In collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation launches ‘KnowTalks' series 2025
Dubai, United Arab Emirates, March 2025- The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), launched the 2025 edition of the 'KnowTalks' series to enhance the production, dissemination, and sustainability of knowledge. Building on the success of the Knowledge Summit, the region's premier knowledge event organized annually by the MBRF and the UNDP, the series serves as a platform for distinguished thought leaders, decision-makers, and experts to address key developmental and knowledge-related issues and explore innovative solutions for current and future challenges.
The series bridges cultural divides across various fields, fostering conversations on key themes shaping the global knowledge landscape. Topics include the role of advanced technologies in driving community development, strategies for closing the knowledge gap across regions, and the influence of artificial intelligence (AI) on the future of sectors such as healthcare, education, and the digital economy.
Other topics examine the significance of knowledge in establishing the foundations for an innovation-driven economy, the impact of big data analysis on shaping development policies, and strategies for skill development to address the future needs of the labor market in a continuously evolving global technological landscape.
The 2025 'KnowTalks' edition will feature 35 local and international sessions in hybrid formats that combine in-person and virtual participation, enhancing accessibility and fostering global engagement. The series will also feature sessions hosted as part of prominent knowledge events, including the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair and the Frankfurt Book Fair. Furthermore, special sessions will take place at leading universities and research centers worldwide, ensuring the involvement of academic communities, students, and innovators.

The first session of the series recently took place under the theme 'From Boomers to Gen Z: Driving Innovation Together,' presented by Maysoun Ramadan, Global Head of Patients and Society Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and Chief Diversity Officer for APAC at Roche. This session explored how to leverage intergenerational diversity to drive innovation and collaboration across various sectors, particularly in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM). Key discussion points included the role of inclusion in strengthening communities, bridging generational perspectives within STEAM, and utilizing generational diversity to enhance creativity and workplace culture. The session also listed the unique characteristics of different generations shaped by historical and cultural influences and included insights from Ipsos' 2023 report on generational diversity in the UAE.
Furthermore, the session highlighted generational diversity within the UAE's population, as outlined in the 2024 report by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA). According to this report, Generation Alpha accounts for 16.43 percent of the total population in the UAE, while Generation Z represents 13.46 percent, Baby Boomers make up 5.29 percent, and the Silent Generation, along with older Boomers, constitute 1.7 percent.
The session underscored the significance of multi-generational teams in fostering creativity and innovation. It also highlighted the advantages of reverse mentoring in bridging generational gaps through mutual learning and emphasized that generational diversity is a valuable asset for promoting innovation and collaboration across sectors and societies.
The 'KnowTalks' series consists of intellectual sessions and seminars where experts gather to discuss key challenges, uncover untapped opportunities, and share global insights. Sessions take place at least once a month and are available as recordings on the digital platforms of MBRF and UNDP, providing public access to past discussions. The series also encourages interactive engagement, enabling participants to engage with experts, ask questions, and contribute ideas, thereby fostering meaningful dialogue and assisting in the development of comprehensive solutions.

As part of its commitment to empowering 10 million Arab learners with job market skills by 2030 The Future Skills Academy, one of the pioneering initiatives of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in collaboration with Coursera, has recorded significant engagement and promising results in its first phase. This marks a strong start towards its mission to empower Arab learners with future-ready job market skills. The wide interaction received by the academy in its first phase underscores the growing demand for individuals to develop digital and vocational skills in the Arab world. As part of its ambitious goal, the academy aims to enable 10 million learners in the Arab region to acquire the most in-demand job market skills by 2030, targeting 25,000 learners in 2025. It offers curated courses in high-demand fields such as data analysis, artificial intelligence, digital marketing, and entrepreneurship, in addition to developing transferable skills. Within one month of its launch, the academy witnessed a surge of interest from thousands of learners across various Arab countries. Learners completed 4,721 courses, viewed more than 191,419 educational videos, read more than 126,136 educational materials, and completed over 108,568 assessments, totaling 45,385 hours of effective learning. Dr. Abdullah Al Dardari, UN Assistant Secretary-General and Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Arab States (UNDP), said: 'According to the World Economic Forum's Future of Jobs Report 2025, nearly 59% of the global workforce, including Arab graduates, young people, women, and marginalized groups, will require training and skills development within the next five years. With 39% of basic job market skills projected to change by 2030, the necessity to strengthen educational and vocational reskilling programs to prepare future generations for the changing requirements within the labor market is critical.' He continued: 'The Future Skills Academy is a strategic response to these shifting dynamics in the Arab region. By empowering 10 million Arab learners, including young graduates, with future skills by 2030, our academy contributes to economic recovery, enhances prosperity, and supports sustainable development through inclusive, future-focused education. With a focus on continuous learning, we seek to bridge basic skills gaps and unlock the potential of Arab talent to lead innovation.' The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF) launched a training workshop titled 'Book Criticism Workshop,' which will be held in Jordan under the Dubai International Program for Writing (DIPW), one of MBRF's flagship initiatives. The workshop aligns with DIPW's objective to nurture Arab talents, refine their skills, and prepare them to actively develop and disseminate knowledge. The key goal of the workshop is to develop participants' capabilities, further enhancing their reading and writing proficiency in literary narration and criticism. The workshop has been designed to equip talents with tools to master four levels of reading: elementary, inspectional, analytical, and Syntopical reading. Furthermore, the workshop aims to refine participants' writing performance across diverse forms, from artistic summaries and book reviews to article and report writing, while guiding them in preparing study outlines, drafting research papers, and authoring books using a methodical and well-structured approach. Dr. Jamal Maqableh, workshop instructor and professor of Arabic literature and criticism at the Hashemite University in Jordan, said: 'This motivational workshop is a part of MBRF's constant efforts to empower and support literature enthusiasts. It offers the younger generation an exceptional opportunity to develop their skills and broaden their intellectual horizons, which will further enable them to reach higher level of skill and creativity. In addition to offering a set of useful tools and techniques, the workshop provides an opportunity to interact with authors, writers, and literary figures and gain insights from their experience and knowledge, which will help them better differentiate between different literary forms, genres, and fields as well as different levels, styles, and orientations of writers.' This edition of the workshop is unique in incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) tools such as ChatGPT and DeepSeek, which are now prominent for their capability to accelerate recall, documentation, and text generation, despite these technologies' inability to perform deep critical analysis. These tools help reduce workload by managing a significant portion of preliminary tasks, enabling researchers to work at a more advanced level. This ensures that investing in these capabilities can redefine the boundaries of intellectual creativity in the AI era. The workshop encompasses reading books, presentations, discussions, debates, follow-ups, and viewing and listening to relevant recordings. Moreover, it aims to equip participants with the requisite skills for deep reading and precise writing through an integrated training regimen that progresses through successive stages, from comprehension to critical evaluation. Additionally, the workshop focuses on training participants in diverse critical methodologies, including classical criticism and contemporary movements, as well as expanding the study of literary theory, the philosophy of criticism, and its multiple applications. In addition, the workshop provides participants with exceptional opportunities to hone their skills in text summarization and analysis, as well as in writing articles, reports, critical reviews, and research proposals, while adhering to linguistic, stylistic, and organizational standards.
