5-Star Oregon Football Target Makes Announcement After Visit With Ducks
Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning is up for a pivotal weekend, as he and his staff are hosting a handful of five-star and blue-chip prospects on official visits.

One name involved with the Ducks this week is five-star safety Joey O'Brien, who would be a massive get for Lanning and co.
According to 247Sports, Oregon ranks No. 29 in the nation with their 2026 recruiting class at this time -- which is subpar to Lanning's standard in Eugene.
Landing O'Brien, a Pennsylvania native, would be phenomenal for Lanning's class, especially if Oregon can receive commitments from others on the trip this week.
Battling Penn State, Clemson and Notre Dame, Oregon will soon know where O'Brien will pledge his services, as the highly-touted safety has announced when he will make his announcement.

O'Brien will choose between the four programs on June 20, which isn't long after his visit with Oregon.
"Almost that time!" O'Brien shared on X after his commitment date was revealed.
Given that the Ducks are getting a great chance to sell the safety on landing in Eugene this close to his commitment, Lanning might be able to secure O'Brien over their new Big Ten rival, Penn State.
Still, Penn State's proximity to O'Brien, as a Pennsylvania native, might give them a leg up when it comes to decision day.
According to 247Sports, O'Brien is the No. 30-ranked prospect in the 2026 class and the No. 4-ranked safety.

The Ducks won't get the last word in the blue-chip recruitment, as he will be visiting Notre Dame next weekend to round out his trips before his commitment.
Oregon would love to land O'Brien's services and bolster their 2026 recruiting class with another five-star talent, as they could be up for a pivotal few weeks.

Ranking the 25 best Oregon Ducks since 2000: No. 7 — De'Anthony Thomas
Over the last 25 years, the Oregon Ducks have been one of the single best teams in all of college football, sitting near the top of the sport for the better part of a quarter-century. Since 2000, Oregon has compiled an overall record of 239-83 (.742), with just two losing seasons during that span. They've been to 24 bowl games, won three Rose Bowls, been to a pair of College Football Playoffs, and appeared in two National Championships. They've seen a Heisman Trophy winner in Marcus Mariota and had 99 players selected in the NFL Draft. It's safe to say that when looking at the nation's best in this millennium, Oregon belongs in the conversation. But who are the players who helped get Nike University into that conversation? That's a different question entirely. To celebrate the quarter-century mark, we're going to dive into that question over the next month as we approach the start of the 2025 season. The Ducks have had hundreds of memorable and beloved players over the years, many of whom will live on forever in some way. But who is the best of the best? That answer, of course, is subjective. When reviewing the numbers and conducting our research, we took several factors into account: career statistics, overall impact and success, legacy, fan adoration, and NFL success. Boiling 25 years of Oregon football down to 25 players is no easy task, and not one that we took lightly. Dozens of players were left on the cutting room floor who deserve a spot in the top 25, and at some point, subtracting names off the list started to feel like pulling teeth. But in the end, we were left with 25 players, whom we will honor over the next few weeks. If you want to catch up, let's take a look at how we've gotten to where we're at in the rankings: Today, let's continue with No. 7 — The Black Mamba, De'Anthony Thomas. Player Overview When De'Anthony Thomas dropped his commitment to USC and came to Oregon, it signified the first recruiting battle the Ducks won over the Trojans on this magnitude. It was major news when he flipped on signing day. The Trojans envisioned DAT as the next Reggie Bush and it was a major blow to their program when he came to Eugene. As it turned out, he was the perfect player for Chip Kelly's offense. It could be said DAT was the most electrifying player in Oregon history. Every time he touched the ball, whether it was as a running back, a receiver, or a kick returner, there was always a good chance he would take it to the house. DAT was a video game in real life and it was a blast to watch. De'Anthony Thomas' Career Stats 2011-13: 243 rushes, 1,890 yards (7.8 ypc), 26 TD, 113 catches, 1,296 yards (11.5 ypc), 15 TD, 25.8 yards per KO return, 4 TD, 17.1 yards per punt return, 1 TD De'Anthony Thomas' Single Best Season 2012 — 13 Games, 92 carries, 701 yards (7.6 ypc), 11 TD, 45 catches, 445 yards, 5 TD, 24.3 yards per kick return, 1 TD, 13 punt returns, 222 yards, 17.1 ypr DAT became more of a fixture in the Oregon offense his sophomore season and the production shows. He was more of a plug-and-play type guy his freshman season as the Ducks were still trying to figure out how to maximize his talents. However, in 2012, everything came together, including a 94-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to start the Fiesta Bowl, which set the tone for the entire game in a 35-17 win over Kansas State. De'Anthony Thomas' Historical Records De'Anthony Thomas NFL Draft Thomas was drafted in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. De'Anthony Thomas' NFL Success DAT played six seasons in the NFL, mostly with the Chiefs. He ended the 2019 season with the Baltimore Ravens. However, he never really made the type of impact in the NFL as he did in Eugene. Injuries also slowed him down some and speed was a major factor in his game. In total, he played in 69 games and scored four touchdowns in his career. De'Anthony Thomas' Lasting Legacy Thomas was a product of his time and was exactly what Chip Kelly needed for his offense —a do-everything hybrid player who was just emerging on the scene in college football. If Thomas was playing now, college football teams would be lining up with the NIL money waiting to throw his way. Oregon and USC had often fought over recruits in the Southern California area, but Thomas shocked the world when he flipped. It was a huge off-the-field win for the Ducks, a trend that keeps on going to this day. College Basketball Crown Announces Dates for 2026 Tournament
We may not know who will wear the College Basketball Crown in 2026. But we now know when we'll find out. Dates for the 2026 tournament were announced on Monday, with the tournament starting on Tuesday, April 1, and ending on Sunday, April 5. Just like the first edition of the tournament, the 2026 College Basketball Crown will take place in Las Vegas. Games will be played at either the MGM Grand Garden Arena or T-Mobile Arena. However, there will be one change made to the College Basketball Crown 2026. There will only be eight teams in the tournament, cutting the field in half from the inaugural edition. The eight teams that will make up the 2026 field for the College Basketball Crown will consist of the top two teams in the Big East, Big Ten and Big 12 that didn't make the NCAA Tournament, along with two wild card teams selected by the committee. "We launched the College Basketball Crown to create more opportunities for elite competition during the thrilling college basketball post-season – and we saw an incredible response from fans, conferences, and players for the inaugural tournament," FOX Sports executive vice president and College Basketball Crown board member Jordan Bazant said in a release. "We look forward to building on that momentum this spring by delivering high stakes matchups between top teams throughout the competition on FOX and FS1." "The College Basketball Crown has already proven to be a premium, athlete-first post-season platform that delivers for schools, our brand partners, and fans," President and COO of AEG Global Partnerships and College Basketball Crown board member Nick Baker added. "We're proud to continue this tournament alongside FOX Sports and our partners and we look forward to raising the bar once again in 2026 with top-tier talent, world-class venues, and continued innovation." Nebraska won the inaugural edition of the College Basketball Crown in 2025, winning three of its four games by double digits. It took down UCF in the title game, 77-66. The inaugural edition of the College Basketball Crown featured a $300,000 name, image and likeness (NIL) prize pool for the champion. UCF, the runner-up, received a $100,000 NIL prize pool. Villanova and Boise State, who lost in the semifinals, received a $50,000 NIL prize pool. New NIL prize opportunities related to the College Basketball Crown will be announced at a later date. The second edition of the College Basketball Crown will also air on FOX and FS1. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? Kirk Herbstreit: Play-in games may be right fix for College Football Playoff
Yahoo Sports' Jason Fitz spoke with the ESPN college football analyst about the suggestion from Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz that creating play-in games for automatic bids to the playoff may be the right solution moving forward. View more Video Transcript So I'm not sure in the short term how to get the Big Ten and the SEC to play nice in the sandbox together. Maybe they don't have to, but you've seen all of the playoff proposals. What do you think of what the Big Ten wants to do now with automatic qualifiers for their conference? I like, I like what Eli Drinkwitz came out and said against his own conference and, saying that why don't we have more play and opportunities. You know, can you imagine instead of that last Saturday this season being just the SEC or Big 10 or Big 12 or ACC championship. Imagine if the SEC had 1 and 2, but then you also have 3 and 6 and 4 and 5 playing each other. And imagine if we had the excitement of 3 and 6, winner of that game is in the playoff. 4 and 5, the winner of that game is in the playoff. I think that is fascinating, and he was very passionate in the way he described that. I would be a fan of that personally. And give these teams hope, as opposed to, you know, just the two teams that play in the conference championship have a shot to get that automatic spot, and then you're hoping for at large after that. I love the idea of a kind of a play-in weekend, throughout the entire country. I think that would create a ton of buzz for the players, and for the fans. It's fun debate, it's subjective, it creates a lot of passion. But I think it really, if you go back to the play-in model that I'm suggesting, it takes away some of the pressure of just a committee selecting these teams, and it gives the actual players a chance to set on the field by giving them that if they qualify, a play-in game, and then you have no one to blame. Hey, you were in, you had the play-in game, you lost, so you have no one to blame. You can't blame the committee. You know, you lost a football game, so you're not going. So I think that would be the right way to go personally. Close
