Japan's fringe far-right Sanseito party made a dramatic leap in the upper house elections, gaining 14 seats and capitalizing on public anger over inflation, political scandals, and fears of immigration. The party, known for its nationalist "Japanese First" platform and vaccine conspiracy rhetoric, emerged from YouTube during the COVID-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba's ruling coalition lost its majority in both houses for the first time in 70 years, intensifying calls for his resignation. As Japan braces for looming US tariffs and economic uncertainty, the political landscape is shifting sharply to the right.#JapanElection2025 #SanseitoRise #IshibaCrisis #JapaneseFirst #RightWingSurge #FarRightJapan #LDPLoss #PopulistPolitics #JapanPolitics #UpperHouseShakeup #JapanVotes #TokyoPolitics #NationalistWave #Sanseito

Operation Sindoor to feature in NCERT lessons for Classes 3 to 12

NCERT is preparing two 'modules' on Operation Sindoor – separate publications that will not be part of the textbooks – one for classes 3 to 8, and another for classes 9 to 12, sources in the Education Ministry said. The achievements of India and the armed forces will be described in the eight to 10-page module. The aim is to make students aware of India's military power and Pakistan's defeat, sources said. The NCERT has a set of modules – short publications on specific topics – including some that were launched in May this year. The modules for classes 1 to 12 are available on the NCERT's website. Separate modules have been prepared for COVID-19 and its impact on public health and social life, 'India's digital success and power', the Chandrayaan-3 mission, the G20 summit that was held in India in 2023, and 'Swachhata'. Each module contains stories, activities, and examples that illustrate the topic, and serves as additional material, beyond the textbook, that schools can use. Operation Sindoor was launched by the Indian Armed Forces in May, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. It was launched weeks after the Pahalgam terror attack in April. In the ongoing monsoon session, Parliament is set to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor next week.

It started in a jail cell. Now, it fights to free those wrongfully jailed

It started in a jail cell. Now, it fights to free those wrongfully jailed Mohammed Wajihuddin TNN Jul 26, 2025, 21:27 IST IST Besides its work on the 7/11 case, the Innocence Network India is helping other terror accused with legal aid A narrow, rain-soaked lane in Mumbai's Vikhroli leads to a small ground-floor room. Inside, a few chairs, a chatai, shelves of books, and maps of India and the world hang on the wall. This unassuming space is the 'secretariat' of Innocence Network India , a coalition of lawyers, prison‑rights activists and civil society groups who work for 'the rights of those wrongfully prosecuted or convicted, especially under terrorism charges .' On July 21, when the Bombay High Court acquitted all 12 men convicted of the 2006 Mumbai train blasts — also known as the 7/11 bombings — some credit was due to this little-known coalition that kept the pressure alive, along with the efforts of the Maharashtra unit office of Jamiatul Ulema-e-Hind . Wahid Shaikh, who helped found the network, is visibly happy, and yet combative, seated in his two-room tenement. It's where Shaikh, a school teacher in Nagpada, central Mumbai, spends most of his after-school hours running Acquit Undertrial, his one-man YouTube channel that amplifies cases of alleged wrongful prosecution and demands compensation for acquitted convicts. It was here that he recorded a congratulatory message for the accused and their families the night before the verdict. 'I was 100% sure that the High Court would exonerate them. I recorded it before the order was pronounced,' says Shaikh. He should know. He was one of 13 men arrested under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) for the train blasts. He spent nine years in Arthur Road Jail before being acquitted in 2015. The only one to walk free at the time.

Chinese President Xi Jinping Defence of Japan 2025 white paper update: In a significant development impacting the security situation in the Indian Ocean, Japan, known as the country of samurais has published its Defence of Japan 2025 white paper. Discussing about the details escalating threats from a more united bloc of authoritarian countries, specifically China, Russia, and North Korea, the white paper has been sanctioned by Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba's cabinet. Here are all the details you need to know about Japan's recent step against China. What does Defence of Japan 2025 white paper say on China? Cautioning about a swiftly deteriorating security landscape in the region caused by increasing military collaboration among these nations, the Defence of Japan 2025 white paper delivers a straightforward evaluation of China, labelling it as the 'greatest strategic challenge' facing Japan. In addition to this, the official white paper of Japan emphasises that China's military aspirations present an 'unprecedented and greatest strategic challenge' to both Japan and the global community. As per a report by the Eurasian Times, the document warns that China's expanding military presence, assertive maritime actions, and strengthening connections with other authoritarian governments could 'seriously impact' Japan's national security. This white paper scrutinises CRINK, a loosely connected bloc that some observers refer to as the 'Axis of Upheaval.' Although not a formal alliance, the rising diplomatic, military, and economic collaboration among these four nations is perceived as a significant threat to the rules-based international order, according to the Eurasian Times. What has Japan's Defence Minister said on China? Japan's Defence Minister Gen Nakatani expressed strong concerns: 'The current international order is being profoundly challenged, and Japan is in the most challenging and intricate security situation of the post-war period.' Notably, Japan has delivered its most severe warning to date regarding China's growing military footprint, stating in the white paper that activities from Beijing now pose a 'serious impact' on national security.
