And it was the 31-year-old's typically classy finish on 73 minutes that finally killed off Brazilian giants Flamengo after they'd threatened a comeback.
Vincent Kompany's men were in total control for long periods, even though they were pegged back in the 32nd minute when Gerson smashed an unstoppable shot past Manuel Neuer.
Brazilian hopes were dented again just four minutes before the break after German international Leon Goretzka curled in a beauty from 20 yards.
Bayern were bossing proceedings at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium.

But Flamengo, coached by ex-Chelsea full-back Filipe Luis, and backed by thousands of fans here, were given hope on 54 minutes.
Former Crystal Palace ace Michael Olise was adjudged to have handled in the box by English ref Michael Oliver, and Jorghino, signed at the end of the season from Arsenal, rolled in from the spot.
The South Americans sensed blood and went for the kill, trying to force extra time.
Kane, though, is desperate to land his second piece of silverware of the season after landing the Bundesliga title.

Fluminense's Silva savours double celebration after beating Inter at Club World Cup

June 30 (Reuters) - Fluminense captain Thiago Silva had extra reason to celebrate after Monday's 2-0 win over Inter Milan in the Club World Cup round of 16, revelling not only in his team's historic performance but also in beating his former club's city rivals. The 40-year-old defender, who returned to his hometown club Fluminense last year, played three seasons with Milan between 2009 and 2012, winning a Serie A title and an Italian Super Cup. As Fluminense knocked their Italian opponents out of the revamped FIFA tournament, Silva acknowledged he thought about the joy Milan fans would feel witnessing their arch-rivals' defeat. "I was thinking here and thinking about Milan," he told DAZN after the match in Charlotte. "I'm sure the Milan fans will be happy about Inter's defeat and our victory." The centre-back, who also enjoyed successful spells at Paris St Germain and Chelsea, praised his team's outstanding performance in overcoming the Champions League runners-up. "This is a very important result for us. We knew it wasn't going to be an easy game. They played in the Champions League final less than a month ago," Silva added. "Today we played an incredible match. It had to be this way, there was no other way to achieve it. "We were always together, defensively we played an excellent match. They also made it difficult for us, perhaps we lacked something in defence, but that's understandable against an opponent like this." The Brazilians next face the winners of the Manchester City v Al Hilal tie in the quarter-finals on Friday.

Fluminense's improbable Club World Cup journey continues with Inter win

June 30 (Reuters) - Fluminense defied the odds and stunned Champions League runners-up Inter Milan with a 2-0 victory on Wednesday to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the revamped 32-team Club World Cup, continuing their improbable run in the competition. One of the tournament's biggest underdogs, Fluminense were given a 0.05% chance of winning the title by Opta and were initially tipped to exit in the group stage. However, the Rio de Janeiro club proved predictions wrong by finishing second in Group F, holding Borussia Dortmund and Mamelodi Sundowns to draws and beating Ulsan Hyundai to advance. Against Inter, Fluminense showed the grit and determination that have defined their campaign under charismatic manager Renato Gaucho, with Colombian winger Jhon Arias and striker German Cano once again making the difference. Arias, who is arguably in contention for the Most Valuable Player award, was once again a force up and down the right channel in a memorable win for the Brazilian side. Renato, a former Fluminense striker and club great, has transformed the team since taking over three months ago. Known for his attacking 4-2-3-1 system and relentless high-pressure style, which he calls 'creating chaos,' Renato has brought out the best in a squad that struggled in 2024, narrowly avoiding relegation in the Brazilian league. "Despite the short time frame, I praise the players for believing in the new plan. I convinced them that it would work," Renato told a press conference in Charlotte. "Inter are a great team. They have much more money than us, but on the pitch it's 11 against 11. The group believed, fought hard and stayed focused for the entire 90 minutes. Bravo!" Fluminense's defence, marshalled by 40-year-old captain Thiago Silva, a former Chelsea and Paris St Germain stalwart, and veteran goalkeeper Fabio, 44, has been resolute throughout the tournament. The side have also benefited from the creativity of Arias and the resurgence of Cano, who has rediscovered his scoring touch in the United States after months struggling with injuries. The Brazilian side now await the winners of Monday's game between Manchester City and Al Hilal, carrying the belief that they can continue their remarkable journey. "Today, we were not facing just any team. We were facing one of the giants of European football, a team that just a few days ago was playing in the Champions League final against PSG," Renato said of Inter, who were thrashed 5-0 by the French side. "We are very proud of ourselves for the affection and joy we are bringing to our fans and, without a doubt, to Brazilian football. We are proving that we have commitment and attitude on the pitch. Off the pitch, we can't compete financially, but on the pitch it's 11 against 11. That's it." Fluminense's improbable run at the Club World Cup serves as a reminder that football's magic lies in its unpredictability. Against all odds, Tricolor have earned the right to keep dreaming.

Inter Milan captain Martinez blasts team after Club World Cup exit

June 30 (Reuters) - Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez did not hold back after Monday's 2-0 loss to Fluminense, criticising a lacklustre display as they exited the Club World Cup in the last 16. Inter were stunned by a resilient Fluminense side, with the Italians failing to pose a real threat until the closing stages, leaving striker Martinez frustrated as he called on his teammates to show greater commitment. "I want to fight for the major titles. Anyone who wants to stay at Inter, fine, let's fight. But anyone who doesn't want to stay can leave," the Argentine told reporters. "We need players who want to be here. We're wearing an important shirt. We need a top-level mentality, or please leave." Inter arrived at the revamped Club World Cup as title contenders but, aside from a 2-0 win over River Plate in the group stage, the Serie A side had an inconsistent campaign —beating Japan's Urawa Red Diamonds with a last-minute winner and being held to a 1-1 draw by Mexican side Monterrey. Their last-16 exit adds to a frustrating season in which they failed to win domestic silverware and were crushed 5-0 by Paris St Germain in last month's Champions League final. "It was a long and tiring season, we finished empty-handed. It is a general message," Martinez added. "In order to stay up there and fight for titles, we must be eager ... I apologise to the fans who came here to follow us closely. I am the captain and I want to keep things at the top." Inter will kick off their Serie A campaign at home to Torino in August.
