Updated Knicks next head coach odds has Jason Kidd as clear favorite
Odds, they are a movin'.
DraftKings Sportsbook has updated its latest odds of who will be the Knicks' next coach and Jason Kidd is now the betting favorite.
The Post confirmed Monday there is mutual interest between the Knicks and Kidd and that appears to have resulted in the Mavericks' coach moving to -180 favorite status after not even being on the board at open.
Former Nuggets coach Michael Malone had previously been the favorite at +125 odds, but has fallen dramatically to +850.
Cavaliers' assistant head coach Johnnie Bryant is the second-favorite to be the Knicks' coach at +180 odds.

The Knicks hiring Kidd would need approval from the Mavericks, as Kidd would have to be let out of his contract with Dallas.
Trade compensation would likely facilitate such a move, assuming the Mavericks don't want to lose their star coach for nothing.
Johnnie Bryant was formerly a Knicks assistant before he left for the Cavaliers.

Kidd led the Mavericks to the NBA Finals in 2024 before the team traded Luka Doncic midseason and the season went off the racks.
The Mavericks then won NBA Draft lottery despite going 39-43, giving them the the right to draft projected top pick Cooper Flagg.
Former Villanova coach Jay Wright is no longer a candidate for the position, while UConn coach Dan Hurley indicated he will be remaining in Storrs.

The new-look coaching staff for the New York Knicks is starting to come to fruition, with the team close to making another new addition on Sunday. Mike Brown is obviously the biggest change to the coaching staff. He was hired on July 2 to replace Tom Thibodeau. Since then, he has begun the process of filling out the rest of his staff. Per ESPN's Frank Isola, Charlotte Hornets assistant coach Chris Jent has become a leading candidate to join Mike Brown's staff. Jent recently coached the Hornets' Summer League squad to the championship this summer. Jent has been in the coaching realm since 2003. He has spent time as an assistant with the Philadelphia 76ers, Orlando Magic, Cleveland Cavaliers, Sacramento Kings, Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Lakers and the Hornets in the NBA, and for Ohio State in the NCAA. He was an assistant to Mike Brown from 2006-2009 in Cleveland. Jent has very brief head coaching experience in the NBA, filling in as an interim for the Magic in the 2004-05 season. Jent led the Magic to a 5-13 record in 18 games as head coach. Oddly enough, Jent also has incredibly brief experience with the Knicks as an NBA player. In the 1996-97 season, Jent appeared in three games with New York, averaging 2.0 points per game. If hired, Jent will join Rick Brunson and Brendan O'Connor while the remainder of the staff is filled out before the season begins. The expectation is that Jent would take over an offensive coordinator role of sorts if he is in fact brought in.

New York and New Jersey wrestling fans seemed ready to lay the smackdown on Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton, and the Pacers star was more than happy to play the heel during SummerSlam at MetLife Stadium on Sunday. Haliburton, a noted wrestling aficionado, was in the building for the second night of the WWE event taking place in the Meadowlands, even though he's recovering from surgery that repaired a torn Achilles tendon. He has become a villain in the eyes of many New York sports fans due to the rivalry between the Knicks and Indiana, and he was greeted with that energy when he was shown on the video board inside MetLife Stadium. Mavericks' Dereck Lively II wants to help Cooper Flagg in his rookie year
Dereck Lively II is only two years into his career with the Dallas Mavericks, but the former NBA All-Rookie selection wants to help mentor No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg. Flagg was the AP national college player of the year after leading Duke to the Final Four, averaging 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks on 38.5% shooting from 3-point range. He became the 22nd player in program history to be a consensus first-team All-American. The 18-year-old is viewed as a generational prospect on the court and enters next season with tremendous hype after establishing himself as the face of college basketball. Lively was ecstatic that the organization got him as a former Duke alum and is eager to help him. "We welcome in Coop with open arms," Lively said Sunday at his basketball camp, via Christian Clark of The Athletic. "I called him earlier today. He is always having a smile on his face or is cracking a joke. I'm making sure that he is feeling as comfortable as possible, giving him any little detail or any little thing to get him by, because whenever I was in his position, I remember how frightened I was, and I was only 19. He is 18." Flagg debuted with the Mavericks last month in the NBA Summer League, averaging 20.5 points, five rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals on 35.7% shooting from the field. He produced 31 points in his second and final appearance on July 12. Mavericks coach Jason Kidd believes Flagg landed in a good situation, with their mixture of established veterans and up-and-coming players like Lively. He believes Flagg can help them win now and will be pushing him on the court every day to maximize his development. Lively has known Flagg for 2-3 years now, given their connection to Duke. He wants to see Flagg enjoy the transition to the next level and is excited to get to work with him. "He has just been the same, smiling, cracking-joke kid as I've always known," Lively said. "I'm glad that he has been able to still be a person and not having too much of the spotlight rain on him. No matter if he is in the gym or coming by the house, he always just has a smile on his face and is being Coop."
