Aspen Wildfire Foundation Announces Donation of Type 3 Wildland Fire Engine

Part of Larger Fundraising Effort to Support Wildfire Resiliency and Response in the Region
ASPEN, Colo., July 10, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Aspen Wildfire Foundation is proud to announce the donation of a new Type 3 wildland fire engine to Aspen Fire Protection District—its largest gift to date and the first major milestone in this year's wildfire preparedness fundraising campaign. The engine, which arrived in Aspen in late June 2025, was made possible by a leadership gift from the JP Conte Family Foundation. It will be placed into service this wildfire season.
'We are deeply grateful for the Conte family's leadership and support,' said Rick Balentine, Aspen Fire Chief and Chair of the Aspen Wildfire Foundation. 'This gift significantly strengthens our local response capabilities—and it's just one piece of a broader, community-led push to invest in wildfire resilience. We hope it inspires others to step up and support this critical work.'
The Foundation works year-round to fund and implement strategies that protect people and ecosystems—from fuels reduction and home hardening to fire-adapted landscapes and firefighter readiness. In the face of increasing wildfire threats, community support has never been more essential.
Aspen local JP Conte is an investor, through his family office, Lupine Crest Capital, and a private equity veteran, serving as chairman and managing partner of Genstar Capital. As a longtime California resident, he has advocated for prescribed fire and landscape resilience through his work with the Pepperwood Preserve in Northern California.
'Aspen is an incredibly beautiful place that I am thankful to call home,' said Conte. 'For a long time, I've known the kinds of impact wildfire can have on our communities. I am proud to be working with the talented team at the Aspen Wildfire Foundation to help launch this fundraising push and ensure that we have the adequate resources and education to protect the place we all know and love.'
Aspen Wildfire Foundation works to protect people, restore landscapes, and prepare the community for the future across the Aspen Fire Protection District and connected landscapes. The announcement comes as the Foundation prepares for its second annual Evening of Embers and Elegance fundraiser, to be held July 18 at the Aspen Fire Station. This signature event gathers community members, partners, and supporters to help fund critical wildfire preparedness measures, including fuels reduction, home hardening, and firefighter readiness.

Foundation donates RM100,000 to boost AI learning at Kian Kok

Published on: Tuesday, August 05, 2025 Published on: Tue, Aug 05, 2025 Text Size: Chin (4th from left) presenting a RM50,000 mock cheque to Clement, whole others look on. Kota Kinabalu: The Kinabalu Foundation has contributed RM100,000 to Kian Kok Middle School over the past two years in support of Chinese education and digital advancement, particularly in developing Artificial Intelligence (AI) learning infrastructure. The funding, disbursed in two phases, was used to improve the school's computer hardware and software. In 2024, RM50,000 was allocated to upgrade teachers' computer systems. This year, another RM50,000 was approved for the student computer lab, forming the base for the school's AI education programme. Kian Kok Middle School Board Chairman Datuk Clement Yeh said the assistance had helped the school take its first steps toward integrating AI-related modules into the curriculum. 'In today's education landscape, we cannot ignore technological developments. Students should have the opportunity to learn about systems like AI from an early stage. This contribution has helped us start building the necessary foundation,' he said. Advertisement He added that the school would have struggled to launch a structured AI programme without the Foundation's support due to limited resources. The Kinabalu Foundation, established in 1982, has long supported Chinese education in Sabah. To date, it has donated over RM4.28 million to schools statewide, benefiting more than 5,300 students through infrastructure upgrades, digital modernisation, and student assistance. In 2025 alone, the Foundation allocated RM401,000 to nine Chinese independent schools and seven converted Chinese secondary schools, including those in rural areas. Foundation Chairman Datuk Chin Chee Kee said the goal is to ensure that access to technology is not limited by location or resources. 'AI education should not be limited to schools in big cities. We want to help schools prepare students for the future,' he said. He said the Foundation's role goes beyond preserving language and culture, by also encouraging progress in science, technology and innovation within the Chinese school system. Kian Kok plans to use the latest grant to introduce AI-related subjects such as image recognition and basic programming and to provide training for teachers. The school aims to build a full AI education programme within three years. Since 1983, the Foundation has contributed more than RM16 million to Chinese education, including school construction, renovations, flood relief and rural teacher incentives. In 1997, it raised RM7.79 million through the 'Top Ten Charity Concert', with RM774,017 channelled to Kian Kok. From 2000 to date, it has awarded RM6.05 million in scholarships to 8,139 students and RM2.42 million in loans to 114 students pursuing tertiary education. 'The Kinabalu Foundation has given us not just funds but also the support to move forward with education upgrades,' said the school's administration. The RM100,000 contribution is part of the Foundation's wider effort to support Chinese schools in Sabah to adapt to new learning needs and technologies.

Selangor's PLATS programme records RM10mil in sales

KLANG: The Platform Selangor (PLATS) initiative, a digital entrepreneurship ecosystem spearheaded by the Selangor government, has recorded cumulative sales exceeding RM10 million. Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor, Head of the Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI) Foundation, said the figure reflects the success of various initiatives under the programme. "Based on our data, the Agrobank PLATS Ramadan Bazaar alone generated around RM8 million in sales," he told a press conference yesterday. "Additionally, data from the point-of-sale device system provided to our entrepreneurs shows nearly RM3 million in transactions." To date, 88,000 entrepreneurs have joined PLATS, edging closer to the target of 100,000 set by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. The programme primarily supports micro-entrepreneurs, including hawkers and small retailers, particularly in the food and beverage and service sectors. Ahmad Azri added that the foundation is collaborating with the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) to help entrepreneurs expand into international markets. "We'll be heading to Shanghai this November to explore opportunities for marketing our products there, as well as in the Middle East," he said. - BERNAMA
