USA Today10 hours ago
Summer is here, and it is everyone's favorite time of the year, scouting time. Every year, we do Summer Scouting to preview college football for Bucs fans, but also give them an idea of names to follow and watch in the fall as needs pop up for Tampa Bay.
Are we going to write about quarterbacks? You know it, but why? Because other NFL teams will draft them, just as they will draft every other position. It all matters whether these players end up on the Bucs, the Bears, or the Steelers. We write these so Bucs fans can be the most informed fans.
So if you are still with us, enjoy our latest Summer Scouting report as we prepare you for the Fall.

Joshua Braun has made his way around the SEC, but he has proven that he more than belongs among the conference's talent. Braun has good athleticism to pull when asked to and can be a lead blocker for a running back. He has a good base and balance to handle defenders who either blitz or collide with him in the open field. All in all, Braun has some tools to work with, but being in one consistent program is needed for him to take the next step truly, I think it is possible given his athletic style and build.

Caleb Hays, Todd Stephens Named Head Starters At Kentucky Tracks

Caleb Hays, Todd Stephens Named Head Starters At Kentucky Tracks originally appeared on Paulick Report. Two longtime gate crew veterans with decades of experience were recently appointed to head starter positions at Kentucky racetracks. Caleb Hays has been named head starter at Churchill Downs and Turfway Park, while Todd Stephens will serve as the head starter at Ellis Park. Advertisement Hays, a fixture at Churchill Downs for nearly two decades, officially takes over the starting gate duties after being named interim starter during the Spring Meet. Hays has worked on the gate for 19 years, including the past 17 at Churchill Downs. He began his career at River Downs under Mark Harring and has since worked under a respected group of starters, including 'Spec' Alexander, Scott Jordan and Jeff Powell. During his time on the gate, Hays has handled some marquee horses, including Kentucky Derby winners Nyquist and Mystik Dan. He is the son of the late Danton 'Danny' Hays, a widely respected horseman and former assistant starter. 'It's a great honor to step into this role at Churchill Downs and Turfway,' Hays said. 'I've been fortunate to work under some of the best in the business and I'm proud to follow in their footsteps.' Ben Huffman, vice president of racing for Churchill Downs, added: 'Caleb has earned this opportunity through years of steady leadership and respect from his peers. He brings integrity, character and a calm presence that's critical for a position like this. We're confident he'll continue the high standards that define our starting gate.' Advertisement Meanwhile at Ellis Park, Stephens takes over head starter duties for the 2025 summer meet after more than 25 years on the gate in California. Stephens spent the bulk of his career at Golden Gate Fields and previously worked at Bay Meadows before its closure in 2008. 'Todd brings a wealth of experience during his time in the Upper Northwest,' said Baley Hare, Ellis Park racing secretary. 'He'll be a big asset to our racing program.' Both Hays and Stephens start their new roles immediately. This story was originally reported by Paulick Report on Jul 4, 2025, where it first appeared.

Kentucky Basketball Reacts to First NBA Draft Class Under Mark Pope

Kentucky Basketball Reacts to First NBA Draft Class Under Mark Pope originally appeared on Athlon Sports. When it comes to turning college players into NBA stars, few schools do it quite like Kentucky. Just look around the league. You don't have to squint to spot a former Wildcat lighting it up on the biggest stage. Reigning MVP and champ Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is the perfect example of that Wildcat pipeline paying off. Advertisement But Kentucky's legacy isn't just about the past; it's alive and well under Mark Pope. This year's draft was his first shot at keeping that tradition going, and let's just say five new names heading to the league is one heck of a statement. The Wildcats took to X to flex their players who recently turned pro. 'NBA Class of 2025,' the caption read. Koby Brea was Kentucky's go-to shooter last season, and his smooth stroke is exactly what today's NBA teams love. The Phoenix Suns clearly thought so, too, that they snapped him up with the 41st pick in the second round, making him the highest-drafted Wildcat this year. He'll probably come off the bench at first but could carve out a nice role in their rotation. Advertisement Then there's Amari Williams, who went 46th overall to the Celtics. Boston needs some extra size, so he might get more minutes than people expect right out of the gate. As for the other guys, Lamont Butler didn't hear his name on draft night, but he landed a two-way deal with the Hawks, which means he'll bounce between the G-League and Atlanta's roster this year. Kentucky Wildcats guard Koby Brea (4) reacts after defeating the Illinois Fighting Illini in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at Fiserv Sieu-Imagn Images Andrew Carr and Jaxson Robinson also went undrafted but both picked up Exhibit 10 deals Carr with the Trail Blazers and Robinson with the Cavs. They'll probably spend most of their time with each team's G-League affiliate but have a chance to work their way up. Sovereignty Pleases In Breeze For Jim Dandy

Sovereignty Pleases In Breeze For Jim Dandy originally appeared on Paulick Report. Kentucky Derby (G1) and Belmont (G1) winner Sovereignty breezed a half-mile in 48.99 seconds over Saratoga's Oklahoma training track Friday in preparation for an planned start in the $500,000 Jim Dandy (G2) July 26 at the Spa. Advertisement With usual exercise rider Neil Poznansky aboard, Sovereignty started about a length in front of workmate Jefferson Street, going his first quarter in 24.56 seconds, Daily Racing Form reports. Jefferson Street went to the outside Sovereignty heading into the stretch and Sovereignty finished in 24.12 seconds, about a length in front of his workmate at the wire. Friday's tune-up followed Sovereignty's lone half mile breeze June 27 in a slower :50.85 on the Oklahoma training track. 'I didn't want them head and head because they're going to go too fast,' said trainer Bill Mott told the Form about Friday's breeze. 'I didn't want the other horse joining him until they turned into the stretch, I just wanted something for him to finish with. I just figured he had one easy one, just pick it up a little bit today.' Godolphin's homebred Sovereignty, an Into Mischief colt, could have two more breezes prior to his expected start in the Jim Dandy, a springboard to the $1.25-million Travers (G1) Aug. 23 at Saratoga. Advertisement Baeza, third in both the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes, worked six furlongs in 1:11.20 at Santa Anita on Friday morning. Trainer John Shirreffs has previously said he is targeting the Jim Dandy and Travers. Others possible for the Jim Dandy are Arkansas Derby (G1) winner Sandman, and Peter Pan (G3) winner Hill Road. Also on Friday's work tab at Saratoga was Metropolitan Handicap (G1) runner-up and Whitney (G1) hopeful Fierceness, who breezed a half-mile in 48.72 seconds over Saratoga's main track.
