Shoppers say this haircare duo makes fine hair look fuller

Daily Mirror19-06-2025

'I have only used this shampoo and conditioner twice, but I am impressed as hair feels and looks thicker'
As a thin-haired girlie, I know all too well the struggle of trying to coax volume into lifeless locks. Thankfully, there are some impressive options on the market - from affordable staples like John Frieda to luxurious blends from Champo and Philip Kingsley.
Excitedly, the latter has dropped a deal on one of its most-loved ranges, and it's worth snapping up. The Philip Kingsley Body Building Weightless Shampoo and Conditioner Duo is now £49.28, down from £56, saving shoppers £6.72.
Plus, if you spend over £65, you can unlock a free gift at checkout using the code REPAIR. It's a brilliant excuse to stock up or try a treatment from the same line, such as the Maximiser Root Boosting Spray (£21).
For those not familiar, the Body Building duo is formulated specifically for fine, flat, flyaway-prone hair. The hero ingredient is keratin, a protein that works to plump up limp strands while making them more manageable and easier to style.

Product Description
In clinical trials, 81% of users reported that hair looked smoother and less limp, while 79% noted that it felt fuller and more voluminous. It's also loved by real users, boasting a solid 4.8-star rating.
Of course, there are plenty more volumizing heroes to explore. John Frieda's Volume Lift range is a great, affordable pick, with the shampoo currently reduced to £4.83 from £7.25 at Boots.
Meanwhile, for a proper luxury option, Oribe Shampoo for Magnificent Volume (£43) is a splurge, but the majority of reviewers love it. One said: "My hair's in great condition now, nice shine and great volume. Yes, it is more money than other shampoos out there, and it does pain me a bit when I have to rebuy it, but I never regret it."
Regarding Philip Kingsley, one shopper claimed: "I have only used this shampoo and conditioner twice, but I am impressed as hair feels and looks thicker." Meanwhile, another added: "Brilliant - my sticky-out, flyaway hair is once again my crowning glory."
A third person also expressed their happiness: "I can't tell you the difference these products have made to my hair and well-being. Having been through a very stressful time, my hair was thinning and falling out, and I was suffering from an extremely itchy and flaky scalp.
"I googled the best products for these issues, and your name consistently came up, so I placed an order. Within a few washes, I could see the difference. My hair feels so much better and so much like my 'normal' hair. It's got so much more body, and the itchy, flaky scalp has improved so much."
However, it didn't work as well for everyone. Someone complained: "Didn't do anything at all for my hair. I felt it made my hair look more fly away. Very disappointed."
But another piped up: "I have tried every shampoo and conditioner under the sun to try to control my curly hair. At last, I have found one that works. Although more expensive, you need very little each time you wash your hair. As I have got older, my hair is thinner than it was, so this product is perfect."

Eager shoppers often head to their nearest store in the early hours before the earlier opening time at 6am. While this may seem excessive, getting down early does help you bag the best deals. 'We've saved serious cash by changing our shopping days' SAVVY saver Julia Maggiorana, 28, is an account manager who lives in West London, with her husband and three-month-old daughter Matilde. She says: "Since going on maternity leave, we are down to one salary at home so it is important to me to save money where I can and get good deals. "My friends call me the Queen of the bargains but my biggest win was finding out you can get stuff with big discounts if you go to Lidl either on a Sunday evening or first thing Monday morning. "I found out when I went in last year looking to buy some baking trays. When I saw the price, I realised they were more expensive than they had been the previous week. "I asked the man behind the till why they were now double the price and he said 'It's a bit of secret but if you come on a Sunday evening or early on a Monday morning, you might find items have a bigger discount'. "That is when they stock up with new products and have to try and shift some of the old lines. "This baking tray was from a new stock. I went back on the Sunday evening and he was right. I paid £4 instead of £10, so a saving of £6. I was really proud of this discovery. "Ever since then I've carried on shopping either late or Sunday or first thing on Monday and I've picked up some real bargains, especially kitchen items from the Ernesto range. "I've found that if items don't sell, they will often drop the price by 50% on a Sunday evening. The best ones were a casserole dish which was around £30 discounted to £14.99 and it's great quality and a Silvercrest air fryer that was reduced to £29.99 instead of £49.99. I've saved at least £300 this year." Esther Portlock, 52, is a nurse who lives in Bristol with her husband Greg, also 52. She says: "All my friends call me the coupon queen. I absolutely love getting a discount. I use lots of vouchers and I also have a blue light card which gets me lots of deals. "But one of my best tips is to go to Morrisons at lunchtime on a Sunday. It's amazing what you can get - the bargains are ridiculous. I'm coeliac so have to buy a lot of gluten free food, which can be expensive. "This week I went into Morrisons on Sunday lunch time and I got my preferred gluten free tiger loaf for 35p instead of £3.50. It's great value and has lasted me all week. "I've got into a routine now. I go to Pilates with my friend. We have a coffee and then get to Morrisons for around 1pm. "We don't fight for it but there is sometimes a bit of a squabble between us over what is left as there are so many amazing prices. "I got a cottage pie for my husband for 50p, reduced from £5.50. I fill the freezer with whatever is on offer - meat joints, gluten free food, ready meals, whatever I can find. "There might be ready-made sandwiches for 35p and last week I got some cookies as a treat. They were 50p reduced from £2. Getting these savings helps me end my week on a high!"

Boots' Glossy Lip Balm gets three new additions to rival Summer Fridays

Metro journalists select and curate the products that feature on our site. If you make a purchase via links on this page we will earn commission – learn more Boots stocks a whole host of beauty brands, but its own collection is equally as impressive as other premium labels – if not more so. Case in point is Boots' Glossy Lip Balms, which are said to rival the cult Summer Fridays lip balms, but for a fraction of the price. With a sea of lip balms dropping on the beauty market every other day of the week, from Rhode Summer Fridays, Laneige, to Glossier and Glow Recipe, it can be hard to stand out. However, Boots' Glossy Lip Balms have cracked the code as this make-up essential has sold out due to popular demand. This nourishing and hydrating balm offers a deep conditioning to dry and cracked lips. The smooth texture applies seamlessly on your lips for a high-shine finish. Dropping in three new flavours, including Peach, Raspberry and Vanilla, with a subtle tint to match the name. Buy Now for £3 According to Boots, one Glossy Lip Balm has been sold every 30 seconds since its launch last year, which is quite remarkable. Boots has heard our cries for more Glossy Lip Balms and delivered with not just one, but three new flavours. Adding to the collection, which currently includes Coconut, Cherry and Mint, is Vanilla, Peach and Raspberry. The Glossy Lip Balms are ultra hydrating and conditioning, which is ideal for those susceptible to chapped lips. The formula is smooth yet leaves a glossy, high-shine finish. Plus, depending on the flavour you will find the balm has a hint of colour. For example, Vanilla is a clear finish, while Peach offers a subtle coral tint and Raspberry is a pinky-red hue. The best part is the Glossy Lip Balms retail for a very purse-friendly £3, while other competitors can fetch £23, which makes a saving of £20. In fact, you could purchase the full six Glossy Lip Balms from Boots and still have change left over. Not convinced? The original threesome has garnered glowing reviews, as well as sell-out status. More Trending One shopper's review read: 'Wasn't expecting much from this product, but I used it before I went to sleep, I woke up after a six hour sleep and the hydration was still on my lips, normally no other lip balm stays as long as this one except for the Laneige Sleep Mask, which is also a good lip balm for really dry lips, but it's pricy. It's such a good affordable lip balm you're getting 15ml of product!! I'm really amazed at this product and will be purchasing the coconut flavour. You can't really smell the mint flavour in this, there is a slight tingling, but it doesn't affect me.' A separate shopper, named Minky, gushed: 'Sooooo good! Does not feel sticky at all and makes my lips feel sooo soft. Will be getting more.' While Miah shared: 'Apparently a Glossier dupe, and surprisingly really good and hydrating. It's only a few pounds, so definitely would buy again. The mint scent/flavour is subtle which is really nice.' Boots' Glossy Lip Balms will launch online first on June 17, before dropping in store in July. Considering the three originals flew off the shelves, it's anticipated the new trio will follow suit.
