Hamilton and Verstappen say Grand Prix should not have been suspended

Lewis Hamilton said he agreed with Max Verstappen that the start of the Belgian Grand Prix should not have been suspended.
Verstappen branded race director Rui Marques' move to bring out the red flag after a single formation lap in the rain at Spa-Francorchamps as 'silly' and 'way too cautious.'
Following a delay of one hour and 20 minutes - which the FIA said was due to 'poor visibility' - the race eventually got under way, albeit in a rolling start after four laps behind the safety car.
Hamilton was able to switch from intermediates to dry tyres after just seven racing laps.
And when it was put to Hamilton, who made up 11 places to finish seventh, that Verstappen claimed the race should have started immediately, he replied: 'I would agree. My car was set up for that, and they waited for it to dry. Especially at the end. It was a dry line with hardly any spray.'
There have been 49 driver/rider fatalities at Spa-Francorchamps in the last 100 years - most recently Dutch 18-year-old Dilano Van 't Hoff in 2023, and Frenchman Anthonie Hubert in a Formula Two race four years previously.
The last Formula One race at Silverstone also took place in wet conditions, and Hamilton, 40, continued: 'It was just a reaction to Silverstone. We sat down and spoke about it after Silverstone. Lots of drivers in the last race said we shouldn't have restarted, because of a lack of visibility. And as soon as someone up ahead said, 'visibility is pretty bad' which, it wasn't great but it wasn't as bad as the last race, they just decided to wait.
'They still did a good job. Of course we did miss some of the extreme wet weather racing, which would have been nice. But for some reason the spray here is like a fog.'
In 2021, the rain-hit race was abandoned after just two laps behind the safety car. Defending the decision to delay the start of Sunday's event, Hamilton's Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc said: 'On a track like this you cannot forget about the history and what has happened in the past so I would rather be safe than go early.'
Oscar Piastri, who won in Belgium to extend his championship lead over Lando Norris to 16 points, continued: 'We have given the FIA feedback that we would much rather be on the safe side.
'If you were being picky you might say we could have done one fewer lap behind the safety car but is the risk worth it? 'The first time we tried to start the race, with only Lando ahead, I couldn't see a thing, so you can imagine what it is like for the guys at the back.'

McLaren boss anticipates Norris and Piastri ‘swapping paint again'
PA Media/DPA London McLaren boss Zak Brown said he is 'fully anticipating' that Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will collide again this season as the intra-team tension intensifies to be crowned champion of the world. Norris heads into Formula One's summer break just nine points behind Piastri in the standings following his third win from his last four appearances at Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix. Piastri came close to taking Norris out on the penultimate lap as they duelled for the win. There was a similar narrow escape between the McLaren drivers at the Red Bull Ring in June, a fortnight after Norris ran into the back of Piastri in Canada. 'There is competitiveness brewing but we are not feeling any tension,' insisted Brown. 'As the championship builds, I am sure that tension will grow. We are fully anticipating them swapping paint again at some point but I am very confident it wouldn't be deliberate, which is when you get into problems and get bad blood. 'I don't think they will fall out because of the communication, trust and respect we all have and they have for each other. We are very fortunate to have the two personalities that we have and I am looking forward to them racing each other. They are free to race. And if something bubbles up we will deal with it. 'It is not the elephant in the room because we talk about it. We meet every Sunday morning, they know each other's strategy, and we are totally transparent. 'I have said to both of them individually: 'Has your team-mate done anything to p*** you off?' Never. And that's what they have both said. Fundamentally you've got two great, respectful guys and their relationship today is the best it has ever been.' Norris drove well at the Hungaroring but could count himself somewhat fortunate to win after he qualified behind Piastri and then dropped two places to fifth on the first lap. A one-stop strategy reversed his fortunes but Norris admitted afterwards that he is 'not making life easy for myself' and there have been doubts as to the 25-year-old's title credentials. Nico Rosberg, the 2016 world champion, said recently that 'the championship is going to be decided in Lando's head'. But Brown responded: 'Lando is in a great place. There was also a time Lando couldn't win from pole position, according to the world, and he has won four of his last five races from pole, so I think this kind of narrative around Lando is not accurate. 'He is open, he kind of wears his emotions on his sleeve, everyone is different, and Lando of a year ago could maybe be more critical on himself but he is in a great place, I've never seen him in a better place and he is doing an awesome job.'

Al Duhail sign Frankfurt's Europa League winner Brazilian Tuta
TNN/QNA Doha Al Duhail Club has announced the signing of Brazilian defender Lucas Silva Melo, nicknamed 'Tuta', from German club Eintracht Frankfurt. The 26-year-old player, who plays as a center-back, has great experience, having started his professional career with Brazilian club Sao Paulo before moving to the German league through Eintracht Frankfurt. He was then loaned to the Belgian side Kortrijk before his transfer to Al Duhail was announced. Tuta was part of the Frankfurt team that won the Europa League in 2022. He played 186 matches for Frankfurt who signed him in 2019 from FC Sao Paulo and fielded him from 2020 after a one-year loan to Belgium's Kortrijk. 'Tuta has been an important part of our team in recent years and has played a major role in Eintracht's development and success in that time,' board member for sport Markus Krosche said. 'After winning the UEFA Europa League, he'll forever be part of the club's history. As such, we naturally agreed to his request to move clubs. We wish him all the best for his future career.'
