National Thoroughbred League Continues Record-Breaking Streak at Fairmount Park
The league's newest team, the St. Louis Nellies, who recently moved from Seatle after native son Nelly took an increased ownership stake in the franchise, won the very first race, thanks to a stirring win by Sassy and Bold. The overall Nelly Cup, determined by the accumulated points total over the three NTL races, was won by the New York Knights, who had a winner in Busk, and who extended their season-long lead in the standings.
'The opportunity to host the NTL this past weekend was wonderful for Fairmount Park and our loyal and exuberant fan base,' said Vince Gabbert, General Manager at Fairmount Park, which is undergoing a $100 million expansion and renovation. 'It signifies optimism for the racing product that will continue to work hand in hand-with-a first-class gaming operation. We look forward to serving as an NTL host site for many years to come.'
Besides the on-track competition, the afternoon-long event featured numerous activities, including a fan fashion show, an on-track kids race featuring inflatable horses, NFL player meet-and-greets, a VIP afterparty at Fairmount's brand-new trackside bar, Longshots, and DJ performances, hosted by Jarobi White, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member of A Tribe Called Quest and a co-owner of the Miami Thunderbolts.
'This event again demonstrates the power of the 'NTL Effect',' said NTL cofounder Randall Lane, referring to the surges in attendance and betting when the league hosts at a track. 'We were blown away by the response in St. Louis, both the numbers and the enthusiasm of the crowd.'
The NTL finishes its third season next month, when it will host the Nashville Cup at Kentucky Downs. That event, hosted by Country Music Hall of Famer Tanya Tucker, anticipates total purses that will approach $2 million as it crowns its overall champion.

Simms and the Grateful Dead Announce Dead on the Water
BOZEMAN, Mont.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Simms Fishing Products, the preeminent manufacturer of waders, outerwear, footwear, and technical fishing apparel and a Revelyst brand, is proud to announce the launch of Dead on the Water, an all-new campaign encompassing a limited-edition product collection in collaboration with the Grateful Dead. At its surface, it's a line of technical and lifestyle pieces—T-shirts, hats, sun hoodies, and a special limited-edition G3 Guide Wader —but at its core, it's something deeper. 'This collaboration was born from feeling, not formulas. Fishing and music are both immersive experiences. They quiet the noise. They shift your focus from the outside world to the present moment." Share Some things don't need to be explained—they just feel right. The flow of water, the pulse of great music in an idyllic setting, and the way time seems to stretch and dissolve when you're deep in either one. That's where Simms and the Grateful Dead meet. In essence, music and fishing ask the same thing of us—presence, surrender, and the willingness to embrace what comes next. 'This collaboration was born from feeling, not formulas,' said Head of Simms, Ben Christensen 'Fishing and music are both immersive experiences. They quiet the noise. They shift your focus from the outside world to the present moment. Dead on the Water is our effort to capture this state of mind and an invitation to our community to join us on this long, strange trip.' For decades, the music of the Grateful Dead has echoed across rivers, drift boats, and streamside hangs—the unofficial soundtrack of the angler's pursuit. Improvisational, raw, and emotional—it mirrors the experience of fishing itself. No two days, no two casts, no two moments ever the same. You don't control it—you accept, enjoy, and immerse yourself into it. That spirit is present and alive in every piece of Simms' collaboration with the Grateful Dead. It's the melodic meander of a float down your home river. It's the wader built by hand, heart, and soul in Bozeman, Montana. And it's the belief that gear, like music, can do more than just perform—it can move you. 'What we're tapping into is that egoless state both artists and anglers chase—a place where instinct takes over and connection becomes everything,' added Christensen. 'For the Dead, it was the music. For us, it's the river. But the reward is the same—you get lost in the moment, and that's where the magic lives.' The centerpiece of the collection is the GD Guide Wader. Made in Bozeman, Montana, the GD Guide Wader is based on Simms' renowned and multi-award winning G3 platform and trimmed with Grateful Dead-inspired detailing. Around it orbits a collection of gear that's both river-ready and speaks the angling lifestyle: classic and technical headwear, cotton tees, and limited-edition sun hoodies designed to keep the good times rolling, from the water to wherever the current leads. At first glance, the collaboration may seem unexpected. But once you feel it, it's undeniable. One brand known for performance and craft. The other for culture and connection. Together, they speak to something both soulful and universal — the pursuit of moments that move us. With Dead on the Water, Simms steps beyond category silos and deeper into culture, reminding the world that fishing is more than a sport and/or pastime — it's a state of mind. And it belongs right alongside the music, art, and freedom that shape our lives. The Simms x Grateful Dead: Dead on the Water Collection will be available in limited quantities at and select retailers beginning August 1, 2025. A New Wave of Wonder: The Florida Aquarium Unveils The Tide Pool
TAMPA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--From the icy waters of the Pacific Northwest to the heart of Tampa Bay, a new adventure awaits. Today, The Florida Aquarium celebrated the grand opening of The Tide Pool — one of the only cold-water touch habitats on Florida's west coast. The Tide Pool is a 60-foot-long, 4,000-gallon, cold-water touch habitat that invites guests to discover, touch, and connect with more than 200 marine invertebrates —quadrupling the animals from the previous No Bone Zone exhibit. Kept at a cool 50 degrees to replicate Pacific Northwest coastal waters, this immersive exhibit offers visitors the opportunity to feel the texture of a red bat star, check out the striking colors of the ochre sea star, and watch the spot prawns in action—all in an environment that looks and sounds like a Pacific coastline. ' The Tide Pool is a spectacular new addition that brings the spirit of discovery to life,' said Roger Germann, President & CEO of The Florida Aquarium. 'For the past 30 years, we've inspired people to care about marine life. With The Tide Pool, we're creating a rare opportunity to interact with incredible cold-water species not found in Florida—offering the kind of hands-on experience that ignites curiosity and can spark a lifelong commitment to conservation, especially in our youngest visitors.' CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD BROADCAST QUALITY VIDEO & SOUND + PHOTOS OF THE TIDE POOL & ANIMALS Courtesy: The Florida Aquarium Built in six expansive segments and featuring a state-of-the-art wave action system, the exhibit delivers a multi-sensory experience. Projected wave effects and a 16-channel surround sound system bring the tide to life with the roar of crashing surf and the calls of seabirds. A custom mural by artist Curtis Stokes shifts from sunset to starlight and sunrise under UV-reactive lighting, creating a stunning, ever-changing backdrop for exploration. 'Every element of The Tide Pool is designed to immerse our guests in the diversity and resilience of life in these coastal habitats,' said Tim Binder, Senior Vice President of Animal Care & Health at The Florida Aquarium. 'It's a rare opportunity for our community to engage directly with cold-water marine life and gain a deeper appreciation for their unique adaptations—sparking both curiosity and a lasting commitment to ocean conservation.' Meet Some of The Tide Pool's Animals Green Surf Anemone: a vibrant green anemone with tentacles that capture small fish in cold, wave-swept waters. Red Bat Star: a colorful sea star with five to nine arms, each covered in tiny pincers for feeding. Ochre Sea Star: an iconic intertidal species found along the Pacific coast, known for its striking orange or purple hues. Spot Prawn: a deep-water shrimp species valued for its beauty and important role in the food web. Black-Eyed Hermit Crab: a hardy crustacean that carries its home on its back and scavenges along the seafloor. The Tide Pool Key Highlights Part of a Bold Vision for Tampa Bay The Tide Pool is the latest milestone in The Florida Aquarium's historic $45 million expansion, following the opening of the MORPH'D gallery presented by PAR in 2023. Upcoming plans include the arrival of puffins in late 2026-early 2027, and the debut of a California sea lion habitat, the first of its kind on Florida's west coast, along with a new habitat for the African penguins, both in late 2027-early 2028. These expansion plans are made possible through community support, including a $15 million Community Redevelopment Area (CRA) investment and The Tide Pool exhibit supporters Robert R. Sharp & Family and Marvin L. & Betsy Holloway. Together, they are helping The Florida Aquarium elevate its shared purpose through conservation, education, and world-class animal care. Class Action Lawsuit Against the NCAA on Behalf of Division I Volunteer Coaches
MILWAUKEE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The following is being released by A.B. Data, Ltd., the Notice Administrator for the Ray v. NCAA class action lawsuit. Legal Notice Did You Work as a Volunteer Coach in an NCAA Division I Athletics Program in a Sport Other Than Baseball Between March 17, 2019 and June 30, 2023? You Could Be Part of a Class Action Lawsuit. Records show you could be affected by a class action lawsuit against the National Collegiate Athletic Association ('NCAA'). The Court decided that this lawsuit should be a class action on behalf of a 'Class,' or group of people, that could include you. The Court has not decided who is right. There is no money available now and no guarantee there will be. What is this case about? The lawsuit claims that certain NCAA rules that prohibited schools from paying wages, salaries, or benefits to Division I athletics coaches in sports other than baseball who were designated as 'volunteer coaches' were anticompetitive. NCAA denies these claims and that it did anything wrong. The lawyers for the Class will have to prove their claims in Court. Are you included? You may be included in the lawsuit if you worked as a 'volunteer coach' for any NCAA Division I sports program other than baseball, any time between March 17, 2019 to June 30, 2023. Who represents the Class? The Court has appointed a group of attorneys to represent the Class as 'Co-Lead Counsel.' You don't have to pay Co-lead Counsel or anyone else to participate. Instead, if Co-Lead Counsel get money or benefits for the Class, they will ask the Court for attorneys' fees and costs. Any fees and costs would be deducted from any money obtained or paid separately by the NCAA. You may hire your own lawyer to appear in Court for you, but if you do, you have to pay that lawyer. What are your options? To stay in the Class, you do not have to do anything. If money or benefits are obtained, you will be notified about how to ask for a share. If you want to keep your rights to sue the NCAA on your own about the claims in this lawsuit, you need to exclude yourself. If you exclude yourself, you cannot get money or benefits from this lawsuit if any are awarded. You can find out how to exclude yourself at the website or by calling the toll-free number. The deadline to exclude yourself is October 1, 2025.
