Rupee falls to four-month low on firmer greenback, state-run banks dollar bids

MUMBAI, July 29 (Reuters) - The Indian rupee declined to its weakest level since mid-March in early trade on Tuesday, as a slump in the euro sharply raised the dollar index, and demand for the greenback from state-run banks added to the pressure. The rupee hit a low of 86.9150 against the U.S. dollar before paring losses to 86.8725, down 0.2% on the day, as of 11:10 a.m. IST. In recent sessions, the Indian currency has also been troubled by persistent outflows from local equities, amid a tepid quarterly earnings season, alongside muted prospects of a U.S.-India trade deal ahead of the August 1 deadline. While India is still awaiting concrete developments in negotiations, sentiment surrounding a deal between the European Union and the U.S. turned sour with leaders in France and Germany lamenting the outcome. The euro was last quoted a tad lower at 1.1584 after falling more than 1% against the dollar on Monday. Asian currencies, meanwhile, were moderately weaker between 0.2% and 0.4%. "With net short dollar positions looking crowded and easing, the U.S. dollar could get some reprieve in the near term," MUFG said in a note. But the focus will also be on the Federal Reserve's policy decision due on Wednesday wherein a dovish tilt could lead to renewed U.S. dollar weakness, supporting the broader Asian FX outlook, the note added. On the day, traders also pointed to an uptick in very-near tenor dollar-rupee swap rates spurred by anticipation of IPO-related cash dollar inflows alongside maturity of the Reserve Bank of India's forward dollar positions at the end of the month. The spot-week USD/INR swap rate, for instance, was quoting at an implied rate of about 0.60 paisa per day, well above the prevailing overnight swap rate of about 0.30 paisa. Trump caps his Scottish visit by opening new golf course

Balmedie (Scotland), Jul 29 (AP) President Donald Trump is opening a new golf course bearing his name in Scotland on Tuesday, capping a five-day foreign trip designed around promoting his family's luxury properties and playing golf. Trump and his sons Eric and Donald Jr are cutting the ceremonial ribbon and playing the first-ever round at the new Trump course in the village of Balmedie, on the northern coast of Scotland. Also from the country's north is the president's late mother, Mary Anne MacLeod, who was born on the Isle of Lewis, immigrated to New York and died in 2000 at age 88. 'My mother loved Scotland," Trump said during a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday at another one of his golf courses, Turnberry, on Scotland's southern coast. 'It's different when your mother was born here." Trump used his trip to meet with Starmer and reach a trade framework for tariffs between the US and the European Union's 27 member countries — though scores of key details remain to be hammered out. The overseas jaunt let Trump escape Washington's sweaty summer humidity but also the still-raging scandal over the files related to Jeffrey Epstein. But it was mostly built around golf — and walking the new course before it officially begins selling rounds to the public on August 13, adding to a lengthy list of ways Trump has used the White House to promote his brand. Trump's assets are in a trust, and his sons are running the family business while he's in the White House. But any business generated at the course will ultimately enrich the president when he leaves office. The new golf course will be the third owned by the Trump Organisation in Scotland. Trump purchased Turnberry in 2014 and owns another course near Aberdeen, which opened in 2012. Trump golfed on Saturday as protesters took to the streets, and on Sunday. He invited Starmer, who famously doesn't golf, aboard Air Force One so the prime minister could get a private tour of his Aberdeen property before Tuesday's ceremonial opening. 'Even if you play badly, it's still good," Trump said of golfing on his course over the weekend. 'If you had a bad day on the golf course, it's OK. It's better than other days." Trump even found time at Turnberry to praise its renovated ballroom, which he said he'd paid lavishly to upgrade — even suggesting that he might install one like it at the White House. 'I could take this one, drop it right down there," Trump joked. 'And it would be beautiful." Rs 250000000000000: Elon Musk to earn massive amount of money using AI in Tesla, plan is to...

Elon Musk made a surprise appearance (virtually) at the Tesla Owners of Silicon Valley event in San Mateo, California on Saturday. The event brought together Tesla fans from around the world. During his talk, Musk made a bold claim that caught everyone's attention. He said, 'Tesla could make 1 billion Optimus robots every year in the future' which aims to grab a huge share of the 20 billion robot market. Musk estimated that even if each robot costs just Rs. 2.5 lakh (around USD 3,000), the total yearly revenue could reach Rs. 2,500 lakh crore (USD 30 trillion). Musk admitted that this goal is still like a 'dream in the sky', but he believes the progress in artificial intelligence is happening at a speed like a 'supersonic tsunami.' Tesla's Optimus Robot: Production to begin by 2025 Tesla is working on building humanoid robots called Optimus, using its advanced AI and manufacturing technologies. According to Musk, the latest version, Optimus Version 3, is now ready for mass production. By the end of 2025, Tesla plans to build a few hundred robots, even though the earlier goal was to produce thousands. From 2026 onwards, large-scale production is expected to begin. These robots are being designed to help with everyday tasks and if Musk's vision turns real, we could see a future where humanoid robots are as common as smartphones today. AI and Robots: Could this be world's biggest future market? Elon Musk believes that robots will be the biggest product of the future and he's not alone. Even NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang agrees with this vision. According to tech analyst Shellye Bolour from Futurum, the world spends around Rs. 4,100 lakh crore (USD 50 trillion) every year on human labor. If robots start taking over some of this work, it could lead to a massive transformation in the global economy. Musk says this shift shouldn't be feared. Instead, he calls it the 'age of abundance', where machines help improve life and increase prosperity. Tesla shares latest update Tesla investors are used to stock market swings. After the company released its Q2 earnings on Wednesday, its stock fell 8 per cent on Thursday, but then bounced back by 4 per cent on Friday. So far in 2025, Tesla shares are down 22 per cent, though they had also seen a 44 per cent rise over the past 12 months. The journey of Tesla in both AI and the stock market continues to be full of surprises. Key points for Tesla investors Here are some important things that investors should keep in mind when it comes to Tesla: More than 40 per cent of Tesla's traded shares are held by retail (small) investors. This is much higher than the average of around 25 per cent seen in other 'Magnificent Seven' tech stocks like Apple, Microsoft, or Google. Tesla stock is currently trading at 180 times its estimated 2025 earnings (P/E ratio). That's extremely high compared to most companies. In fact, in the entire S&P 500 index, only Palantir has a higher valuation right now. Tesla's stock often reacts strongly to major events or even Elon Musk's comments, especially during high-profile events like tech showcases or takeovers. Investors need to stay alert, as Musk's statements can influence stock prices almost instantly.
