Aspirants distressed over far-off NEET-PG centres, IMA-JDN urges ministry to act
The move came after aspirants across the country reported being allotted exam centres in far-off states for the medical entrance test, triggering widespread distress and anxiety.

With the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Postgraduate (NEET-PG) scheduled on August 3, the IMA-JDN has urged the Union Health Ministry to direct the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) to reopen the exam centre change portal so that the affected candidates can avail the option of choosing centres within their home state or nearby locations.

In the representation, the IMA-JDN emphasised that while some students have received centres in nearby cities, thousands of candidates have been assigned exam centres in distant states, for which they have to undertake long, expensive, and stressful journeys to unfamiliar destinations.
The doctors' body said in a statement, "This move is causing much concern, especially among the economically weaker sections, ladies, and those from remote or rural regions."

"This disparity not only affects fairness but could negatively impact students' mental well-being and performance in this critical, once-a-year exam," it said. "IMA-JDN remains committed to ensuring equity and accessibility in all aspects of medical education and examination systems," the doctors' body added.

Ahmedabad: Data tabled in the Lok Sabha on Aug 1 indicated that Gujarat, with 28,178 identified sickle cell disease patients, has the third-largest patient base in the country. "The condition is marked by abnormal haemoglobin that makes red blood cells rigid and take the shape of a sickle. They often block the blood flow, leading to anaemia," a public health expert said. "Gujarat has recently launched a drive to understand the genetic makeup of the tribal population," the expert added.

Claims of empanelled hospitals under Ayushman Bharat being settled: Haryana govt
Chandigarh, Aug 5 (PTI) The Haryana government Tuesday said that the claims of empanelled hospitals under the Ayushman Bharat scheme are being settled. This comes days after the state unit of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) said that 650 private hospitals across the state will stop treating patients under the scheme from August 7 if pending claims are not cleared by then. Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda had also recently claimed that the government owed over Rs 400 crore to the private hospitals and said it was playing with its scheme as well as the lives and health of the public. According to a state government statement, Haryana's State Health Agency (SHA) 'acknowledges letter issued by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Haryana dated July 28, wherein the IMA has expressed its decision to halt services under the Ayushman Bharat — Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) starting from August 7, citing outstanding payments as the reason". In this context, the Haryana SHA wishes to clarify the current status of payments, claim processing, grievance redressal mechanisms and empanelment procedures to provide transparency and reassurance to all stakeholders, the statement said. 'We are pleased to state that the budget has been received from the State Government on August 4, 2025, and accordingly, payment to empanelled hospitals has been initiated on a first-in-first-out basis. This development reflects the state government's commitment to ensuring timely disbursement of funds and uninterrupted delivery of healthcare services under the Ayushman Bharat scheme," it said. It further said that the SHA has already processed and paid claims submitted by empanelled hospitals up to the first week of May 2025. 'A total of Rs 2,900 crore has been disbursed to hospitals since the inception of the scheme. During the financial year 2025-26, up to July 16, 2025, an amount of Rs 240.63 crore has been received from the State and Central Governments and fully utilized for settlement of eligible claims," it said. Claims submitted by the empanelled hospitals are processed by a team of 50 doctors through the online platform of the National Health Authority (NHA). The NHA is the apex body responsible for implementing the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana scheme. 'The portal ensures a transparent and impartial claim allocation process by randomly assigning cases to processors. All deductions are made strictly as per NHA guidelines and only when adequate clinical justification or documentation is lacking. 'Before any rejection or deduction, hospitals are given an opportunity to upload the required supporting documents such as vital charts, clinical images, OT notes, and test reports. If a hospital disagrees with a deduction, it may file an appeal through the portal. These appeals are reviewed by a designated Medical Audit Committee," the state government statement said. It said the SHA has also taken cognisance of the grievances raised by hospitals regarding payment delays, claim rejections and non-processing of claims. To date, over 400 grievances from empanelled hospitals have been formally registered and resolved through the Central Grievance Redressal Management System 2.0 portal, which is an online web-enabled system developed to redress the Ayushman Bharat Yojana-related grievances. The SHA maintains regular communication with the Haryana IMA to address their concerns, the statement said. 'SHA, Haryana remains committed to ensuring transparency, timely disbursement of payments, and strengthening public-private partnerships in healthcare delivery. Regular updates on the payment status and other operational matters are being shared with stakeholders through official channels," it said. NEET PG 2025: What is the expected cut-off?
Now that the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) held the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET PG) exam on August 3, medical aspirants are now wondering about the expected cut-off. The NEET PG cut-off will be announced along with the NEET PG result 2025. Over 2.42 lakh candidates took NEET PG this year. The exam was conducted online in a single shift across 301 cities and in 1052 test centres. According to Gaurav Tyagi, medical counsellor at Career Xpert, the cut-off marks for NEET PG 2025 are expected to be within a close range to that of the previous year. For the general and EWS category candidates, the qualifying percentile is at 50th, with an estimated cut-off score of 290 to 310 out of 800. Candidates belonging to the SC, ST and OBC categories are expected to qualify for a minimum of the 40th percentile, with the marks ranging between 270 and 290. For the UR-PwBD category, a 45th percentile is considered qualifying, with an expected score lying somewhere between 250 and 270. According to admission counsellor Anubhav Garg, founder of TAB India, a very good attempt in the exam would involve answering around 160 to 170 questions, which could result in an estimated score between 170 and 180 marks. He also shared anticipated cut-offs based on percentile thresholds. For candidates in the General (UR) and EWS categories, the expected cut-off — corresponding to the 50th percentile — is likely to be in the range of 275 to 320 marks. For SC, ST, and OBC candidates, the cut-off — aligned with the 40th percentile — is expected to fall between 230 and 275 marks, although this range may vary depending on the source. For candidates under the UR PwD category, the expected cut-off, based on the 45th percentile, is estimated to be between 250 and 290 marks. The NEET PG paper of 2025, according to Tyagi, was of an easy-to-moderate difficulty level, thereby hinting at the possibility of a slightly higher cut-off this year in comparison to 2023 and 2024. 'However, aspirants have to connect with the fact that qualifying cut-offs only make candidates eligible for counselling. Admission cut-offs, however, wherein seats in a particular specialty or college are allotted, are far more severe for highly sought-after specialisations, especially dermatology, radiology and general medicine,' Tyagi added. As per Garg, the overall NEET PG paper was easy to moderate. A large proportion of the questions were clinical and case-based questions. 'Around 160 questions were identical or extremely similar to previous years' questions and they were also adopted (normal questions). Section B was consistently the hardest section, Section A had moderate questions and section C had easy questions,' he added. The NEET PG 2025 cut-off is the minimum marks common for qualification on the basis of the percentile fixed by the authorities. The qualifying cut-offs are different for different categories and undergo certain changes depending upon the difficulty level of the examination, the number of candidates who appeared for the exam, and the total number of postgraduate medical seats across India. Last year, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), in consultation with the National Medical Commission (NMC), reduced the NEET PG qualifying percentile across all categories to percentile 5.
