Snooker legend Jimmy White set for new job at 63 as icon rolls back the years
Jimmy White will always be known for his quality on the baize, but the snooker star is about to embark on a new project in a different world Snooker icon Jimmy White is set to star in a new TV crime drama. The 63-year-old is enjoying a successful start to the 2025/26 snooker season. White kicked off the season with a 5-2 victory over Anthony McGill in his Wuhan Open qualifier, which secured him a spot in the last 64 of the Chinese competition. He will be in the hat for the tournament, which begins on August 24, where the winner will take home a cheque for £140,000. Although his chances of winning the event will be slim, the fact that 'the Whirlwind,' who turned professional in 1980, is still performing well at the highest level of snooker is impressive. However, White is about to embark on a brand new venture that could potentially turn into another lucrative career beyond the baize. He recently landed a cameo role in the upcoming TV adaptation of Write To Kill, written by top-selling London author David P. Perlmutter. The series revolves around an aspiring author who is burdened with debt and writer's block, before being offered a large sum of money to commit a 'heinous crime'. According to Deadline, White will portray the director of an estate agency who fittingly has the task of sacking the main character in a snooker hall. The official synopsis of the 2019 published book reads: "Caught up in the machinations of the underworld and at the mercy of a London gangland boss, Mad Dog, will this budding writer accept the money, commit the crime, and leave his innocence behind him?" The project is still in the works and is set to be filmed in London and New York. Confirmed cast members include Charlotte Kirk and Hunger Games' Elena Sanchez, with Lillee Jean Trueman directing. Negotiations are reportedly ongoing for the male lead. Meanwhile, this week, White delivered a stellar performance against former World Championship semi-finalist McGill. The Scot clinched the first frame with a break of 51, but White then turned back time by winning five of the next six at Leicester's Mattioli Arena. With scores of 92, 80, 90 and 71, the seasoned player advanced to the last 64 in August. There, the ex-Masters and UK champion is due to face off against former Grand Prix winner Marco Fu. Like White, Fu is competing on the main circuit courtesy of an invitational wildcard. The Hong Kong player showcased his skills with a 5-3 victory over recent Crucible quarter-finalist Chris Wakelin. It's a huge test for White, who is showing no sign that he is going to put his cue down for good any time soon. In February, White told the Stephen Hendry Cue Tips podcas t that he still has plenty left in the tank. He said: "For me to still be able to play and compete now is like a godsend. "I'm going to play for another three years and if I don't win a tournament, I'm going to stop. I'm 62. People think 'why are you doing it? You're nuts.'"

Naga was also alleged to have used a slang term for a sexual act off-air. It comes after Breakfast's editor Richard Frediani has now taken leave amid separate bullying claims. Naga is said to have used a crude slang term for a sex act during an off-air break — before asking a colleague if they had done it. The alleged remark stunned the Radio 5 Live studio and led to Naga being hauled before bosses. She was reprimanded by a senior producer but no formal action was taken. A source said: 'Breakfast is no longer just divided, it's been ripped apart. "Some workers back Frediani's tougher, more traditional journalistic approach and think the 'softies' need thicker skin. 'Others find him to be a bully and have welcomed the investigation into his behaviour. Watch Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt's most awkward moments on BBC Breakfast as tensions spiral "That already created two camps on the show. But the revelations about Naga have thrown a new twist on the scandal. 'Some find her a passionate advocate of people behind the scenes, while others find her as difficult as Fredi. 'This explosive mix has led to a deluge of revelations from both sides, creating a huge headache for the BBC as it scrambles to mop up the mess. It's everyone for themselves like the Hunger Games.'

MOVIE REVIEW: We decide if video game adaptation 'Until Dawn' is worth spending a night with
Director hindered by basic premise that makes it hard to root for lead quintet. Let me preface this review by saying I have never played the Until Dawn video game - and know nothing about it. As a result, I am the wrong person to say if this is an accurate adaptation, and can only judge it as a movie on its own merits. Doing so, Until Dawn comes across as an amalgamation of Happy Death Day, Silent Hill and Cabin in the Woods - but can't match any of them for quality. We follow a group of friends who end up trapped in a time loop, where mysterious forces chase and kill them in gruesome ways, and they must survive until dawn to escape it. Although director David F. Sandberg has spent the past few years helming the Shazam flicks, he has a laudable background in horror ( Annabelle: Creation and Lights Out). He does his best to make Until Dawn a worthwhile experience by utilising darkness-shrouded locations, a myriad of monstrous antagonists and several blood-soaked kills. But he is hindered by the basic premise as it's hard to care when his characters perish given the fact they get many other lives to spurn before their ultimate demise. While Gary Dauberman and Blair Butler's script includes some knowing nods and jokes, events are largely played straight, which does the film no favours as the young cast can't project the pathos their plight demands. Ella Rubin's committed Clover is fairly endearing, and has the closest thing to character development with her search for missing sister Melanie (Maia Mitchell). The rest of the lead quintet just fill generic roles, especially Michael Cimino as lovesick Max and Belmont Cameli as smart-mouthed douchebag Abe. Peter Stormare ( Dr Hill) brings his trademark weird but doesn't feature enough to make an impression. And after everything the protagonists endure the climax is firmly in 'is that it!?' territory. Whether it's a faithful adaptation of its video game source material or not, Until Dawn is by-the-numbers horror you should think twice about spending the night with. ● Do you have any favourite films based on video games? ● Until Dawn is available to buy or rent on Sky Store. *Don't miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire.
