SUNGAI SIPUT, June 28 (Bernama) -- The MADANI Rahmah Sale Programme (PJRM) held at the Orang Asli One-Stop Centre (OAOSC) here has brought meaningful relief to the surrounding Orang Asli community, offering essential goods at affordable prices.
Despite the long journey, a rubber tapper from Legap Regroupment Scheme (RPS), Long Busu, 56, said he was willing to drive nearly an hour to the centre to obtain essential household items at reduced prices.
Describing it as a highly beneficial government initiative for the low-income group, the father of six and grandfather of 10 said the programme organised by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) had significantly eased the burden of the Orang Asli, particularly those in remote areas.
'It is quite a long journey to get here, but because the essential items are sold at low prices, I still came to do my shopping.
'It's really worth it. I bought rice, chicken and cooking oil, which are cheaper here than at the supermarkets,' he told Bernama recently.
Ali Busu, 53, from Kampung Bawong said the programme had brought relief to the Orang Asli community in Bawong and Legap RPS as they no longer had to make the long journey to Sungai Siput town to buy their daily necessities.
He said the initiative not only saved time and travel costs but also offered quality goods at very reasonable prices.
'Even though the prices are lower, the goods are good and fresh. There's no difference between the chicken, meat or dry goods sold here and those at the big markets.

300 Asnaf In Beserah Receive Food Aid Worth RM60,000

KUANTAN, June 29 (Bernama) -- A total of 300 asnaf (eligible zakat recipients) in Beserah received food baskets worth RM60,000 in conjunction with the Indera Mahkota Al-Falah MADANI Carnival 2025 today. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar said his department also contributed RM100,000 in Musa'adah assistance to 17 religious institutions in Pahang, in addition to 10,000 school bags and supplies for students statewide. He said the carnival, organised by the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) through the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim), successfully met its objectives by fostering harmony and strengthening community ties. 'This carnival offers a platform to get to know each other more closely, especially among the people of Indera Mahkota and Beserah. 'Its objectives are evident, from the sharing of knowledge to supporting the asnaf group and initiatives that benefit the wider community,' he said during the Al-Falah MADANI Musa'adah Contribution Presentation Ceremony at Masjid Jamek Beserah here. Mohd Na'im added that the carnival, held in collaboration with various government agencies, reflected the spirit of the Prophet Muhammad's hijrah from Makkah to Madinah, which centred on strengthening ukhuwah (brotherhood) within society. -- BERNAMA

Expanding education to Sabah's rural areas

Published on: Sunday, June 29, 2025 Published on: Sun, Jun 29, 2025 By: Nora Ahmad Text Size: Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek - pix Bernama Kota Kinabalu: The Education Ministry is intensifying efforts to ensure Sabah is not left behind in education, particularly in rural areas. Its Minister, Fadhlina Sidek, said Sabah remains a priority in the implementation of national education policies and reforms. 'We are committed to addressing issues of access and ensuring no student is left behind,' she said, after attending the 69th anniversary celebration of Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), Saturday. She said the Ministry is working closely with Ministry of Defence (Mindef) to expand educational access in the interior through a special programme in the state. 'A programme known as ProKhas has been launched in Kg Serudong Laut, Tawau, under Mindef's Jiwa Murni initiative. We're collaborating with Mindef to build a school in Kg Serudong Laut. This joint commitment aims to develop educational facilities in the area with full involvement from the local community,' she explained. Although the construction of the school is still in the planning stage, she said learning sessions have already begun to prevent children from falling behind. 'Reading classes are being conducted by a rotation of teachers provided by the Sabah State Education Department (JPNS). 'During our visit, around 20 to 30 pupils were already attending classes. We are now gathering data to determine the full number of students, with the aim of ensuring consistent attendance. The numbers are expected to increase over time,' she added. Fadhlina also expressed pride in Sabah's recent academic achievements in the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examination. 'More than 146 students in Sabah scored a perfect CGPA of 4.0, this is a clear testament to the success of the education reforms we have put in place. 'This achievement will further motivate the MoE to strengthen the implementation of educational programmes, including enhancing the Form Six pathway in the state,' she said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
