Charges filed against three men in connection with armed robbery in Aurora Township
The Sheriff's Office responded to a report of an armed robbery with shots fired on Monday evening on the 800 block of Konen Avenue in Aurora Township, according to past reporting.
According to a preliminary investigation, three people had approached a red Mitsubishi Outlander and demanded its driver, a man from Aurora, give them his money and cell phone. One of the individuals fired a weapon and injured the Aurora man's right leg, officials said.
The man was taken to Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora with non-life-threatening injuries and later released, according to past reporting.
The individuals involved ran north from the scene of the incident, the Sheriff's Office previously said. Those who remained at the scene were detained, with one released with no charges and another held for further investigation and questioning, according to past reporting.
Police dogs and a drone were deployed to locate evidence and the individuals involved, officials said.
Charges have now been filed against three men in connection with the incident – Ellis A. Pryor, 20, 1700 block of Molitor Road in Aurora; Demeir L. Miller, 23, 800 block of North May Street in Aurora; and Francis E. Whitaker, 21, of the 800 block of Konen Avenue in Aurora, according to the press release.
All three men face charges including armed robbery with a firearm; armed robbery, discharged firearm causing great bodily harm or death; aggravated battery involving a discharged firearm; armed violence, committing a felony with a Category I weapon; aggravated unlawful restraint; mob action violence; aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon; and unlawful restraint. Whitaker also faces a charge of unlawful possession of a weapon in a vehicle with a previous conviction, the release stated.

Missing woman feared dead in California desert found alive and safe in Colorado
Kelsey Pittman's family had already reported her missing weeks earlier when authorities found her car parked outside Death Valley National Park. Pittman was known to go by 'Infinity Jane' or 'Jane Jones,' but her family had few clues about where she was — until their search eventually led them to a rugged part of the Sonoran Desert where people prefer to live off the grid. Pittman was known to visit Las Vegas, but the last time anyone heard from her was in November when she made contact with local police in Utah. Besides her abandoned vehicle, there were no signs the 33-year-old was in the Inyo County area, or camping out in Death Valley, Joshua Tree or Slab City. But now, the search is over. Authorities this week said she was found alive — in Colorado. 'The Inyo County Sheriff's Office is relieved to announce that Kelsey Pittman has been located alive in the state of Colorado,' the agency said in a Facebook post Tuesday. Out of respect for her and her family's privacy, the department said it would provide no other details about the case. The news closes the chapter on a months-long search that involved law enforcement agencies in multiple states. Pittman's family in North Carolina reported her missing in November. Inyo County Sheriff's deputies first became involved in the case when they responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked near Slab City on Feb. 9. Deputies found a 2009 Chevrolet HHR with North Carolina plates parked in the area. The vehicle was registered to Pittman. Deputies searched the vehicle and the area but did not find her. A missing person's investigation was launched. Even her mother came to Inyo County to join in the search, the Sheriff's Office announced earlier this month in a news release. The Slab City community is made up of RV dwellers, artists and other bohemian living off-the-grid. Conditions in the area where Pittman's vehicle was found are notoriously harsh, and hikers have been known to become disoriented in extreme heat and disappear and die in the surrounding desert. Investigators coordinated with multiple police agencies, drone pilots, cadaver dog handlers, and volunteer search-and-rescue crews to look for Pittman, until they exhausted those efforts. In announcing her discovery, Inyo County officials thanked search-and-rescue workers for their efforts.

GloRilla's home was targeted by burglars. She says it's ‘crazy' that she was arrested instead
Rap star Glorilla is spilling her tea about her recent arrest, sharing her side of the chain of events that led to her felony drug charges this week. The 'Sticky' and 'TGIF' musician, whose real name is Gloria Woods, said Thursday on X that her run-in with law-enforcement officials was 'CRAZY.' She claimed that police, 'instead of focusing on finding the Suspects' who broke into her Atlanta home, 'they focus[ed] on some cannabis.' '1. So no I wasn't busted 2. My house got robbed 3. I wasn't home,' the 25-year-old performer wrote. 'Long story short my house gets home invaded and I'm the only one that gets arrested.' Officers with the Forsyth County [Ga.] Sheriff's Office were dispatched early Sunday morning to the rapper's home, responding to a report of a burglary. Woods was in Indianapolis at the time for the WNBA All-Star Game, where she was the halftime performer. Three suspects entered Woods' home and were stealing items when an occupant of the house fired a weapon at the intruders. The intruders fled the scene and did not appear to have been injured, the sheriff's office said. Deputies investigating the burglary noticed a 'strong odor consistent with illegal narcotics,' and a drug task force secured a warrant to search the home. A statement from the sheriff's office alleges the task force found marijuana 'in plain view inside the master bedroom closet.' Woods was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance. She voluntarily turned herself in on Tuesday and was released on $22,260 later that day. The sheriff's office said that it has not located the suspects and that its investigation into the burglary is ongoing. Legal representatives for Woods alleged the suspects fled the scene with 'high value jewelry' and that Woods' family members staying at the home 'were traumatized' by the incident. Attorneys Drew Findling and Marissa Goldberg said in a statement that Woods' arrest is 'a disturbing window into how warped law enforcement priorities have become' and that their client 'is a victim, not a suspect.' Sheriff Ron Freeman said in a statement that the homeowner is the 'victim of a serious crime' and that officers seek justice but 'at the same time ... must continue to uphold and enforce the law in all aspects of this case.' After speaking out on X about her arrest, GloRilla moved forward by celebrating the arrival of Leo season. Jacksonville sheriff airs video of traffic stop arrest after stressing need for 'context'
Jacksonville police are reviewing a traffic stop and arrest that inflamed an online audience, but prosecutors have decided the arresting officer didn't commit any crimes, Sheriff T.K. Waters said July 21. 'One video devoid of context can be very misleading,' Waters told reporters after screening bodycam footage from three officers connected to the Feb. 19 arrest of William Anthony McNeil Jr. Video shot inside McNeil's car, apparently recorded by the driver, prompted almost 2,000 comments and thousands of 'likes' after being posted on Instagram and drawing attention to the encounter which ended with a window being broken on the locked car door and McNeil ending up on the ground under officers' control. Sheriff T.K. Waters is holding a news conference regarding the investigation into a traffic stop from February 19, 2025. We will be releasing body-worn camera footage and additional details. McNeil, 22, retained civil rights attorneys Ben Crump and Harry Daniels, the lawyers' publicist reported in a email where the pair called for public release of video of the arrest. 'This wasn't law enforcement, it was brutality. All video from JSO should be released to ensure there is transparency for McNeil and the community,' said a statement attributed to 'the legal team.' It added that 'We demand full accountability from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and justice for William McNeil Jr.' Two days after his arrest, McNeil pleaded guilty to resisting police without violence and driving with a suspended license, court records show. He was sentenced to two days already served in jail and a misdemeanor marijuana charge was dropped. During an evening news conference, the sheriff said he knew nothing of McNeil's arrest until July 20 when he was notified about a social media post describing the arrest but showing only a portion of the encounter. Waters said he could neither condone nor condemn officer actions during the stop and arrest because it was still under review by his agency. The video Waters released followed Officer D.J. Bowers' engagement with McNeil, whom Bowers told he had stopped around Commonwealth Avenue for not having headlights on during 'inclement weather.' After McNeil said headlights weren't needed and Bowers told him to step out of the vehicle, McNeil answered 'no, no' and told the officer to call his supervisor. 'Uncooperative adult driver,' Bower said into his radio, apparently advising someone of the situation. Again being told to step out, the driver answered no and closed the door. Bowers put his hand on the door and radioed that it was locked. About 45 seconds later, Bowers said 'right now, you're under arrest for resisting. … The longer you take … the worse it's gonna be.' 'Open the door and exit or we are going to break the window,' Bowers said about 35 seconds later, then repeatedly ordered the driver to open the door and said the driver was under arrest for resisting. More than two minutes later, after more officers arrived and another officer talked to McNeil and told him he had to get out, Bowers told a colleague he was about to break the window and was told 'all right, go for it' and smashed the window, unlocking the door and pulling the driver out. Video from McNeil's appeared to show his head was hit by a hand or fist before he got out of the car, then again during a scuffle, and he ended up on the ground with several officers around him, one of whom radioed for a rescue unit to look at a cut on his lip.
