City bizman, Delhi associates under EAGLE lens for ‘cocaine abuse' at star hotel

Hyderabad: A city-based industrialist's son and a group of Delhi-based businessmen are under the scanner of Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) sleuths after they allegedly abused cocaine in a luxury hotel room in Madhapur. The bust follows the arrest of a consumer near RTC Crossroads, who led officials to a wider drug network involving interstate links. The suspect was picked up and subjected to a drug test, which returned positive for cocaine. On interrogation, the accused was identified as the son of a prominent city-based biscuit factory chairman. According to investigators, the man admitted to having first abused cocaine during his MBA days in London nearly two decades ago. After returning to Hyderabad, he allegedly continued his drug use with the help of friends who sourced cocaine through their contacts in Goa. While some of his friends later shifted abroad—to Ukraine and the United States—the accused remained in the city and reportedly maintained his drug habit, investigators said. The current case took shape when, two years ago, the accused attended a business conference in Delhi and met some businessmen. One of them, who reportedly owns a school in Delhi, kept in touch with the Hyderabad-based businessman. A few days ago, he and his associates visited Hyderabad and checked into a star hotel in Madhapur. They reached out to the biscuit factory owner's son, who joined them at the hotel. During their interaction, the accused learned that the Delhi businessman consumed cocaine and expressed a desire to join him. The group then moved to another room where they allegedly snorted cocaine. "The Delhi-based businessman had brought four grams of cocaine. After they all consumed it, the remaining quantity was retained by the city-based businessman. He later used the leftover drug during a birthday party at a residence in Jubilee Hills, along with another friend," police said. Following his arrest, the accused expressed a willingness to seek help and has reportedly been admitted to a de-addiction centre, police added.
