GOF busts smuggling ring, seizes 1.15 mln cigarettes in Pasir Puteh
The early morning operation, conducted under Op Taring Alpha 1, uncovered 1.15 million illicit cigarettes of the 'John JDB' and 'SAAT' brands.
GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid confirmed the seizure, stating the contraband was found inside a vehicle and a container.
The total haul, including the vehicle and container, was valued at RM2.215 million.
Authorities also detained an Indonesian man hiding in a nearby cabin.
The suspect lacked valid identification documents.
All seized items and the individual were handed over to the Pasir Puteh district police for further investigation.
The case is being probed under Section 135(d) of the Customs Act 1967 and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63. – Bernama

MELAKA: Police seized 300 tonnes of aluminium ingots worth about RM2.1 million during a raid on a factory illegally processing used electronic goods (e-waste) at the Bukit Rambai Industrial Area here today. During the 11am operation, which was conducted jointly with the Department of Environment and the Inland Revenue Board, the raiding team also arrested 25 factory workers comprising Chinese, Bangladeshi, and Myanmar nationals, aged between 20 and 45. State police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the illegal factory, which had been operating for the past three months, was uncovered following intelligence gathered by the authorities over the past week. "This factory is believed to have been involved in dismantling and melting electronic components to produce aluminium ingots. "During the raid, 300 aluminium ingots, each weighing one tonne, were seized, with an estimated total value of RM2.1 million. "Raw materials such as remote controls and closed-circuit television (CCTV) components awaiting processing were also confiscated," he said during a press conference at the site today. Dzulkhairi said preliminary investigations showed the factory had allegedly been importing electronic waste from abroad for processing here before re-exporting it to China and other countries. He said further investigations are underway to trace the factory's owner, adding that authorities do not rule out the possibility of links to other companies operating similar illegal activities. The case is being investigated under Section 29(1) of the Minor Offences Act and Section 55(1)(b) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

Travel agency director among two Bangladeshis held for bribing KLIA enforcement officers
KUALA LUMPUR: Two Bangladeshi men, including the director of a Kuala Lumpur-based travel agency, have been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly masterminding a syndicate that facilitated the entry of foreigners by bribing enforcement officers at Terminal 1 of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). Sources said the suspects, both in their 50s, were arrested in an operation conducted in Negri Sembilan between 5pm and 7pm yesterday. "Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects acted as agents for foreign nationals, bribing enforcement officers at the airport to ease the entry process for these individuals at the country's entry points. "The syndicate's modus operandi involved approaching enforcement officers at the airport to engage in 'counter-setting' activities. "The officers involved would then facilitate the immigration clearance process for these foreign nationals," the source said. Both suspects have been remanded for six days starting today until July 20 to assist in investigations into the case. Yesterday, the MACC's Intelligence Division carried out a joint integrated operation known as Op Recruit in Negri Sembilan and Kuala Lumpur. The operation, conducted jointly with the Border Control and Protection Agency and the Immigration Department's Intelligence and Special Operations Division, also involved members of the MACC's elite Anti-Corruption Tactical Squad, following intelligence gathered since early this year. During the raids, the MACC seized three mobile phones and various foreign currencies, including US dollars, Indonesian rupiah, and Bangladeshi taka, with a total value of about RM16,000. According to the source, between January and early this month, the MACC detected 10 transactions amounting to about RM138,000. "Preliminary investigations showed that for each foreigner, enforcement officers were bribed between RM1,800 and RM2,500. "Payments were made in cash through middlemen, typically inside vehicles or at the suspects' residences around Kuala Lumpur and Negri Sembilan," the source added. Meanwhile, MACC Intelligence Division Senior Director Datuk Saiful Ezral Arifin confirmed the arrests when contacted. He said the case is being investigated under Section 16(b) of the MACC Act 2009.

Cops seize illegal e-waste worth RM2.1mil in Melaka
MELAKA: Melaka police have dismantled an illegal electronic waste (e-waste) processing facility at the Bukit Rambai industrial area here believed to be processing foreign waste. Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said approximately 300 tonnes of aluminium ingots, estimated to be worth RM2.1mil were seized during the raid at around 11am on Tuesday (July 15). He said the processed materials were allegedly intended for export to China. DCP Dzulkhairi said the operation followed a week-long surveillance effort conducted in collaboration with the Department of Environment (DOE) and the state Inland Revenue Board. "The same facility was fined for a different offence last year but today (July 15) we found it had resumed operations, this time smelting the e-waste. "We believe the activity has been ongoing for the past three to four months," he said during a press conference at the site today. "This plant had been turned into an illegal transit point for e-waste processing with the materials being refined here before being exported abroad," he said. DCP Dzulkhairi expressed concern that Malaysia continues to be used as a dumping and processing ground for e-waste following strict bans on such activities in several developed countries. "This is why some parties are exploiting the situation, turning Melaka into a hub for disposing of and processing e-waste, which poses serious environmental and public health risks," he said. DCP Dzulkhairi said unprocessed materials, including various electronic components such as remote controls and CCTV cameras, were also confiscated during the raid. He said a total of 25 foreign workers, aged between 20 and 45, were detained during the raid. He added that the case is being investigated under Section 29(1) of the Minor Offences Act and Section 55(1)(b) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
