Titagarh Rail Systems bags Rs 1,600-crore contract to supply 108 coaches to Mumbai Metro
'The margin of this new metro contract remains consistent with the current trend of 9-10 per cent. This will improve once we ramp up capacity, and the ongoing backwards integration is complete,' TRSL's Deputy MD Pritish Chowdhary told PTI. TRSL received a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) for the design, manufacture, supply, installation, integration, testing and commissioning of the coaches for Mumbai Metro's Line 6, he said. Kolkata, Aug 4 (PTI) Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd (TRSL) has received a Rs 1,598.55-crore contract for manufacturing 108 coaches for Mumbai Metro, a company official said on Monday. Currently, each coach costs on average Rs 10-11 crore, depending on facilities and requirements of the customer, he said. The contract has been awarded by NCC Ltd, which is executing the project for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). The scope includes five years of comprehensive maintenance, following a two-year defect liability period, the company said. As the specialised subcontractor for rolling stock for Line 6, connecting Swami Samarth Nagar to Vikhroli (Eastern Express Highway), TRSL will deliver 18 train sets comprising six coaches each, it said. The design-build phase is expected to be completed within 104 weeks, after which the maintenance period will commence, it added. The company said the order further strengthens its presence in the Indian urban transit segment, aligning with its broader growth strategy in rail mobility solutions. TRSL has an integrated manufacturing facility at Uttarpara in West Bengal's Hooghly district. PTI BSM SOM This report is auto-generated from PTI news service. Mumbai Metro Lines 2A and 7 clock 200 million rides in 39 months
Mumbai: Mumbai Metro Lines 2A and 7 recorded more than 200 million passenger journeys since their launch in April 2022, according to data shared by Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Ltd (MMMOCL). Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The milestone was reached in just over three years of operations, with current daily ridership averaging over three lakh. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said the numbers reflected a shift in how Mumbai commutes. "The 200 million ridership milestone proves that the people of Mumbai have embraced the Metro as their trusted companion," he said. The two elevated corridors—Line 2A from Dahisar (West) to Andheri (West), and Line 7 from Dahisar (East) to Gundavali—were introduced to ease congestion on the city's western arterial roads and rail networks. Officials say steady improvements in service frequency, punctuality, and integration have contributed to the increase in ridership. Deputy chief Mminister Eknath Shinde said, "This isn't just a mobility achievement—it's a quality-of-life transformation. With every Metro ride, we move closer to our vision of a connected Mumbai, where no citizen is left behind." Rubal Agarwal, managing director, MMMOCL, said, "Our operational teams work round the clock to ensure safety, cleanliness, and efficiency. We're now focusing on the next frontier—enhancing service frequency, onboarding digital ticketing tools, and ensuring last-mile connectivity." Metropolitan commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee called the 200 million mark a strong validation of the agency's efforts. "A consistent monthly growth of 4–5% in ridership reflects how Mumbaikars are steadily opting for smarter travel choices. This is not just a number. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now It reflects how well-executed projects can change a city's transport narrative," he said.
