Guernsey Post announces ten redundancies as it restructures freight service
From September, the company's freight subsidiary HR Air will be split, with Guernsey deliveries brought into the island's main postal operations, while HR Air's customer services and admin will move to Jersey.
Guernsey Post Chief Executive Steve Sheridan says they will support all workers affected by redundancy and the HR brand continues to be an important part of the wider business.
He explains: "This has been a very difficult decision, but a necessary one to respond to changing market dynamics and ensure we are operating in a way that is both efficient and sustainable.
"Our priority is to support our colleagues through this transition while continuing to deliver reliable and high-quality service to our customers."
The changes are part of Guernsey Post's 'business transformation programme' which started in 2023 and aims to secure the organisation's long-term future.

New Guernsey post office to open without wheelchair access
The new post office in the centre of Guernsey's capital will not have wheelchair access when it opens, Guernsey Post has listed building, at 7 Commercial Arcade, will be the only post office in St Peter Port town centre when it opens on a high step meant it would not be accessible to wheelchair users and some other people with physical Gallienne, head of corporate engagement, said the building's listed status meant there were "some challenges" making alterations but Guernsey Post said it was exploring options for a temporary ramp. 'Heart of the town' Guernsey Post said the new post office would "offer a full range of postal services in a more modern, central setting".Chief executive Steve Sheridan said: "We look forward to welcoming customers into a refreshed space that reflects the evolving needs of our community."The new post office will offer additional services including foreign currency, gifts and stamp collectables, Guernsey Post Gallienne added: "We are really pleased to be opening our new post office right in the heart of town. "Being part of the arcade places us in a vibrant and well-used location with convenient access for customers."The North Plantation Post Office will be closed on Monday 7 July to "facilitate the transition".However, PO Box holders can access their boxes until 12:00 customers at North Plantation will have their collection point moved to the Guille-Allès Library which already operates an EBox service, it added.

Guernsey Post launches digital collectable stamps
Guernsey Post has launched a set of digital goat-themed "cyber-stamps" which include both a physical stamp and a digital version for people to collect. The postal service said it believed the concept was a "world first" that was "marking a new era in stamp collecting", with each digital stamp unique to the owner. The concept follows an attempt to release crypto stamps by the company in 2024, which were deemed a virtual asset by the island's financial regulator and of philatelic at Guernsey Post Bridget Yabsley said it was hoped the digital stamps could attract "a new generation of collectors". The virtual copy of the physical stamp is activated after purchase through a QR code found on the reverse of the stamp and can be traded. Guernsey Post said the "one-of-a-kind" Royal Golden Guernsey Goat had unique traits, such as fur colour, clothing and randomly assigned traits determined the overall rarity of each goat – common, rare and legendary, it Yabsley said: "By combining physical stamps with a dynamic digital experience, we hope to attract a new generation of collectors with our cyber-stamps, while still honouring the storytelling that make postal stamps so special. "We're proud to say that this is the world's first cyber-stamps with a digital collectible."This innovation helps to ensure that Guernsey Post remains at the forefront of modern philately." The goat stamp concept blocked by the Guernsey Financial Services Commission (GFSC) in 2024 would have seen the digital version of the stamps become Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs).NFTs are considered digital trading cards holding a specific value to a cryptocurrency. The GFSC said the stamps did not meet the requirements of the Lending, Credit and Finance (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Law 2022 and blocked their introduction. Pre-sale of the digital stamps are due to begin on 9 July.

Plans approved for 69 homes on former CI Tyres site in Guernsey
Plans have been approved for 69 new homes in Guernsey. Two six-storey apartment buildings and a few courtyard houses will be developed on the former CI Tyres site on La Charotterie in St Peter Port. An application for 57 flats in one ten-storey block had already been granted permission but the site's owner, Guernsey Housing Association (GHA), then decided to change its application. The area will now include 60 one-bed and nine two-bed homes, with hopes that it will help address the island's housing crisis. Its Chief Operating Officer, Lisa de Kooker says: "We remain committed to progressing developments that provide high-quality, affordable homes for islanders and this scheme does just that." The plans will now go through a tender process for contractors before final approval by the GHA and Guernsey States. Construction is expected to start in early 2026 and the development could be completed by the end of 2027. The land was bought by the GHA for £1.7 million back in 2022 with initial hopes that up to 25 units could be developed by 2024.
