Rekha once kissed Abhishek Bachchan at an award show; Amitabh Bachchan's reaction sitting next to Aishwarya Rai was...
Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan's love story with Umraoo Jaan actress Rekha is one of the most-discussed about topics in Bollywood's history. Both of them collaborated in several iconic movies such as Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Do Anjaane and Mr. Natwarlal . But, after Silsila , the two stopped working and were only spotted at award shows or other public occasions. However, there was a time when Rekha surprised everyone when she shared a warm hug with actor Abhishek Bachchan, son of Amitabh Bachchan at an award show. What was Amitabh Bachchan's reaction when Rekha kissed Abhishek?
Rekha, known for her affectionate and warm personality, reportedly greeted Abhishek with a kiss, while Amitabh Bachchan was sitting next to her daughter-in-law, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Although Big B's expression was normal, but he did observe the kiss and chose not to react.
At the award function, Rekha wore a stunning mustard-yellow sequin saree. She bended over and rested her hand over Abhishek's cheeks, who was seen decked up in a black suit. Aishwarya, who was sitting next to Amitabh, looked ethereal in a black shimmery saree, paired with a sleeveless blouse and middle-parted sleek bun. Big B, on other hand, was twinning with his son, in a formal black suit.
Was Rekha truly in love with Amitabh Bachchan?
In 2004, Rekha dropped an interesting bomb when she attended Simi Garewal's talk show Rendezvous. When asked Rekha if she was ever in love with Amitabh Bachchan, the veteran actress had admitted, 'Absolutely. Duh, that's a dumb question. I have yet to come across a single man, woman, child who can help but fall completely, passionately, insanely, desperately, hopelessly in love with him. So why should I be singled out? What do I deny? I'm not in love with him? Of course I am. Duniya bhar ka love aap le lijiyega and add some more – I feel that for that person. Bottomline.'
At the same time, Rekha also denied being in a relationship with him, addressing all the rumours and controversies. 'There was never a personal connection with him, that's truth. Never ever. There was no truth to the controversies and speculation.' She had said.

Jaya Bachchan Cried After Watching Amitabh Bachchan, Rekha's Love Scenes: 'Tears Pouring Down...'

Last Updated: Rekha once claimed that Jaya Bachchan cried while watching her intimate scene with Amitabh Bachchan in Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, after which Big B decided not to work with her again. In 1970, rumours of a romance between Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha made headlines. While Big B always remained tight-lipped on the matter, Rekha has spoken about it in several interviews over the years. Back in 1978, when one of Amitabh and Rekha's last films together, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar released, the Umrao Jaan actor claimed to have witnessed Jaya Bachchan crying while watching their intimate scene. In an interview with Stardust magazine, Rekha mentioned that she saw tears rolling down Jaya's cheeks while watching the film Muqaddar Ka Sikandar and said, 'Once, I was looking at the whole (Bachchan) family through the projection room when they came to see the trial show of Muqaddar Ka Sikandar. Jaya was sitting in the front row, and he (Amitabh) and his parents were in the row behind her. They couldn't see her as clearly as I could. And during our love scenes, I could see tears pouring down her face." She further continued that only after the trial show did she hear whispers about Amitabh Bachchan's decision to not work with her anymore. The veteran star further added, 'A week later, everybody in the industry was telling me that he had made it clear to his producers that he was not going to work with me." These rumours about Rekha and Amitabh Bachchan gave wind to another news piece which claimed that Jaya's friendship with Rekha was strained for life. But contrary to the rumours, Rekha, in an interview with Simi Garewal, shared, 'Didibhai (Jaya) is much more mature, much more together. I've yet to come across a woman who is so together. She's got so much dignity, so much class. She's got a lot of strength. I admire that woman. We had an association before the so-called rumours and the media messed up the whole image. We were living in the same building and we had a relationship. She was my Didibhai, she still is – no matter what happens, nobody can take that away. Thank God she realises that too." Rekha and Amitabh Bachchan's last film together was Silsila (1981), directed by Yash Chopra. It remains one of the most talked-about films in Hindi cinema, largely due to the off-screen rumours surrounding Rekha, Amitabh, and Jaya Bachchan.

Ishaan Khatter Recalls Childhood Moment With Amitabh Bachchan On Sooryavansham Set: ‘I Pulled His Beard'

In a nostalgic interview, Ishaan Khatter fondly recalled visiting the set of Sooryavansham as a child and having a sweet moment with Amitabh Bachchan. If you've ever lazily flicked through TV channels on a weekend afternoon, chances are you've stumbled upon Sooryavansham—the cult classic that never seems to go off-air on Set Max. Though the film didn't fare well at the box office upon its 1999 release, it has since gained a loyal following. But for actor Ishaan Khatter, the film holds a more personal significance—he actually visited its set as a child, thanks to his actor-mother Neelima Azeem. In a recent chat with Mid-Day, Ishaan shared a delightful anecdote from his childhood. 'I think my mom once did a children's show called Nayantara, and I appeared on it too. It was a talk show where she spoke about parenting and motherhood. I've always been fascinated by film sets," he said. Recounting the moment he visited the sets of Sooryavansham, Ishaan added, 'She once took me to the sets of Sooryavansham, and apparently, I kept saying 'Bade Miyan, Bade Miyan' to Amitabh Bachchan, because I had seen Bade Miyan Chote Miyan," he laughed. What happened next has remained a cherished story in his family. 'He (Amitabh Bachchan) picked me up! And my mom later told me, 'You were the only kid he lifted, and you pulled his beard!' And he just smiled and said, 'It's okay.' These are the stories I've grown up hearing from my mom." In an earlier interview with Mashable India, Ishaan had also revealed how Amitabh Bachchan helped him get into school during his early years. 'At the time, she was trying to get me admitted into a school and Jamnabai was then one of the nicest schools. She was having trouble getting admission for me there and he very kindly, personally went and spoke to the authorities," he said. Neelima Azeem played Mrs. Varun Singh in Sooryavansham, while Ishaan's father, Rajesh Khattar, essayed her on-screen husband. For many, Sooryavansham may be just another film on a television loop. For Ishaan Khatter, though, it's a piece of childhood wrapped in warmth, wonder—and a beard-pulling incident with the Big B himself. First Published:

From Umrao Jaan to Pakeezah, how an archive frames Bollywood's unseen history

From Umrao Jaan to Pakeezah, how an archive frames Bollywood's unseen history Shruti Sonal TNN Jul 5, 2025, 19:35 IST IST For eighty years, Kamat Foto Flash has been chronicling Hindi cinema's most iconic movies through stills When Muzaffar Ali 's ' Umrao Jaan ' released in 1981, its poetic storytelling, the enigmatic Rekha , Asha Bhonsle's unforgettable songs, and the stunning set and costume design made it an instant classic. Over 40 years later, Ali, Rekha, and Bhonsle reunited in Mumbai to celebrate the release of the film's beautifully restored 4K version in theatres. Alongside the remastered film, Ali also launched a limited-edition coffee table book with photography stills that captured behind-the-scenes of the film's making. 'My background in advertising and painting has made me aware of the power that images hold. I thought a book would help in keeping the film's stills zinda (alive) for a long time, along with the different layers of truth that go behind a single scene in the film,' Ali says.
