Arizona Cardinals HC Jonathan Gannon gives update on 3rd-round pick OLB Jordan Burch

Arizona Cardinals HC Jonathan Gannon gives update on 3rd-round pick OLB Jordan Burch Burch has shown off his physical traits and is working in multiple positions and on special teams.
Not much has been said about the Arizona Cardinals' third-round pick this year, outside linebacker Jordan Burch. The attention as been focused on their first two draft picks, defensive lineman Walter Nolen and cornerback Will Johnson.
Burch, who joins a revamped outside linebacker room, is showing versatility in position and in role.
Head coach Jonathan Gannon was asked about Burch before the final practice of mandatory minicamp.
"Really smart, detailed," he said. "We've moved him around a little bit. You see some of the physical traits that we saw on tape, which is one of the reasons we drafted him."
Because he is in a room that includes Josh Sweat, Zaven Collins, BJ Ojulari and Baron Browning, Burch must find a way to contribute than just on defense. Special teams will be important, and he is learning that.
"He's been excellent with learning fourth down as well."
Gannon said Burch's situation is similar to the rest of the rookies.
"Just like all our rookies, he needs to get on the pads, get some live reps and go through some learning experiences, but I'm pleased where he's at right now. He's doing well."

Cardinals training camp: CB Garrett Williams getting work outside

Garrett Williams could become an every-down player with the injury to Star Thomas. The season-ending injury to cornerback Star Thomas V brought a new and exciting wrinkle to the Arizona Cardinals' defense in training camp on Sunday. We might get to see even more from Garrett Williams in 2025, who became one of the better slot cornerbacks in the league last year. With Thomas on injured reserve, Williams is now getting work outside. Williams has played almost exclusively in the slot in the season and a half he has played (he missed the first half of his rookie season recovering from a torn ACL he suffered in his final season at Syracuse), but many have wondered if he could also play and succeed on the outside. If Sunday's practice is a preview of what the regular season will be, Williams will be an every-down player and will play both inside and out. Could this be similar to what happened with Byron Muprhy? Murphy was used almost exclusively as the Cardinals' nickel corner, but injuries forced him to play more outside, where he has flourished. Playing Williams in base downs would give the defense a little more experience on the field. Otherwise, it would be Max Melton, who played less than 600 snaps as a rookie last season, and rookie Will Johnson in base downs. It will be something to watch as training camp continues and the preseason begins. Cardinals training camp: Arizona signs CB Steven Gilmore

The Arizona Cardinals announced some roster moves on Sunday ahead of their practice in front of just season ticket-holders. They placed cornerbacks Star Thomas V and Jaden Davis on injured reserve with knee injuries and added a cornerback with the last name of Gilmore. No, it isn't five-time Pro Bowl and two-time All-Pro cornerback Stephon Gilmore. It is, though, his younger brother, Steven Gilmore. Gilmore is 5-foot-10 and 175 pounds and most recently played in the UFL for the Birmingham Stallions. In 11 games with the Stallions, he had 48 total tackles, 10 pass breakups, one interception and one forced fumble. He entered the league in 2023 as a rookie free agent out of Marshall, signing with the Detroit Lions. He appeared in three games, logging two snaps on defense and 12 on special teams. In his college career at Marshall, he appeared in 61 games at Marshall, recording 200 tackles (seven for loss), 44 pass breakups, nine interceptions, three forced fumbles and 2.5 sacks.
