn't impact any customer funds, and customer assets remain completely safe and protected in their secure cold wallet infrastructure. All trading activity and INR withdrawals are fully operational on the exchange, he CoinDCX CEO also claimed that the incident was quickly contained by isolating the affected operational account. The exchange's operational accounts are segregated from customer wallets, so the exposure is only limited to this specific account and is being fully absorbed from CoinDCX's own treasury reserves, he said to reassure the exchange's customers. Gupta also said that CoinDCX is collaborating with its exchange partner to block and recover stolen assets and will soon launch a bug bounty program. Co-founder confirms $44M loss CoinDCX co-founder Neeraj Khandelwal said the exchange's treasury assets have lost around $44 million; the amount, he said, has been ascertained both internally and externally. When a user asked about the delay in releasing a statement, Khandelwal said the platform's priority was to first secure the assets before making any public users complained about not being able to view their portfolio pages or the app acting abnormal. Khandelwal blamed "excessive load on the platform" for portfolio APIs getting jammed. After some time, Khandelwal said the portfolio is back. However, the comment section had users complaining about CoinDCX showing lower returns than other exchanges and even losing funds. Web3 trading halted Khandelwal also said the exchange is working with multiple crypto forensics agencies to recover lost funds from their treasury. Khandelwal added: "Coindcx Web3 is not functional at the moment out of abundance of precaution. Customers funds in the Web3 section are also safe. Web3 trading will resume shortly and we will keep you updated." Not the first crypto hack in India CoinDCX isn't the first Indian crypto exchange to suffer an exploit. These 14 new NYC restaurants were just added to the Michelin Guide
They're officially on the map. Fourteen Big Apple restaurants were added to the Michelin Guide on Wednesday, and shockingly, most of them were not in Manhattan. Brooklyn had the most Michelin newcomers, with eight. Manhattan managed only six. The borough of churches boasted Middle Eastern restaurant Yemenat in Bay Ridge; 6 Restaurant, a European eatery in Carroll Gardens; Mango Bay, a Caribbean place in Fort Greene; Café Kestrel, a a contemporary joint in Red Hook; Taqueria El Chato in Greenpoint; and Enso, a sushi spot in Williamsburg. Two Brooklyn Thai spots — Glin Thai Bistro in Fort Greene and Hungry Thirsty in Carroll Gardens — also made the cut. Manhattan's new entries were: Adda, an Indian restaurant, and Caribbean Kabawa, both in the East Village; Joomak, a contemporary restaurant, and Central Asian spot Laliko, both in the West Village; along with French restaurant Maison Passerelle in FiDi. Texmaco Rail bags Rs 47.77 crore order for Wagons from UltraTech Cement
Texmaco Rail & Engineering Ltd has announced that it has received a significant purchase order from UltraTech Cement Ltd worth ₹47.77 crore. The order, dated July 18, 2025, was officially received by Texmaco on July 19 and involves the supply of BOXNHL wagons along with BVCM Brake Vans. According to the company's regulatory filing, the order is to be fulfilled by mid-October 2025. The order has been awarded by a domestic entity—UltraTech Cement—and does not involve any related party transactions. Texmaco also confirmed that the promoter group does not hold any interest in UltraTech Cement. This development adds to Texmaco's robust order book and reaffirms its standing in the Indian rail engineering and wagon manufacturing sector. In the meantime, on June 25, the company secured a major international deal from CAMALCO SA, Cameroon, marking a key milestone in its global push. The company received a Letter of Intent on June 24 for a contract worth $62.24 million (approx. ₹535 crore). The deal includes supplying 560 open-top wagons valued at $32.76 million and a 20-year maintenance contract worth $29.48 million. Production will take place in two phases over 24 months.
