3 Best AI Stocks to Buy in August
Key Points A European AI infrastructure company is quietly outgrowing established cloud giants with purpose-built technology and strategic positioning. The productivity software leader is successfully monetizing AI integration across its massive user base, while competitors struggle with adoption. The social media giant's AI investments are already paying dividends in advertising revenue even as it pursues ambitious superintelligence goals. 10 stocks we like better than Nebius Group › Artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the most transformative technologies of our time, driving unprecedented advancements in sectors ranging from healthcare and transportation to communications and beyond. For investors, this creates a landmark opportunity to back the companies at the forefront of this revolution. As we head into August, three companies in particular stand out for their strategic positioning and potential for growth in the AI space. The European dark horse with massive ambitions Nebius Group (NASDAQ: NBIS) is emerging as a serious contender in the AI infrastructure race. The Amsterdam-based company, led by former Yandex founder Arkady Volozh, reported staggering 385% year-over-year revenue growth in Q1 2025, reaching $55.3 million, driven primarily by demand for its AI infrastructure services. The stock has surged 92% year to date as investors begin to take notice. What sets Nebius apart is its vertically integrated approach. Rather than retrofitting general-purpose cloud infrastructure for AI workloads, Nebius builds custom hardware and software specifically for intensive AI training and inference. The company expects to reach $750 million to $1 billion in annual recurring revenue (ARR) by the end of 2025. Backed by 94% low-carbon electricity and a Europe-first strategy, Nebius is positioning itself as a credible long-term alternative to the U.S. hyperscalers, making it one of the most compelling buy-and-hold plays in the AI infrastructure space. The productivity powerhouse monetizing AI at scale Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) stands out as the most pragmatic AI play in tech, with shares up roughly 24% year to date. In fiscal year 2025, the company reported that Azure and other cloud services generated more than $75 billion in revenue, marking a 34% year over year increase. Microsoft also posted $76.4 billion in total revenue for its fiscal fourth quarter, beating analyst expectations and pushing shares to new highs. Microsoft's strength lies in its integration strategy. Rather than launching stand-alone AI tools, the company has embedded Copilot across its core productivity suite, contributing to measurable growth across Microsoft 365 and cloud services. Teams Phone adoption surpassed 20 million users, and Copilot-enabled services now reach more than 100 million. With over a billion users across Office and Windows, Microsoft has unmatched distribution for scaling AI tools globally. The company plans to invest $30 billion this quarter alone in AI-enabled infrastructure, reinforcing its leadership in both profitability and long-term platform dominance. What's the bottom line? While others race to catch up, Microsoft is already cashing in, turning its massive installed base into the most profitable AI deployment machine on the planet. The advertising giant reimagining social with superintelligence Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: META) is taking the most aggressive swing at AI integration, with shares climbing 29% year to date after a blowout Q2. Total revenue hit $47.5 billion, up 22% from the prior year, with advertising contributing $46.6 billion and outperforming expectations. CEO Mark Zuckerberg's push to embed "personal superintelligence" across its platforms is beginning to show measurable traction. Advanced AI tools are powering more precise ad delivery and improved monetization, while the company's $14.3 billion stake in Scale AI signals an intent to anchor the next generation of core models. Daily engagement remains strong, with 3.48 billion people using Meta's apps each day as of June 2025, a 6% year-over-year gain. Meta lifted its full-year capital expenditure forecast to between $66 billion and $72 billion, largely to support AI infrastructure and training. But with profit engines running at full speed and unmatched insight into user behavior, Meta is gearing up to dominate the global attention economy. The AI infrastructure build-out is just beginning These three companies represent distinct strategies in the ongoing AI hyperbuild. Nebius offers pure-play infrastructure exposure with a European edge; Microsoft delivers integrated productivity gains with immediate monetization; and Meta combines massive social scale with leading-edge AI development. For long-term investors, holding all three offers a balanced way to capture the full spectrum of AI-driven value creation. Should you invest $1,000 in Nebius Group right now? Indirect effects of tariffs ‘more significant' than 35 per cent headline says supply chain expert
The latest tariff announcement from the Oval Office shouldn't be cause for panic for communities like Windsor on the frontline of the White House-launched trade war, according to an auto sector expert. In an interview with CTV News, Ivey Business School professor and Chair of the Leenders Supply Chain Management Association, Fraser Johnson, said Canada's economy has proven surprisingly resilient. 'The headline is more dramatic than the actual effect,' said Johnson. 'I'm optimistic about what's going to happen. I think it's going to take some time. But I think generally what we're seeing is probably a best-case scenario economically.' On Thursday, President Donald Trump signed an executive order upping across-the-board tariffs to 35 per cent from 25 per cent. However, Johnson says Canadian exports into the U.S. are seeing an effective tariff rate of about 5 per cent with the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) helping to keep American tariffs at bay for more than 90 per cent of goods. Despite the silver lining amid heightened economic concern, Johnson points to sectoral tariffs — like the 25 per cent U.S. import tax on autos and auto parts — as the real drivers of pain being suffered in Windsor and Southern Ontario. 'The indirect effects, I would argue, are more significant because it just clouds business certainty,' said Johnson. 'It creates an environment where businesses are hesitant to make investments in capital, hire new people, invest in research and development and ultimately that stifles innovation.' While supply chain disruptions aren't expected to match the turmoil seen during the height of the pandemic, there are still jobs at risk as the knock-on effects of higher costs are realized and a tariff agreement remains out of reach. Johnson points to the supply-side employment of the auto sector with upward of 90,000 people filling those roles supporting the roughly 30,000 people assembling vehicles in Canada. 'Unless businesses have some clarity in terms of what the economic climate is going to look like, they're not going to want to go to the board of directors and ask for money to be able to invest in the business,' said Johnson. 'Right now, the big three automakers are really being disadvantaged compared to the arrangements that have been made with both Europe and Japan.' And job security isn't just a concern in Canada. The American workforce will also feel the pinch as their pay takes a tariff-induced hit. 'Part of the compensation of the UAW members is profit-sharing and if the profits of the big three are being hit by tariff related costs, that's going to hit them right in the pocketbook,' said Johnson. As far as Johnson is concerned, Prime Minister Mark Carney's approach is the right one and suggests ignoring calls for retaliation like those from Premier Doug Ford. 'I think Carney is doing the right thing by not retaliating and keeping his head down,' said Johnson. 'There's really no upside.'

'Bug burgers' made with Ontario crickets slide onto the menu at London cafe
A London cafe is upending burger norms with its slider trio that includes patties made of buffalo, elk and ostrich. But the one protein that's rarely seen on a menu, but has customers perking up with curiosity, is the cricket burger. The London Bicycle Cafe on Thames Street is using Ontario-grown cricket powder mixed into a black bean base to make the Bug Burger. "If someone had just given me the cricket burger and I ate it, I would have just said 'very nice flavour—actually, delectable—with a bit of sweetness,'" customer John Langford said. Topped with vegan garlic mayo, chow chow and arugula, the bug burger wasn't created for the shock factor. Instead, the chef at the cafe, that's also home to a bike sales and repair shop, says sustainability was the goal. The proteins were chosen because, from farm to table, they create fewer carbon emissions compared to beef, chef Alicia Berkelmans said. And it's proving to be a big selling point for some customers who see the stats written out on the menu. "I would like to work in sustainability, so it's something I really value," Ethan Leaf said after finishing the slider trio. "So seeing that this is something that's more sustainable, I can really appreciate that." "Overall the feedback has been really, really positive," Berkelmans said, noting about 15 to 20 sliders are being served up daily. "Everybody really enjoyed it and they've been helping us fine tune the dish for the last couple of weeks. It's been great." Cricket farmer say this is not 'anti-meat' The cricket powder comes from Entomo Farms, east of Peterborough, which produces the protein for human and animal consumption. While still a niche market for people, operations manager Darren Goldin says adventurous eaters are interested in trying it. He said one selling feature, which interested the Bicycle Cafe, is the amount of grain a cricket eats. Goldin said it is less than traditional meat animals, making for a smaller carbon footprint. He explained that a pound of crickets can be farmed with less than two pounds of grain. It's important that people understand the business is not anti-meat, Goldin said, but rather a complement to all the other types of meat people enjoy. "There are some people who are more adventurous eaters and some people wo are more conservative eaters. We're not going to convince everybody."
