2 armed masked men rob McDonald's restaurant in Lincoln Square
Ald. Andre Vasquez (40th) issued a public safety alert of the armed robbery that happened around 3:45 p.m. at the McDonald's located in the 4800 block of North Lincoln Avenue.
Police have established a perimeter between California and Ainslie and Washtenaw and Lawrence.
Neighbors in the area are advised to stay clear of the perimeter during the investigation.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Area 3 detectives at 312-744-8261 or the office of Ald. Vasquez.

26 dogs removed from Chicago Lawn home amid animal cruelty investigation
More than two dozen dogs were removed from a home on Friday in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood, after police responded to a report of animal cruelty. Police said officers were called to a home in the 3300 block of West 65th Place around 4:30 p.m. for a report of animal cruelty, and found multiple dogs in the back yard and garage. At least one of the dogs was injured. Chicago Animal Care and Control officials confirmed 26 dogs were removed from a home. Officials said the situation would place an additional strain on the city's animal shelter, which is already near capacity. In July, the city's animal shelter took in an average of more than 50 cats and dogs per day. "While animals involved in this case will not be immediately available, we have hundreds of other pets currently waiting for loving homes. Adoption fees are waived for the entire month of August, and we encourage the public to visit the shelter. For those unable to adopt, fostering is also a vital way to help, and we work with multiple rescue partners who offer foster programs," a Chicago Animal Care and Control spokesperson said. "We appreciate the public's continued support and compassion for the animals in our care." Area 1 detectives were conducting an investigation into the animal cruelty allegations.

Man charged with attempted murder mistakenly released from court custody
Police in London, Ont. are asking the public to be on the lookout for a man who was accidentally released after he was charged with attempted murder. In hurried announcement Friday evening, police said the man was "erroneously released from custody" almost 24 hours earlier after he had attended a court appearance in relation to the attempted murder charge. They say he poses a serious threat to the public. "He should be considered armed and dangerous. We just want to make sure the public is aware and that they call 911 and do not approach this this male if they see him," said Acting Insp. Maria Wright. "Community safety is a top priority for us. This is why we're [making this announcement]." Police identified the person who was released as Cody Anthony Leblanc Ashe, 28, of London. He is accused of attempted murder and possession of a firearm contrary to a probation order among other charges. Leblanc Ashe is accused of carrying out a shooting at a community housing complex in London's east-end that sent one man to hospital with serious injuries nearly a year ago on Sept. 11, 2024. He was arrested in late October 2024 at a home near the site of the shooting. Wright described him as a Black male, weighing approximately 229 pounds, standing 6 feet, 4 inches, with a medium build, black hair, scruffy facial hair and brown eyes. A mugshot provided to CBC News includes a tattoo above his right eye. Wright said Leblanc Ashe was not released by police, but was instead released while in custody of the Ministry of the Solicitor General. Police can't confirm whether he was released from the London courthouse or from the Elgin Middlesex Detention Centre, where he was being held. They said they are waiting for confirmation from the Solicitor General. CBC News has reached out to the province for comment on the circumstances of the release, and will update this story when a response is received. "He hasn't been in the custody of the London Police for some time. We're working with our community partners to come to an understanding on how this happened," she said. "But for right now, we're just really looking to apprehend this gentleman, and to bring him in for public safety reasons." Wright reiterated the public should avoid approaching the accused at all costs, and should instead call 911, the LPS non-emergent line at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). "He was last seen shortly after 8 p.m., on Thursday, in the area of Exeter Road and Sholto Drive," police said.

Chicago Public Schools teacher Jaron Woodsley charged with sharing child pornography over Telegram app
A Chicago Public Schools teacher who also is on the staff of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra has been charged with sending and receiving child pornography over a messaging app. Jaron Woodsley, 27, has been charged with receipt and distribution of child pornography. In a criminal complaint filed in federal court in Chicago, the FBI accused Woodsley of sending at least 13 videos containing child pornography over the Telegram messaging app to another man in Colorado in September. That man allegedly sent back six videos of child pornography to Woodsley. The app encrypts users' data so that it can only be accessed on their mobile devices, "making it an ideal platform for individuals engaged in the receipt, and distribution of child pornography," FBI Special Agent Meghan Crooks wrote in the complaint. One of the videos Woodsley allegedly received over Telegram was of the Colorado man sexually abusing a 3-year-old, according to the charges. "Can't wait to f*** him," the Colorado man allegedly wrote in a message to Woodsley. "I'll definitely be down to join you," Woodsley allegedly wrote back. As part of an FBI investigation in Colorado, the other man's phone was later seized and he was arrested on child pornography charges. Investigators later traced the messages back to Woodsley. Woodsley was scheduled to make his first court appearance Friday afternoon, but information on that hearing was not immediately available. He faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted. According to the Chicago Public Schools' website, Woodsley is a teacher at Robert Fulton Elementary school in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. A CPS spokesperson said Woodsley was removed from his teaching position as the district's inspector general investigates, after they were notified of his arrest on Friday. "Student safety is one of Chicago Public Schools' highest priorities," a CPS spokesperson said. "CPS will not hesitate to terminate an employee under established District policies and procedures." He's also on the staff of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra, according to the FBI. The Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra said Woodsley was immediately suspended after they learned of the charges. "This alleged behavior is abhorrent and vile and completely inconsistent with both CYSO policies and the law," CYSO executive director Jennie Oh Brown said in a statement. "The safety of our students is our highest priority, and we are dedicated to maintaining a safe and nurturing environment for their learning and development. CYSO staff and community are deeply disheartened by this situation, and we will cooperate fully with appropriate authorities."
