crashed in the northwestern part of the country in Volyn Oblast on Tuesday (July 22). The crashed jet's pilot ejected and survived, the Ukrainian Air Force said while adding that the accident took place during a training mission.
The area where the Mirage 2000 fighter, supplied by France, crashed is far away from the Russian frontlines. The Russian and Ukrainian forces are battling it out in the eastern and southeastern parts of the country.

The Ukrainian Air Force posted details of the crash on its Telegram channel stating the Mirage 2000 jet faced an equipment failure. "On the evening of July 22, 2025, while performing a flight mission on a Mirage-2000 fighter, aviation equipment failed, which the pilot reported to the flight director," the statement translated by Google from Ukrainian to English read.

Western fighters in Ukrainian Air Force
The French built Mirage 2000, a fourth generation combat aircraft, is the second western fighter with the Ukrainian Air Force after the United States of America-made F-16 Fighting Falcon. However, the F-16s supplied to Ukraine were not by the US, but by its NATO partners - The Netherlands, Denmark and Norway.

The fourth generation fighter, a product of Dassault Aviation, with the Ukrainian Air Force is a single-pilot, multi-role, single-engine combat aircraft. They have nine hard points to carry missiles and bombs along with two 30 mm canons to close aerial combat.

Ukrainian Air Force Mirage 2000 fighters are armed with MBDA Mica air-to-air and Scalp cruise missiles. They can also carry Safran AASM Hammer guided bombs to target Russian military installations and equipment on ground.
Russia, which invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, has claimed that western fighters like F-16 and MIrage 2000 would not have any impact on its war machinery.

'We have referred and will continue to refer all of these documents to the Department of Justice and the FBI,' she said. Judge conducts inspection of boys and girls shelter homes
1 2 Kanpur: District judge Kanpur Nagar, Chavan Prakash on Wednesday conducted a surprise inspection of Government Children Home for Girls Unit-1 Swaroop Nagar, Government Children Home for Girls Unit-2 Nawabganj Khewra, and Government Children Home for Boys Kalyanpur in Kanpur Nagar. The inspections were conducted in compliance with the directions given by the juvenile justice committee of Allahabad high court. Some girls at the Girls Home Unit-1 requested to be sent to their parents' house. The in-charge superintendent informed the district judge that the parents of these girls were not willing to take them home. In response, the district judge instructed the additional district magistrate (Judicial), present during the inspection, to take appropriate action by contacting the parents of the girls and counselling them, so that they could be returned to their homes. During the inspection of Government Children Home Girls Unit-2, the institution was found to be adequately clean. When asked about the food, the superintendent stated that the girls were provided with sweet porridge and tea for breakfast and roti, rice, potato-gram mixed vegetable, arhar dal, and salad for lunch. Bail plea of six accused in Madurai property tax scam dismissed
Madurai: Taking into account that the revenue loss for Madurai corporation in the property tax scam might extend to several crores, the principal district judge in Madurai dismissed the bail plea of six people, including a suspended assistant commissioner and two temporary staff, who were arrested in connection with the case. The court was hearing the bail petitions filed by suspended assistant commissioner A Rengarajan, two temporary staff - technical assistant R Sathish, data entry operator S Karthik, and brokers - Rajesh Kumar, Saga Hussain, and Mohamed Noor, who own shops near corporation zonal offices. The public prosecutor submitted that the then corporation commissioner lodged a complaint in 2024 after he found some irregularities in the records regarding property tax assessment. Investigation revealed that Sathish, along with other accused, used the password and user ID of bill collectors and reduced the taxes for more than 150 buildings, causing a loss to the corporation. His involvement was revealed while verifying his cellphone. Apart from the petitioners, other people involved in the offence are yet to be identified. On whose instructions the offences were committed is to be ascertained. The revenue loss caused to the corporation was estimated at Rs1.5 crore so far, and the loss may extend up to several crores. Investigation is at an early stage, said the public prosecutor while objecting to the grant of bail to the petitioners. The principal district judge, S Sivakadatcham, took note of the fact that the investigation is at a nascent stage and the prosecution has to examine the remaining building owners and other corporation employees. The judge also took note of the fact that the Madras high court directed the inspector general of police (south zone) and Madurai city commissioner of police to constitute a special investigation team to probe the scam. The judge said that if the petitioners are released on bail at this stage, there is a chance of tampering with the evidence and absconding, which will hinder the investigation. Considering all these aspects and the seriousness of the offences, the court holds that the petitioners deserve no consideration for bail at this stage, the judge said and dismissed their bail petitions on Monday.
