Liz Garbus Ties ‘Lost Girls' to Arrested Suspect in ‘Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer' Trailer
The 2020 Lost Girls movie for Netflix that starred Amy Ryan centered on a mother searching for her missing daughter in Long Island and who makes a horrifying discovery in the woods where the murdered bodies of four girls had been dumped.

Gone Girls, also for Netflix and set to bow March 31, is also based on the famously unsolved Long Island serial murders, and Garbus brings her cameras again to a troubled police investigation that left friends and family of disappeared and forgotten women in the sex industry denied justice.
'There were red flags, one after the other, as to what was not looked into by the police,' one commentator says in the trailer for Gone Girls, a three-party documentary series. But that changed in 2023 when, after a 13-year search, the Suffolk County police arrested a Gilgo Beach serial killer suspect, Rex Heuermann.
Now Lost Girls, a drama about the hunt for a serial rapist, has been followed up with Gone Girls, a doc series about a botched investigation into a serial killer at long last arrested and facing criminal justice. Emmy-winning director Garbus retraces the twists and turns in a case that is now winding its way through the courts after Heurermann pleaded not guilty to allegedly killing seven women, but has yet to go on trial and may face added charges as more victims are potentially uncovered.
Garbus, who directs and executive produces the series, in a Q&A from Netflix explains her journey with the Long Island serial killer case: 'Lost Girls really told that story. We revisit the same case in Gone Girls. Why? Because thanks to a new regime in Suffolk County, we now have the answers the families were looking for over a decade. We got to explore what was going on in the police department and uncover a corruption scandal that made it clear why so little was being done for these women. I think it's a really powerful companion piece to the scripted film.'

‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners' Season 2 Announced at Anime Expo 2025 With New Director, New Storyline, and a Whole Lot More Blood
Night City is calling once again. During Anime Expo 2025, Netflix and CD Projekt Red officially announced Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 — a brand-new installment of the acclaimed anime series set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077. Revealed during the 'Cyberpunk: Edgerunners — Behind the Scenes With its Creators' panel, the new season will feature 'an entirely new story, fresh characters, and a raw, realistic take on the most dangerous city of the dark future.' Bartosz Sztybor, story writer and producer of the original series, confirmed the news alongside voice actors Emi Lo (Lucy Kushinada) and Zach Aguilar (David Martinez), host Joey 'The Anime Man' Bizinger, and Edgerunners director Hiroyuki Imaishi. During the panel, fans were treated to exclusive reveals of the official Season 2 logo and poster artwork, according to The Verge. 'David's story might be over, but there's plenty more to discover in Night City,' Sztybor said. 'And to again have the legendary animation studio TRIGGER along for the ride makes us at CD PROJEKT RED so excited to introduce a raw, real chronicle of redemption and revenge, something unlike what we've done before.' Taking the reins this season is Kai Ikarashi, who directed Season 1's standout episode 'Girl on Fire.' Ikarashi was formally introduced as the new director in a video message shown during the panel, where he also debuted a 'Director's Voice' video, offering a glimpse into his creative vision for the next chapter. The new 10-episode standalone story is being described as 'sadder,' 'darker,' and 'more bloody,' according to Sztybor, who didn't hold back during the Trigger Studio panel: 'I just wanted to make the whole world sad… when people are sad, I'm a bit happy.' He added, 'It will be also darker, more bloody, and more raw.' A synopsis teases what's to come: Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 presents a new standalone 10-episode story from the world of Cyberpunk 2077 — a raw chronicle of redemption and revenge. In a city that thrives in the spotlight of violence, one question remains: when the world is blinded by spectacle, what extremes do you have to go to make your story matter? Ikarashi will be joined by returning Edgerunners collaborators Kanno Ichigo (Promare, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners) as lead character designer and Masahiko Otsuka (Gurren Lagann, Promare), who will handle the screenplay adaptation. While there's no premiere date just yet, fans lucky enough to attend the Peacock Theater panel later that night were treated to a closed-door viewing of new teaser footage, which you can peep here. Burton, who got his start an animator with Walt Disney Animation Studios out of CalArts, directed the classic stop-motion animated short Vincent while with the studio in 1982. Later on, the filmmaker produced the stop-motion animated classic Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas (which was directed by Henry Selick) in 1993, co-directed Corpse Bride (with Mike Johnson) in 2005 and directed Frankenweenie (based on his 1984 live-action short film) in 2012. Now, just weeks before the return of Netflix's Wednesday Season 2 — which he executive produces and directs some of the episodes — Burton is teasing at least one of his upcoming projects. During a recent interview with the Mexican press outlet Milenio (via World of Reel) at the opening of his new exhibition Tim Burton's Labyrinth in Mexico City, Burton said, 'I am working on something as an animated project. (Photo by Medios) Tim Burton Did Not Indicate What Style Of Animation He Would Be Using For The Project While Tim Burton didn't get into any details about his upcoming animated project, it's quite likely that he will be filming in stop-motion animation again given his extensive history in the stop-motion field. In addition to his work on Vincent, Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride and Frankenweenie, Burton has worked stop-motion animated sequences into many of his live-action films, including Pee-wee's Big Adventure, Beetlejuice, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children and most recently, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. In the latter, stop-motion was used in the script to reveal the fate of Deetz family patriarch Charles Deetz, which also includes a cameo appearance by Burton. Stop-motion animation also is used in other key scenes in the film, including the return of the iconic black-and-white-stripped sandworm introduced in the original Beetlejuice. 'Tim made it very clear from the beginning that his intention was to use some stop-motion,' Beetlejuice Beetlejuice visual effects supervisor Angus Bickerton said in a Zoom conversation in November 2024. 'He knew he also wanted to — and we should mention the great work done by [creature effects creative supervisor] Neil Scanlan — use prosthetics, a creature effects team and a lot of on-set puppetry to capture the same vibe as the original," Bickerton added. Tim Burton's Labyrinth exhibition runs through Jan. 18, 2026, in Mexico City. Wednesday Season 2, starring Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams, returns to Netflix with Part 1 (Episodes 1-4) on Wednesday, Aug. 6, and Part 2 on Wednesday, Sept. 3 (Episodes 5-8).
