Mint2 days ago
Stock market today: Indian stock markets opened with some pressure on Tuesday as worries regarding US President Donald Trump's new tariff measures came to the forefront. However, investors seemed to adopt a cautious "wait and watch" stance, looking for more clarity on the situation. Currently, the domestic benchmark indices are trading flat.
The Nifty 50 index started at 25,427.85, down 33.45 points or 0.13%, while the Sensex experienced a slight dip, opening at 83,387.03, down by 55.47 points or 0.07%.
Experts noted that the market's reaction was mild and not panicked, unlike the period from April 2nd to April 9th. In the last 90 days, the markets have shown increased resilience, moving past the uncertainties surrounding Trump's policies to focus on his actions.
On the technical front, Sachin Gupta of 5paisa believes Nifty 50's near term support and resistance to be at 25,180/25,000 and 25,600/25,740. Gupta recommends two stocks to buy in the near-term. Here's what he says about the overall market.
The Nifty 50 index ended the session nearly flat to close at 25,461.3, as the market struggled to find direction. The overall market sentiment remained subdued, with 28 constituents declining and 22 advancing, indicating a cautious tone among investors. Most of the other indices ended in red. Midcap and Smallcap indices were marginally down. Sectorally too, apart from FMCG and Oil & Gas, others witnessed weak performance.
Technically, Nifty 50 started the week on an uncertain note as investors searched for a fresh set of triggers. 20D EMA continues to offer support and RSI is supportive of bullish momentum. Near term support and resistance are at 25,180/25,000 and 25,600/25,740.
On shares to buy on Tuesday, Sachin Gupta recommends two stocks on Tuesday — Balrampur Chini Mills Ltd, and Metropolis Healthcare Ltd.
On the daily scale, the stock is displaying a strong bullish setup, having recently confirmed an Inverse Head & Shoulders pattern breakout, which is a classic reversal signal indicating potential upside.
Following the breakout, the stock is consolidating around the neckline, suggesting strength and a healthy base formation before the next leg higher.
Additionally, the stock is trading above its 21-day EMA, reflecting short-term momentum in favour of the bulls. A positive crossover in the MACD further reinforces the bullish bias, while rising volume during the breakout and consolidation phase adds credibility to the uptrend, signaling increasing investor interest and potential for continued upward movement.
Hence, traders are advised to hold their existing positions, with short-term support placed at 570 levels and immediate resistance seen near 630 levels. A decisive move above this resistance could open the door for further gains.
On the daily timeframe, the stock has given a consolidation breakout, accompanied by a positive moving average crossover between the 50-day and 100-day EMAs, signaling a strengthening trend. This breakout is supported by a surge in volume and bullish price action, confirming strong buying interest.
Additionally, a positive crossover in the RSI further reinforces the bullish momentum.
On the weekly chart, the stock has managed to move above the 50% Fibonacci retracement level, indicating a recovery of prior losses and the potential for a sustained uptrend. These combined signals suggest strong upside potential in the near term.
Traders are advised to maintain their holding positions and also consider fresh buying around 1,820, with upside targets of 1,945 and 2,040, while maintaining a strict stop loss at 1,700 on a closing basis.

Dollar's slide may help IT add 70–300 basis points to Q1 revenues

ETtech Currency is set to overshadow volumes as growth drivers in the June-quarter toplines at Indian tech powerhouses, with a falling dollar giving the anticipated tepid sales some much-needed ballast amid an evident revenue slack in the industry's traditional money spinners either side of the Atlantic.A retreat for the dollar, which gives the rupee a tailwind, should boost Indian tech revenues by 70-300 basis points in the June quarter, analysts said. One basis point is a hundredth of a percentage point. The currency impact cited above, therefore, should expand revenues by 0.7 to 3 percentage the April-June quarter, most major currencies have appreciated on average versus the US Dollar (USD). For instance, the Indian Rupee (INR) appreciated 1%, the Pound Sterling (GBP) 6.2%, the Euro (EUR) 8%, the Australian Dollar (AUD) 2.6% and the Japanese Yen (JPY) grew 5.5%. A weak dollar against a basket of currencies will lead to 100-200 bps of on-quarter cross-currency tailwinds, Motilal Oswal said in a report. HSBC Global Research estimates the impact to range between 80-450 basis points. These movements are higher for companies with greater exposure to EUR, GBP and JPY such as Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), HCL Technologies, Coforge, KPIT, data from Kotak Institutional Equities showed. Currency movements are crucial because Indian IT firms earn a large share of their revenues in foreign currencies but spend in INR -- most of it on employee wages in India. Typically, a stronger dollar helps gain more revenues as most IT majors' over 40-50% revenue comes from the US. However, when the dollar weakens against other currencies such as GBP, EUR, or JPY, revenues earned in those regions helps boost the reported toplines in instance, India's largest software service provider, TCS, has the least dollar dependency among tier-1 companies and derives 50% of its revenues from non-USD currencies. It is expected to net a 211 basis points revenue upside in the second quarter of the ongoing fiscal. The maximum positive impact could be recorded by mid-sized firm KPIT at 299 basis points because it derives a substantial 72% of its revenues from non-USD markets, data by Kotak Institutional Equities showed."During the quarter, the Indian rupee has appreciated around 1% against the dollar which typically is not beneficial for exporters,' said Sumit Pokharna, IT analyst with Kotak Securities. 'However, the rupee has depreciated against other currencies in the 2.5-8% range. This is providing tailwinds for software services exporters on the US$ revenue growth from the previous quarter.'He added that tighter controls by companies on travel costs and hikes and some pulling back on compensation, will aid margins stability for large IT companies while expansion for select mid IT at a time when discretionary spending remains muted, and deal closure timelines are elongated, the exposure to other currencies is helping IT firms, Pokharna the flip side, companies like Persistent Systems and Mphasis, which have among the highest exposure to the US at 85% and 82%, respectively, the sequential benefit of the currency movement will be contained at 69 basis points and 75 basis points, respectively. Dollar catches breath, Brazil real slides on tariff threat; bitcoin near record high

The U.S. dollar slipped further from a two-week high versus major peers on Thursday, as President Donald Trump's latest tariff salvos failed to shake markets, except in Brazil where a threatened 50% levy sent the real sliding as much as 2.8% overnight. ADVERTISEMENT The dollar felt additional weight from a sharp decline in U.S. Treasury yields following a strong auction of 10-year notes on Wednesday, tempering worries about the "Sell America" narrative that had seen Treasuries, the dollar and Wall Street stocks sold off in tandem earlier this year. Overall, investors were hungry for riskier assets with the most damaging tariff scenarios looking increasingly unlikely, helping Nvidia become the first stock ever with a $4 trillion valuation, and lifting cryptocurrency bitcoin to an all-time peak just shy of $112,000. Sentiment also drew support from minutes of the Federal Reserve's last meeting, with most policymakers of the opinion that interest rate cuts will be appropriate later this year. The dollar index, which measures the currency against six major peers, eased 0.1% to 97.286, extending a 0.2% decline from Wednesday, the same day that it pushed to the highest since June 25 at 97.837 before losing momentum. With the exception of Brazil, Trump's latest batch of letters to trade partners contained tariff rates close to those already proposed in his original "Liberation Day" announcement on April 2, as had been the case with other letters this week. ADVERTISEMENT Trump has also left the door open to extensions beyond the new August 1 deadline if countries make compelling proposals. Brazil had originally been slated for just the baseline 10% levy, but Trump cited not just trade practices but the treatment of its former president, Jair Bolsonaro. ADVERTISEMENT Bolsonaro, who was friendly with Trump when they were both in office, is on trial on charges of plotting a coup to stop current President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva from taking office in January 2023. The real plunged as low as 5.6047 per dollar for the first time since June 6 overnight, and was last changing hands at 5.5826 per dollar. ADVERTISEMENT "It is a reminder of Trump's penchant for tariffs as a tool against a wide range of grievances, trade fairness or otherwise," Taylor Nugent, senior markets economist at National Australia Bank, wrote in a client note. While the latest batch of letters failed to move markets much outside of Brazil, Nugent said, "more interesting is the letters we haven't seen, with India, the EU, and Taiwan conspicuous examples." ADVERTISEMENT Trump and other officials have said several times lately that a deal with India is close, while the European Union is also edging toward a framework agreement. The euro gained 0.2% to $1.1747 on Thursday, while sterling added 0.2% to $1.3612. The dollar drooped 0.3% to 145.84 yen and fell 0.3% to 0.7922 Swiss franc. Bitcoin crept up 0.3% to around $111,114, inching back towards the all-time high hit overnight of $111,988.90. "The new record high came on improved risk sentiment," IG analyst Tony Sycamore wrote in a note to clients. "While the push to new highs hasn't yet sparked the fireworks the market might have been hoping for, there is scope for bitcoin to make further gains towards $120,000."
