Former Celtic and Scotland footballer caught drug driving

The 27-year-old was driving a red Ford Focus near Avenue End Road.
When she stopped, officers noted her to be nervous and fidgety.
They instructed her to give a sample of saliva, which she did shortly after 2pm.
This was positive for cocaine, so Whyte was arrested.
She was taken to Coatbridge police station.
Around 2.43pm, the Hogganfield resident also provided a blood sample, which was sent for analysis.
On July 8, 2024, the result came back and was also positive for cocaine.

Whyte appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court today, after she pleaded guilty to driving while the amount of cocaine in her blood was 32 microgrammes in one litre of blood.
She also admitted to having driven while the level of Benzoylecgonine - a primary metabolite of cocaine - was 800 microgrammes in one litre of blood.
These are both over the legal limit.
At the hearing, Whyte's lawyer said: "Addiction is a fairly significant issue. She was a very talented footballer, representing Celtic and Scotland, before she has a serious injury.
"That sent her into chaos. This is a bad coping mechanism."
Sheriff Patricia Pryce said: "She has been clean for some time. There is no scope for addiction support."
The solicitor agreed.
Sheriff Pryce told Whyte: "It's by the skin of your teeth that I am able to deal with this without custody.
"I appreciate you had a difficult time but you're putting road users at risk when you do this."
She was sentenced to 200 hours of unpaid work, to be completed within eight months and disqualified from driving for three years.

Kneecap fans at Glasgow gig rally around trio after festival slot cancelled

Kneecap fans gathered outside the band's gig in Glasgow have spoken of their support for the Irish rap trio despite them being axed from festival slots. The three members of Kneecap arrived at the O2 Academy in Glasgow on Tuesday evening ahead of their gig there, where they were greeted by pro-Palestinian demonstrators waving flags. Kneecap were axed from the line-up of TRNSMT in the city amid a row over an investigation by counter-terror police into Liam Og O hAnnaidh, who performs as Mo Chara, who is accused of terrorism offences related to a Hezbollah flag he allegedly held up on stage. The rap group, who perform in English and Irish, have been outspoken critics of the war in Gaza and claim the prosecution is linked to their views on Palestine. A number of fans and demonstrators spoke to the PA news agency outside the venue about their support for Kneecap, often declining to give their surnames. One called Meghan said she and her friend Amy had originally planned to go to TRNSMT before deciding to go to the Kneecap gig instead. She said it was 'disgusting' the band had been dropped from the line-up, adding: 'I think people are just scared for them to express proper problems in the world. 'They just want to shy away from it whereas Kneecap just come out and say it like it is.' Pro-Palestinian protester Naomi said: 'We're of the opinion the establishment is so under threat, they're having to look to ridiculous means to try and silence outspoken voices. 'We applaud Kneecap.' Cat Train, of the group Mothers against Genocide, said: 'They've been cancelled by money, haven't they? They've been cancelled by capitalism. 'So whoever booked them to play the O2 did absolutely the right thing.' Another fan called Asha, who has been to see the group 11 times, said: 'It's not like they're saying anything that's wrong, everything they're saying is absolutely correct. 'People don't like hearing the truth.' TRNSMT cancelled Kneecap's performance at the end of May over safety concerns from Police Scotland. The police force said it has a 'proportionate and considered policing plan' ahead of Kneecap's gig in Glasgow, which replaced their cancelled slot at the TRNSMT festival. As well as Kneecap's sold-out gig, Billie Eilish and Kendrick Lamar are also performing in Glasgow on Tuesday. In May, Scotland's First Minister John Swinney called for TRNSMT to cancel the performance on July 11, saying that 'organisers of TRNSMT have got to consider that issue'. O hAnnaidh was charged under the name Liam O'Hanna by the Metropolitan Police in May, over the alleged display of a Hezbollah flag at a gig, and appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on June 18. The furore led to calls from Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch for Glastonbury to cancel a performance from the Belfast rappers on June 28, which the festival organisers did not do. Ahead of the Glasgow gig, Superintendent Paul Douglas of Police Scotland said: 'We are aware of a number of events and concerts due to take place in the Greater Glasgow area in the week beginning Monday July 7. 'A proportionate and considered policing plan is in place within the city and we are working with a number of stakeholders to ensure the safety of all those attending these events and where possible minimise disruption to the people of Glasgow.'

Guilty, scout volunteer who sexually assaulted 21-year-old student in tent at camp

A volunteer at a major international Scouting event had to secretly text a friend to rescue her from a man as he sexually assaulted her in a tent, a court has heard. Jack MacLean was also a volunteer at the 2024 Blair Atholl Jamborette, Perthshire, when he attacked the girl. Perth Sheriff Court heard how the 29-year-old laughed in his victim's face after first assaulting her at a pub during the event. He later turned up at her tent uninvited and started stroking her leg, which prompted her to discreetly text a friend to come and help her. He was yesterday placed on the sex offenders' register and under supervision for a year as well as ordered to carry out 200 hours unpaid work in the community after being found guilty of sexual assault charges. Sheriff Elizabeth McFarlane told him: 'This was a case where I have heard two diametrically opposed versions of events. 'You gave a very different account to that of the complainer. Unfortunately for you, there were five other witnesses who supported the complainer's evidence.' She said she found some of MacLean's story 'bewildering'. The sheriff said the victim's testimony was credible and reliable and told MacLean: 'I have no hesitation in finding you guilty of both charges.' The court heard MacLean, of Bannockburn, near Stirling, and his 21-year-old student victim had been at Blair Atholl for the biennial event welcoming thousands of Scouts from around the world. She said she was out with other activity leaders at the Food In The Park cafe and bar on the evening of 17 July 2024. She said she vaguely knew MacLean from a previous camp. She told the court: 'He was there with other friends but everyone kind of knew each other. Jack kept on grabbing me. He was touching me inappropriately. I kept asking him to stop, saying he was going too far.' When he touched her bottom, she tried to laugh it off but told him to stop. He then reached round and grabbed her inappropriately again. The victim added: 'I couldn't say anything. 'I was just in shock. I walked away.' When asked how MacLean reacted to being told to stop, the woman said he laughed but did not say anything. MacLean then approached her again outside after closing time. The victim said: 'There was a conversation but I can't remember what was said. I didn't want to talk to him at this point. I just kind of zoned out. Then he grabbed my breasts with both hands.' The woman said she took a step back in shock and told the court: 'I think he was just laughing again.' The woman made her way back to the six-berth tent she was sharing with others and got changed to go to her sleeping quarters. She heard the front of the tent unzip and popped her head out expecting to see one of the people she was sharing with, but instead saw MacLean. She told the court: 'He came to the door of my room. Then he started stroking my legs, up towards my thigh. I froze and panicked.' The woman said the ordeal lasted around ten minutes, and during that time she texted her friend to say MacLean was touching her and she felt uncomfortable. The text was seen by a male Scout leader who went to the tent. He found MacLean 'half in and half out' of the victim's sleeping area. He escorted him out of the tent. MacLean, who denied sexually assaulting the woman, said he cycled to the pub alone and had a pint of lager and a lemonade. He claimed he did not have a direct conversation with his victim but admitted he had rested his head on her back. MacLean was found guilty of sexually assaulting the woman at Food in the Park on 17 July and again at Target Park in Blair Atholl on 18 July 2024.
