‘For me, no-one else is like Man United' – Matheus Cunha determined to help change fortunes of his ‘dream team'
The defeat in Bilbao cost them Champions League qualification, meaning United will spend a first season without European football since 2014-15.
But the Red Devils' issues did not deter Brazil international Cunha, who completed his eagerly-anticipated £62.5million switch from Wolves on Thursday.

'It is the most common phrase that you can say at this moment, but this is the dream come true,' he told MUTV.
'Maybe outside, I think maybe my decision, they don't understand. But when you have always dreamed to play here, it's easier to pick this decision.
'For me, no-one else is like United. Of course, I know it's been a hard season for everyone. I think my decision shows what this club is for me and what I believe this club can be.
'And, of course, I'll do everything that I can to manage this inside of me, to play for my dream team and put my dream team to win.'
Cunha loved United growing up and spoke of his admiration for Wayne Rooney, along with many other members of the triumphant 2008 Champions League side.
The Red Devils are a long way from even qualifying for that competition right now, yet the forward has lofty ambitions.
'I don't think we have one player who comes here and then doesn't think about the glory days in Man United,' Cunha said.

'To remember all the times that they win the Premier League, how many titles it was, and of course to qualify for the Champions League. This is what I think about United, you know to put this club on top.
'Then what I can do is everything to show them I'm here to help the team, to conquer these kind of things.'
Cunha is the first of Amorim's summer recruits and the Brazilian, who has signed a deal until 2030 with the option of another year, is excited to work under the United head coach.
'I really believe in him, everything that he did in Portugal,' he said. 'I hope he can conquer the world like he did in Portugal.
'But of course I think he needs the players that can do everything like I'm open to do and help the team, help him. All the conversation that we have had made my decision easier.'

Frustration grows for Stephen Kenny as St Patrick's Athletic rues offside decisions
STEPHEN KENNY CUT a frustrated figure following St Patrick's Athletic's 0-0 draw at home to Bohemians last night. The Saints boss insisted it was not a worry that his side have scored just one goal in six games as attention now turns to their European campaign. St Pat's welcome FC Hegelmann to Richmond Park for the first leg of their UEFA Conference League first-round qualifier on Thursday, and just two wins in 12 games since they were top of the Premier Division on 2 May is an indication of how their season is on the rocks. Kenny acknowledged that Bohs are 'a very good team and they finished strong', and highlighted Simon Power's disallowed goal at a crucial stage in the second half. Advertisement 'I think we didn't create enough clear cut chances in the first half but obviously Jason McClelland's effort coming back off the crossbar and we had some periods of play. Obviously Simon Power was clearly onside when he's running again and that's happened about five or six times,' he said. 'I have evidence of five or six goals that have been clearly onside given offside. The easiest thing to do is just put up a flag and I think it's probably, we've got quick players like Jake Mulraney and Zach [Elbouzedi] and Simon so we have explosive players but they're the main players that have been flagged when they're running through. 'We've seen it quite a few times but, listen, that's the way it goes. Bohs had a couple of chances at the end themselves and we had to defend well to keep the clean sheet. 'Bohs actually showed more attacking play and more attacking intent than in the games we lost. In those five games we've kept three clean sheets and conceded one with an xG of 0.2 in both the games or something like that. So apart from Galway where we lost 3-1 and we have to take that one. So we're not conceding but we're not scoring and we have to score goals and we're not doing that. 'It doesn't worry me but it frustrates me and I think it is frustrating that we can't seem to just get that break.' Bohs, for their part, also had opportunities to take all three points. The best opportunity of the first half fell to new signing Douglas James-Taylor, but the striker was unable to score from 12 yards on his debut. 'You know, it's a good chance and I think he'll be disappointed in that. No disrespect to anyone, we have a different way of playing and we're asking him to press and that. So he's going to have to take time to adapt to that and we feel he'll get better over time,' boss Alan Reynolds said. Substitute Colm Whelan also glanced a close range header wide in second-half stoppage time as Bohs finished the game with intent in their bid to secure European football next year. 'Yeah, I know that Pat's are a team that would be wide open and want to come and play, so if the weather was better it would have been a proper game, but they were trying to win and they were leaving gaps and we were the same actually. 'We wanted to win it and we're not going to be different against anyone, that's the way we want to be, we don't set up to try to snatch a draw, but yeah, we'd enough chances at the end to win it, I would have felt. I think it was a great chance at the end,' Reynolds said.

Irish stars fail to shine as Lions stagger to unconvincing win
Owen Farrell watched from the stands as the British and Irish Lions laboured to a 21-10 victory over New South Wales Waratahs in what was comfortably their worst performance since arriving in Australia. A fortnight out from the first Test against the Wallabies and the Lions struggled to put away a side that finished eighth in the Super Rugby table and had lost five of their last six matches. Even the arrival of a heavyweight bench could not provide the lift Andy Farrell's men needed at Allianz Stadium and a dismal second-half made for grim viewing with Alex Mitchell's 55th-minute try at least providing some breathing space. Henry Pollock was withdrawn from the back row shortly before kick-off because of a tight calf and it was a good match for the rising star of English rugby to miss with a number of Lions playing their way out of Test match contention. Only Scotland centres Sione Tuipulotu and Huw Jones and props Pierre Schoeman and Finlay Bealham distinguished themselves with the impressive Jones finishing with two tries, lifting his total for the tour to three. Owen Farrell arrived into camp on Friday after being called-up as a replacement for the injured Elliot Daly and witnessed a display that fell well short of previous outings against Western Force and Queensland Reds. The former England captain smiled as he was booed and cheered when shown on the big screen, with team-mate Will Stuart comically joining the jeering coming from home fans. The Waratahs fought their hearts out even though they were missing several key players such as Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii and Angus Bell to Australia duty against Fiji on Sunday. Taniela Tupou, dubbed the 'Tongan Thor', had at least been released back to the franchise in the hope he would find some form ahead of the Tests but instead he struggled as the Lions mined three scrum penalties in the opening quarter. The tourists were dominating the set-piece, but it was the understanding of centres Tuipulotu and Jones that led to an opening try that was forged in Scotland. Jones crossed after being sent through a gap with a short pass from his Scotland centre colleague and then powered over for a second having also made the initial carry that drove the hosts backwards. Waratahs openside Charlie Gamble had seen a try chalked off for offside at the line-out but his team eventually succeeded in the 35th minute when Darby Lancaster capitalised on hesitant defending on the Lions' right wing. Hugo Keenan was enduring a nightmare debut after making error after error but he was far from alone as the familiar theme of dropped passes and poor handling continued to haunt Farrell's men. They led just 14-5 at the interval and when Ethan Dobbin finished a maul try one minute into the second half they suddenly found themselves in a tight spot, playing poorly against a side that was scrapping for everything. Mitchell settled the nerves when he took advantage of an overlap to dummy his way over and the Lions were unable to break through again in a desperately scrappy final quarter.

Heartbroken Rute Cardoso clings to family as she bids farewell to husband Diogo Jota
The heartbroken widow of Liverpool winger Diogo Jota was comforted by friends and family as she bid farewell to her late husband. Diogo, who was a winger for Liverpool, was tragically killed in a car crash alongside his brother André Silva in the Zamora region of Spain. His tragic death comes just 10 days after his wedding to Rute Cardoso, with whom he shared three children. The heartbroken widow of Liverpool winger Diogo Jota was comforted by friends and family as she bid farewell to her late husband. Pic: PA Diogo and André were laid to rest in their native Portugal on Saturday (July 5), with Rute being photographed lying on her husband's coffin as mourners lined the streets to bid farewell to the players. Rute and Diogo began dating in 2012, sharing two sons and a daughter together before Diogo popped the question in 2022. They got married in 2025, just 10 days before his untimely death. In a now heartbreaking post on his Instagram just before his passing, he shared a video of his wedding day, which saw him and Rute walk down the aisle and exchange vows. The late footballer captioned the video 'a day we will never forget.' View this post on Instagram A post shared by (@extradotie) Diogo's Liverpool teammates Virgil Van Dijk, Andy Robertson and coach Arne Slot attended the funeral in his native Gondomar, near Porto, with crowds lining the streets and applauding as the brothers' coffins were led into the church. Born in a family of four in 1996, Diogo started making a name for himself while playing youth football for local side Gondomar before joining Pacos de Ferreira's academy in 2013. He chose against going by his last name Silva, to differentiate himself from other Diogo's and Silva's in the teams he'd play for; with Jota being the Portuguese pronunciation of the letter J. Diogo and Rute share three children together, and married just 10 days before his untimely death on Thursday. Pic: Rute Cardoso/Instagram Jota made his debut for Pacos at just 17 years old and it wasn't long until he was picked up by Spanish giants Atletico Madrid in 2016. He wouldn't go on to make an appearance in the Spanish capital but he was loaned back to his hometown club FC Porto where he had a breakout season in 2016/17, scoring 8 goals as Porto. As one of the brightest prospects in Portuguese football at this point it came as a shock then when Jota made the move to the midlands of England to join Wolverhampton Wanderers. Wolves were undergoing a revolution of the club which saw many Portuguese talents join but Jota would go down as one of the best. He played a crucial part in Wolves getting promoted from the Championship to the Premier League, scoring 17 goals in 44 games before establishing the side in the Premier League scoring nearly 20 goals over two season as Wolves established themselves as a strong Premier League side. His form in the midlands would see him make the big money move to Anfield to join Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool for £40million in September 2020. He would play a crucial part in the most successful period in Liverpool's recent history. He won the FA Cup in 2022 and played a part in Liverpool reaching the Champions League final that same year where they lost to Real Madrid in Paris. Jota's club success would translate to the International stage as he played a part in multiple tournaments for Portugal. Since making his debut in 2019 Jota earned 50 caps for his nation, including at the 2020 and 2024 European Championships as well as the 2022 World Cup. He most recently won the UEFA Nations League with Portugal, after they beat Spain 5-3 on penalties.
