Abhisek Banerjee urges Indonesians to fight the menace of terrorism

Jakarta, May 30 (UNI) Trinamool Congress Leader Abhisek Banerjee, a member of India's all-party Parliamentary delegation, has called upon the people of Indonesia to combat terrorism in all forms, as the menace is not restricted to a particular region but has spread globally.
He said the Indian Parliamentary party delegation was in Indonesia to share the message of how to combat terrorism and highlighted Pakistan's role in the ghastly attack in Pahalgam on April 22.
"Pakistan has been nurturing, training, sheltering, and harbouring terrorists. Terrorism has become a global menace, and killing people in the name of religion is completely unacceptable," the TMC general secretary said.
"We were attacked on 22nd April. We waited patiently for 14 days for Pakistan to bring the perpetrators to justice. When they failed, India carried out precise, non-escalatory airstrikes, targeting only terrorist infrastructure. No civilian life was endangered, " Banerjee pointed out in the context of Operation Sindoor against the terror dens.
He said terrorist Ajmal Kasab, who was caught red-handed by Indian law enforcement agencies during the 26/11 attack, had admitted to being trained and nurtured in Pakistan.
But this time India successfully neutralised the very place where such terrorists are trained. Banerjee said and called upon the assembled people to unite and fight the menace of terrorism.
"We visited Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, meeting various key stakeholders and everyone shared the opinion that they must combat terrorism jointly as this is not just India's issue — it has become a global imperative," Banerjee said.
In Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, gunmen shot dead 25 tourists and a local pony owner after they picked them up based on faith, and killed all males in front of their wives and relatives.
"Despite attempts by external forces to divide us, our country stands united, and this is the first time in a very, very long time that our country has decided to send multiple delegations to different parts of the world to spread the message to fight terrorism unitedly," Banerjee said.
He said India's stance was clear, and despite attempts by the external forces to cause division, Indians remain united.
" I belong to the second-largest opposition party in India, which has 42 Membersm taking into account both the houses of Parliament. We are very clear in our approach. While we may have our differences with the ruling government, when it comes to protecting national interests and the sovereignty of the nation, we will always act in the best interest of the country," Banerjee reiterated.
He said India is the land of Mahatma Gandhi, Gautam Buddha, Rabindranath Tagore, and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, and it is a peace-loving nation. "We are always the last to talk about war or violence," Banerjee said while interacting with the Indonesian leaders and Indian diaspora.
He said Indonesia too, has been a victim of terrorism in the past. UNI PC BD SSP

India Remains A Very Strategic Ally In Asia Pacific: US

Washington: White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt praised India's role as a strategic ally in the Indo-Pacific region during a press briefing on Monday (US local time). She also highlighted the strong personal relationship between US President Donald Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Responding to a question from ANI about how the US views China's influence in the Indo-Pacific region, Leavitt said, "India remains a very strategic ally in the Asia Pacific and the President has a very good relationship with Prime Minister Modi, and he will continue to have that." The comments come as External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is currently in the United States to attend the QUAD Foreign Ministers' Meeting. On Monday, he inaugurated an exhibition at the United Nations titled "The Human Cost of Terrorism," which aims to draw global attention to state-sponsored terrorism. The QUAD is a diplomatic partnership between Australia, India, Japan, and the United States. It is committed to supporting an open, stable, and prosperous Indo-Pacific that is inclusive and resilient. The grouping's origin traces back to the joint humanitarian response to the December 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. Earlier, on June 18, it was confirmed that US President Donald Trump accepted Prime Minister Modi's invitation to attend the upcoming QUAD Summit in New Delhi later this year. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri had shared details of the phone conversation that took place between the two leaders on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Canada. "For the next meeting of QUAD, PM Modi invited President Trump to India. While accepting the invitation, President Trump said that he is excited to come to India," Mr Misri said in a video message. The White House spokesperson's remarks on India's importance in the Indo-Pacific came shortly after she addressed another ANI question about a possible trade deal between India and the US. Addressing the media, Leavitt said, "Yes, the President said that last week (that the US and India are very close to a trade deal), and it remains true. I just spoke to our Secretary of Commerce about it. He was in the Oval Office with the President. They are finalising these agreements, and you'll hear from the President and his trade team very soon when it comes to India."

White House confirms US-India trade deal very close: ‘You'll hear from President Trump soon'

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Monday (US local time) confirmed that the United States and India are close to finalising a trade agreementeal. Her comments came shortly after Trump voiced optimism about finalising the trade pact with India. "The President said that last week (that the US and India are very close to a trade deal), and it remains true. I just spoke to our Secretary of Commerce about it. He was in the Oval Office with the President. They are finalising these agreements, and you'll hear from the President and his trade team very soon when it comes to India," Leavitt said at a press briefing, as reported by ANI. Earlier, while speaking about reciprocal tariffs, President Trump stated that the US is pushing for a "full trade barrier dropping" and greater access to the Indian market, though he admitted uncertainty about achieving that goal."India, I think we are going to reach a deal where we have the right to go and do trade. Right now, it's restricted. You can't walk in there, you can't even think about it. We are looking to get a full trade barrier dropping, which is unthinkable and I am not sure that that is going to happen. But as of this moment, we agree that going to India and trade..." Trump said. During the briefing, Leavitt also praised India's role as a strategic ally to the US in the Indo-Pacific region. Issued GR in interest of students not any party: Fadnavis

Mumbai, June 30 (UNI) Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today said that the state government has decided to cancel the GR issued regarding compulsory teaching of Hindi language in schools in the state from class 1 look at the interests of the students and not in the interest of any party. "We will not look after the interests of any party. We will look after the interests of the students of Maharashtra only," he said. He further said that the government has appointed a committee to decide whether to adopt the three-language formula in the state or not and informed that the committee will decide now. Reacting on the Thackeray cousins' statement that this is a matter of unity of the Marathi people, Fadnavis said that when Uddhav Thackeray was the Chief Minister, a leader who was considered to be his right-hand had recommended making Hindi compulsory and Uddhav Thackeray had accepted that report. Therefore, the decision on making Hindi compulsory was made during his tenure, he claimed and accused such persons of being two-faced. When asked if BJP is trying to prevent the estranged Thackeray cousins -- Uddhav Thackeray and MNS president Raj Thackeray from coming together, Fadnavis taunted "I did not issue a GR to prevent the Thackeray cousins from coming together. Did I stop the two leaders from coming together? I don't care if they come together, play cricket, play tennis, have dinner or do anything." Meanwhile, the state government has cancelled two GRs issued regarding compulsory teaching of Hindi in the state schools from class 1. UNI SP SS
