
Locals who live near overgrown & derelict theme park inspired by King Arthur say it's better than the council's new plan
Residents living near Camelot theme park in Chorley have expressed their frustration with the proposed plans.

Having closed down over a decade ago, the derelict site has become overgrown and littered with graffiti.
It has turned the once-popular theme park into a hot spot for urban explorers and rebellious locals.
Despite the 140-acre land laying unused since 2012, locals have protested against new planning proposals that could see the site repurposed.
The plan centres on an £80 development that would see 350 homes built on the site.
Plans were put forward by Developers Story Homes to Chorley Borough Council on June 20.
However, similar plans have twice been rejected - once in 2014, and again in 2017 - since the developers bought the site in 2009.
In planning documents they claim it is "well positioned" to support wider regional growth and a "prime location" for a residential development like this.
They plan to keep half of the new homes as "affordable" housing after the estimated seven-year project.
The developers also hope it will lead to more wide-ranging benefits for the area, bringing in jobs and higher household expenditure.
Despite the optimistic proposals, residents in nearby Heskin have argued against the project, with 25 objections to the proposals and just one supporting.
They are primarily concerned about the destruction of wildlife on greenbelt land.
Others were worried about increased noise and traffic, with the village's population of 1,000 people having "insufficient infrastructure" to cope with new residents.
One resident commenting on the proposals said: "There are not enough amenities to cope. How will the schools, GPs, roads cope?
They added: "Please leave our greenery and woodland and nature alone."
Other residents expressed similar concerns, with one writing: "The development lacks clear provision for new schools, healthcare or transport links - failing to meet the needs of the existing population, let alone new residents."
Another resident raised concerns about existing drainage problems in the area.
While the report does consider flood risks to the site, they feel it has not adequately considered risk to the existing properties.
They wrote: "We have issues with drainage already and with the aforementioned sites we have no idea how this is going to impact the communities with flooding and future issues."
Residents generally would rather the site be used to enhance the existing community, for example with a leisure centre, or dedicated woodland trails.
Out of the 27 comments on the planning proposal, only one local expressed support for the development.
They wrote: "There are some who say there isn't the infrastructure to make this development viable. I would say, there are numerous engineers whose job it is to ensure that there will be enough electricity/drainage etc to ensure the development will be ok.
"As long as the development is sympathetic to the local nature, I think it is an ideal use of a brown field site."
The planning application does contain reference to a 186.9 square metre community hub "with associated habitat creation, landscaping, open space, parking, footpaths / cycleways, drainage and other infrastructure."

Dog rescued after getting stuck down a well for 11 days
A dog who was stuck down a four-metre deep well for 11 days has been rescued. Jimmy, a 10-year-old corgi cross, and his owner Dorota Gruszczynska had an emotional reunion when he was found by firefighters last week, who she credited for 'saving his life'. Ms Gruszczynska had been desperately searching for her beloved pet after he went missing while on a walk in Corby, Northamptonshire, on 21 June. She said Jimmy chased after something that day and did not return. The concerned owner issued appeals online and rallied the local community to help in the search. Then, 11 days after Jimmy vanished, Corby fire service was called to reports a dog was stuck four metres down a well on Stephenson Way in Corby, according to a statement posted on social media. The firefighters had to use a reach pole and lines to lift cylinders that he was wedged beneath, or order to lift him to safety. After scouring online for clues as to who the dog's owner could be, they found Ms Gruszczynska's appeal on a local missing dog page. It turned out the rescued animal was Jimmy, who was reunited with his elated owner on 2 July. She told the BBC she was incredibly grateful to the firefighters and credited them with 'saving his life'. Ms Gruszczynska told the broadcaster: 'We searched the area so many times and nothing, we created posters, put them online and sent them around the local area.' The more time that passed, she said she 'started to lose hope', adding: 'We thought he had been hit by a car and we would never see him again.' But she received the message she had been hoping for on 2 July, when a firefighter told her they believed they had found Jimmy. She said: 'Firefighters had been called to the area, and had heard him barking, they asked if he had a green harness on and told me he was alive. It was near where we had lost him, we had called him so much in the area, but never heard him barking. We couldn't believe it was him.' She added: 'We're so grateful for everyone who helped, including the drone company. They did a huge amount of work, purely out of their heart. So many people shared the cause, and it helped as the firefighters knew to contact me.' Ms Gruszczynska said Jimmy was examined at the vets and found to be extremely hungry but not dehydrated. 'He's back on his feet, he's recovered surprisingly well, we don't know how he survived, there must have been water in the well,' she added. Corby Fire Station confirmed that Jimmy was safe and well when he and Ms Gruszczynska visited the station this week.

New facilities will nearly double Towcester school in size
A secondary school will nearly double in size when a range of new facilities based in a previously abandoned building Gateway School in Tiffield, near Towcester, Northamptonshire, educates 11-18 year-olds with additional social, emotional and mental health facilities, opening in September, will include a gym, food technology suite, science rooms, a drama studio, a multi-use games area and a horticulture area. "We are thrilled to unveil these new spaces, which have been thoughtfully designed to meet the evolving needs of our students," said Conor Renihan, the school's executive head teacher. "This expansion allows us to offer a richer, more diverse curriculum and a nurturing environment where every pupil can feel valued and supported." A couple has entered into war with the council after converting their garage into a two-bedroom home - after being told it is not close enough to the main property. Steven and Sally Manning, of the town of Costessey, Norfolk, bought their four-bedroom property in June 2018 for £650,000. They created the 'self-contained annex', which lies just 13m away from the house, for their son, daughter-in-law and child, to give them privacy. Mr Manning then applied for retrospective planning permission from Broadland and South District Council. But this was refused as the converted building was said to be far enough away from the main house that it was 'akin to a new dwelling' - which is not regulation. Determined not to give in, the couple have now escalated the feud to the national planning inspectorate. The council, though, still insist the 'separation distance' and 'lack of close interactive relationship' between the dwellings is too much of an issue. MailOnline spoke to neighbours near the property, which sits on a quiet gravel lane off a main road on the outskirts of Norwich - and they are deeply divided about it. Some understood, like Chris Aye, 34, a builder working on a house nearby, who said: 'They should definitely be allowed to keep it in the current climate. 'If it helps people get their own place, those people who have done that for their boy or girlfriend should be allowed to. 'I know how hard it was when I first bought a house and I struggled with the cost. It's impossible for youngsters. 'They are making it harder for youngsters to get on the housing ladder. I say let them keep it.' The house, which has a drive with caravans and a workshop on it, is set back from the road, sitting behind a wall with a high hedge and metal gate. It is nestled between two bungalows where older people live. The new two-bedroom home is now a picture postcard cottage on the back lawn. Washing blows on the line in front of it and children's toys are scattered across the communal garden. In the retrospective planning application, the Mannings' developers said the annex was not a separate home because it is part of the whole property. But council planners disagreed, saying annexes must be 'designed so that they can continue to be used as part of the main dwelling without creating an independent unit in the future'. His application was refused on the grounds the annex was 'akin to a new dwelling outside of the development boundary'. Appealing this, Mr Manning's developers told the planning inspectorate: 'It is acknowledged that the conversion has incorporated some operational development including the re-roofing of the structure to allow some, albeit restricted, first-floor sleeping accommodation. 'However, the use of the structure to provide annex accommodation to the host dwelling is based on an existing domestic outbuilding, the footprint of which has not been increased.' But the council still say the annex is too far away from the main house, creating 'an independent dwelling located outside of the development boundary in an area where due housing would be restricted'. Neighbour Maryan Kagan, 26, said: 'As long as it is safe for the people living there, it's not a problem. 'I understand there's all these rules you need to follow but it's difficult for people to buy or rent a house. 'It costs a lot to buy a house and not everybody can afford to staying living near their families. 'Norwich is becoming a more expensive city. The average rent here for a little flat is £800 a month. But that's at the bottom end of the barrel.' Another neighbour, Dave Seaman, 57, said: 'With respect to him housing his family, I don't see that being an issue if it's not affecting the neighbours. 'But I know the rules are there for everyone to abide by. You need building control and planning for change of use. 'I do feel sorry for them. I'd do the same thing for my family.' But another neighbour, who did not want to give his name, disapproved: 'You just have to go by the rules. 'If that's what the planning rules are, why would you go against that? I have no objection to the council's decision. 'I think it comes down to the accommodation. 'If it's up to current building regulation standards and it's got a suitable energy rating and is built in accordance with the requirements it should be deemed permissible. 'But does it set a precedence for everyone else to turn their garages into accommodation?' Another neighbour, aged 93, who lives with his wife nearby, said: 'If it was someone doing it next to me I would make a complaint. The council knows what the rules are. 'If he's breaking the rules, it's fair enough to stop them. The council will enforce the rules. 'I had to put in for planning permission for an extension and I followed the rules. 'They shouldn't get away with it if they haven't followed the rules. But I'm not sure what the rules are.'
