Rebecca Malope's 40-album career honored at Metro FM Awards
Stars came out for the METRO FM Music Awards 2025 to celebrate the contribution made by South African musicians and entertainers.
Themed 'Crowning Greatness', the event saw stars 'receive their flowers.'
Gospel legend Dr. Rebecca Malope (58) was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award together with Kwaito artists, TKZee.
'God is good!' she told Drum, kissing her trophy. 'I am truly honoured.'
She started making music in 1984, at 16 years old. She has more than 40 albums under her belt.
The Angingedwa singer says she does not take any form of recognition for granted and she appreciates every award as it shows through the years it has touched lives.

'I am blessed to still be around in 2025 when many of my peers have passed. I am honored that also my music has lived through the different generations, she adds.
'Staying relevant is not something one forces. But when your music has a message - it will last a lifetime.'
Almost in tears, Sis Ribz as she is affectionately known by her fans, says it has not been an easy journey.
'The music business is tough emotionally and financially. But we do it for the love.'
A few weeks ago, she was criticised on social media after an old video of her performing alongside controversial pastor Sheperd Bushiri went viral.

'I am used to criticism. I am human, it hurts at times but I know who I am. I have never gone to his church, I was booked to perform at an event and he happened to be open to the guests."
Sis Ribz concludes that her music does not discriminate.
'Gospel music is for everyone, and it does not discriminate or choose who it heals. I am just hoping my music lives for more generations and continues to heal people.'

Avant Gardner LLC took the drastic step after it faced ongoing financial snags and failed to reopen the prized East Williamsburg open-air concert hall in time for its 2025 season of shows – as newly minted CEO Gary Richards claimed he had no choice but to plunge into a reorganization. Getty Images The other venues in the sprawling complex, the Great Hall and Kings Hall, will still be operational, but the closure of the Mirage has been 'catastrophic' for the company's finances, Richards said in a court filing, according to Bloomberg. The Mirage is expected to reopen by next year, the company said. Avant Gardner, which is owned by co-founder Juergen 'Billy' Bildstein, owes various vendors more than $10 million, including a cool $1.8 million to South African DJ Black Coffee Entertainment, according to the Chapter 11 filing that paints a bleak financial picture. The company hopes to borrow up to $45 million to go toward the Chapter 11 proceeding and keep operations going, the filing shows. Meanwhile, the company has up to $500 million in liabilities and only at most $100 million in assets.

Will LIV Golf attract 15K fans for team championship in Detroit? Organizers hope so
Three weeks before LIV Golf makes its Michigan debut, Cam Smith already knows what to expect. 'I've played enough in the States, I guess, to know that I guess the further north you go, the rowdier the fans get, I think, is about right,' said Smith, the Australian captain of the Ripper GC team. 'So, expecting a pretty rowdy week, you know, with the concerts and everything. Hopefully, we get some big crowds and it should be a fun week.' During a virtual news conference Wednesday, July 30, Smith was joined by Louis Oosthuizen, the South African captain of Stinger GC, to preview the season-ending LIV Golf Team Championship Michigan, which will be played Aug. 22-24 at The Cardinal at St. John's in Plymouth. Twelve four-player teams will kick off the action the first day. Each match will consist of two singles matches and one alternate-shot foursome match, with three total points up for grabs. The tournament will be run in a bracket-style format with quarterfinals scheduled the first day, semifinals the second day and the final on the third day. The Ryder Cup-style event is yet another difference between the upstart LIV Golf tour, now in its fourth season, and the established PGA Tour. LIV promotes itself as a livelier and more relaxed experience with players allowed to wear shorts and music playing around the course during each round. The deep pockets of Saudi Arabia's Investment Fund, which primarily bankrolls the tour, has spent considerable money to lure former PGA Tour stars and major winners like Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson. Those five players alone reportedly received contracts that totaled nearly $1 billion. The star power plus the carnival-like atmosphere that will feature live performances by "Imagine Dragons" after Saturday's round and by house group "Swedish House Mafia" on Sunday could help attract the 10,000-15,000 fans organizers are expecting. 'It feels like you had a festival,' Oosthuizen said of LIV events. 'It feels like … there's a concert. Some have more than one concert and music. You'll see a lot of younger people. They're enjoying (the tournament) outside of golf, not just the golf. 'And, you know, that's the biggest thing to attract people that (don't) really know anything, a lot, about golf, and getting them to see the top players play the game, and then also enjoy family time with the fan zone and everything else we do outside of just golf.
