Five aircraft delivered throughout July including two B787s, an A350, an A321LR and an A320ceo
Fleet expansion supports ambitious network growth and passenger targets
Abu Dhabi, UAE – Etihad Airways achieved a significant milestone in its fleet expansion programme with July 2025 becoming the busiest month for aircraft deliveries in the airline's 22-year history. Throughout July, Etihad took delivery of five aircraft including its inaugural A321LR, two Boeing 787 Dreamliners, one Airbus A350-1000, and one Airbus A320ceo.
This record-breaking month demonstrates the airline's commitment to rapid growth as it works towards its target to carry 38 million passengers annually by 2030. The five aircraft will significantly enhance Etihad's capacity across its expanding global network.
Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways, said: "July has been a remarkable month for Etihad Airways. Taking delivery of five aircraft is our most intensive delivery programme to date and showcases our ambitious growth trajectory. These aircraft will enable us to serve more destinations, offer increased frequencies, and deliver the exceptional experiences our guests expect across our network."
The delivery programme reflects Etihad's strategic approach to fleet modernisation, with each aircraft type serving specific network requirements. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner will support long-haul operations to destinations across Asia, Australia, and North America, while the Airbus A350-1000 will enhance capacity on high-demand routes.
A particular highlight of July's deliveries was Etihad's first Airbus A321LR, which represents a significant milestone as the airline's inaugural aircraft of this type. Etihad defines luxury again with a revolutionary cabin configuration to Etihad's narrowbody operations, featuring dedicated First Suites alongside lie-flat Business seats, a first for narrowbody aircraft in the region, and enhanced Economy seating with seatback entertainment - bringing premium in-flight experiences to medium and short-haul routes. The deliveries bring Etihad's total fleet to 106 aircraft. The airline operates one of the world's youngest fleets, with an average aircraft age of 8.7 years, supporting operational efficiency and enhanced passenger experience.
The aircraft deliveries support Etihad's recently announced network expansion, which includes 27 new destinations and increased frequencies across existing routes. The airline has experienced remarkable growth, carrying more than 20 million passengers in the last 12 months for the first time in its history, doubling passenger numbers from 2022 levels.
Etihad's fleet expansion programme continues beyond July, with 20 additional aircraft per annum expected for delivery throughout 2025 and 2026.
By expanding its fleet and network, Etihad Airways is strengthening Abu Dhabi's position as a global aviation hub and offering unparalleled travel experiences to millions of passengers worldwide. For more information, please visit etihad.com

Over a million Dubai residents to benefit from RTA's new Umm Suqeim tunnel

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) have opened an 800-metre tunnel with four lanes in each direction, as part of the Umm Suqeim Street Development Project, which will serve residential and development areas with a population exceeding one million. This extends from the intersection with Al Khail Road to the intersection with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and will reduce travel time from 9.7 minutes to 3.8 minutes – almost 61 per cent – and increases the capacity of Umm Suqeim Street to 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions. Key RTA project Mattar Al Tayer, Director General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA: 'The project enhances connectivity between four strategic corridors in Dubai: Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Khail Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and Emirates Road. 'It increases the capacity of Umm Suqeim Street to 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions and reduces travel time between Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Al Khail Road by 61 per cent, from 9.7 minutes to 3.8 minutes.' The project serves residential and development zones, including Al Barsha South 1, 2, and 3, Dubai Hills, Arjan, and Dubai Science Park, with a total population exceeding one million residents. 'Umm Suqeim-Al Qudra Corridor Improvement Project is one of RTA's key strategic transverse (east-west) traffic corridors, designed to enhance integration with vertical (north-south) road corridors,' Al Tayer said. RTA's use of advanced technology RTA used advanced technology in project monitoring, including drones, which were used to analyse construction data using artificial intelligence, enhancing operational efficiency on-site, accelerating decision-making, and providing real-time, highly accurate information. Gold jewellery demand dips among UAE shoppers as 22K prices cross Dh370 mark

Shoppers in the UAE are becoming increasingly hesitant to buy gold jewellery, particularly when 22-carat gold prices exceed the Dh370-per-gram mark. 'The UAE jewellery market remains incredibly resilient, even in the face of significant price movements. However, no doubt rising gold prices have made consumers more discerning. We've observed a clear increase in price sensitivity, especially when rates hover around or exceed psychological thresholds, like Dh370 per gram for 22K,' said Aditya Singh, head of International Jewellery Business at Titan Company, Tanishq. Jewellers across the country confirm this shift in consumer behaviour. While price-consciousness is rising, many buyers are slowly adjusting to the new price range. Currently, most purchases are being made by investors expecting further price hikes, or by residents shopping for essential occasions such as weddings. 'Casual shopping for gold jewellery is very minimal,' said one gold jeweller. This year, gold prices have reached unprecedented levels, with global rates peaking at $3,500 per ounce and 24K gold hitting Dh420 per gram in Dubai. On Sunday, spot gold closed at $3,363 per ounce globally, marking a 1.97 per cent increase. In the UAE, 24K gold was trading at Dh405.25 per gram. Meanwhile, 22K, 21K, and 18K were priced at Dh375.25, Dh360.00, and Dh308.50 per gram, respectively. The rally in gold prices is attributed to ongoing geopolitical tensions, strong central bank demand, and recent tariff wars. As previously reported by Khaleej Times, Dh400 per gram has become the new standard for 24K gold. Over the past year alone, gold prices have surged by an impressive Dh100 per gram. Despite the rising prices, Singh notes that this doesn't always deter buyers. "What we're seeing is more of a shift in how and why people buy. Purchases today are more value-driven, with customers actively seeking promotions, reducing making charges or even shifting temporarily toward diamond or semi-precious jewellery where discounts are deeper," he said. "At the same time, there's a growing segment of consumers, both residents and tourists, who continue to view gold as a long-term store of value, and are willing to buy when the design, brand or occasion justifies it," Singh added. This trend is echoed in the latest World Gold Council report for Q2 2025, which indicated a noticeable shift in consumer behaviour. More UAE residents are now opting to invest in gold coins and bars, while cutting back on jewellery purchases.

ABU DHABI WORLD GRAPPLING CHAMPIONSHIP IS A BOOST FOR AL AIN REGION'S LONG-TERM GROWTH VISION

The inaugural Abu Dhabi World Grappling Championship 2025, currently underway at ADNEC Centre Al Ain, marks a significant milestone in Abu Dhabi's mission to establish itself as a global hub for combat sports. The three-day event, organised by International Vision Sports Management (IVSM), runs until August 3 and brings together more than 1,000 athletes from over 60 countries to Al Ain Region. Held in partnership with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) and under the banner of Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro (AJP), the championship reflects a long-term strategy to position Al Ain Region as a destination where sport, culture, and community converge. Saeed AL Dhaheri, Destination Management Department Director at the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, said, spoke at the event, highlighting the broader vision behind hosting such championships in the Al Ain Region. 'This type of championship has quickly evolved into one of the fastest-growing global events. With renowned champions participating, Abu Dhabi is now firmly on the international map for combat sports. 'Hosting these tournaments in Al Ain Region supports a clear strategy by DCT Abu Dhabi to develop, promote, and market sporting events that contribute to the region's identity,' he added. As Abu Dhabi continues to enhance its reputation in martial arts, highlighting the Al Ain Region represents a deliberate step toward inclusive regional development. The championship is not only a showcase of world-class athleticism but also a platform that supports broader tourism, community engagement, and economic objectives. This year's event marks the second successful collaboration between DCT Abu Dhabi and IVSM in Al Ain Region. Al Dhaheri expressed pride in the partnership and its growing contribution to the emirate's sports tourism landscape. 'This is a partnership we are proud of. By bringing global champions to Abu Dhabi and Al Ain Region, we are enhancing the international profile of both destinations and reinforcing their appeal to sports fans and tourists alike,' Al Dhaheri continued. The championship also brings renewed attention to the unique character of Al Ain Region. Often referred to as the 'Garden City' of the UAE, it is home to Jebel Hafeet, one of the country's highest peaks, six desert palm oases, and a rich history dating back nearly 5,000 years. Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the city blends natural beauty with cultural heritage, making it an ideal host for events that celebrate discipline, tradition, and excellence. With its blend of world-class competition, cultural resonance, and strategic vision, the Abu Dhabi World Grappling Championship 2025 sets the stage for a powerful new chapter in the emirate's sporting journey.
