Iran holds funeral for top commanders, nuclear scientists killed in Israeli operation
Iran held a funeral for top military commanders and nuclear scientists killed during the country's 12-day war with Israel.
Among those mourned were Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) chief Gen. Hossein Salami and the head of the IRGC's ballistic missile program, Gen. Amir Ali Hajizadeh, according to the Associated Press. The outlet reported that funeral attendees lining the streets of Tehran shouted "Death to America" and "Death to Israel."
On June 13, the day Israel launched Operation Rising Lion, the IDF announced the deaths of Salami, Hajizadeh, and the commander of Khatam al-Anbiya (Emergency Command), Gholam-Ali Rashid. The following day, Israel claimed it had killed nine senior nuclear scientists and more than 20 Iranian commanders.

The caskets were draped in Iranian flags and adorned with photos of the deceased. Large trucks carried the on-display coffins through the heart of Tehran as crowds dressed in black and waved flags. The turnout could signal that the regime's internal crackdown is having an impact, as the people of Iran rush to mourn their leaders.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and other senior figures attended the funeral, but notably absent was Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has yet to make a public appearance since going into hiding.

Nonprofit Iran Human Rights (IHR) warned that at least six others on death row for allegedly spying for Israel are at risk of execution. ISTANBUL (Reuters) - Turkish authorities on Monday detained three cartoonists over a satirical drawing published by weekly magazine Leman that seemed to depict Prophets Moses and Muhammad shaking hands in the sky, while missiles flew below in a scene resembling war. The cartoon, widely seen as a commentary on religious harmony in contrast to conflict on Earth, drew strong condemnation from government officials and religious conservatives. In its statement on X, the Leman magazine apologised to readers who felt offended and said the cartoon had been misunderstood. It said Pehlevan had sought to highlight "the suffering of a Muslim man killed in Israeli attacks", and that there was no intent to insult Islam or its prophet. "The name Muhammad is among the most widely used in the world by Muslims honoring the Prophet. The cartoon does not depict the Prophet and was not drawn to mock religious values," the magazine said, calling some interpretations "deliberately malicious." Leman also urged judicial authorities to act against what it called a smear campaign, and asked security forces to protect freedom of expression. Earlier in the evening, video footage on social media showed a group of protesters marching to Leman's office building in central Istanbul, chanting slogans and kicking its entrance doors. Turkey's ranking for freedom of expression is consistently low, reflecting significant restrictions on media and public discourse. U.S. Embassy in Israel Eases Restrictions
The U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem will resume regular consular activities Wednesday and has lifted orders for government employees and their families to shelter in place, following the cease-fire between Israel and Iran. The embassy had earlier limited services due to the conflict. The embassy said travel outside major cities is still restricted for government staff and their families, except for transit between them and to and from some departure points.

Far-left actor John Cusack says Iran 'should get' nukes to protect Middle East from US and Israel
Anti-Israel and anti-Trump actor John Cusack expressed hope last Friday that Iran will get a nuclear weapon. In a post shared to X, the actor said Iran should get a nuclear weapon so that it can deter the U.S. and Israel's aggression in the Middle East. "Iran will surely rush to get a nuclear weapon- and they should get one," he wrote, adding, "it's the only way to deter US and Israel from bombing every country in Middle East." Cusack published his post almost a week after President Donald Trump ordered U.S. military strikes on three major Iranian facilities believed to be developing nuclear weapons. Long-range B-2 stealth bomber aircraft dropped 30,000-pound bunker-buster bombs on the locations on June 21 in an attack that Trump called "a spectacular military success." Cusack has been harshly critical of Israel's actions in its war in Gaza and war with Iran on social media. Prior to posting support for Iran getting nukes, he appeared to suggest that U.S. support for Israel meant the country was supporting a "genocidal" regime. Earlier, he posted that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been killing innocent children, and he accused the U.S. of being complicit.
