Bahrain must stand firm in the face of regional turmoil, with national unity serving as the first line of defence, a Member of Parliament has urged.
Dr Maryam Al Dhaen, who sits on the Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee, said Bahrainis must uphold solidarity and resist any efforts to sow division, calling it a 'historic responsibility' for every citizen.
'We are aware of the magnitude of the surrounding dangers,' she said. 'We must rise to this historic responsibility by standing united against every attempt to destabilise or undermine our national principles. There is no room for complacency or division, as Bahrain is strong because of its people and their awareness.'
Support for leadership
Dr Al Dhaen affirmed full backing for the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, saying Bahrain's strength rests in its cohesion around wise governance.
She also praised Bahrain's foreign policy stance, describing it as balanced and rooted in peace and stability. Bahrain's 'firm and declared' position on regional developments, she said, is evidence of that commitment.
Calling on citizens to turn away from misinformation, Dr Al Dhaen cautioned against the dangers of rumour-mongering during tense times.
'Social media should be platforms for building and solidarity, not tools for destruction or spreading rumours,' she said, urging the public to rely only on official channels for updates.

Qatar Airspace Breach In a sharply worded statement, the committee condemned the recent breach of the sisterly State of Qatar's airspace, labelling it a violation of sovereignty and a breach of international law. The condemnation aligns with growing concern among Gulf nations about unchecked military manoeuvres in the region's skies. The committee reiterated its long-standing position advocating for a Middle East free from all weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear arms. It emphasised that the ban must be universal and non-discriminatory to ensure peace and security across Arab states. Focus on Palestine and Sudan In parallel discussions, the committee reaffirmed the centrality of the Palestinian issue, calling for an end to the continued violations against the Palestinian people. It also addressed the worsening conflict in Sudan, urging all parties to cease hostilities and resume dialogue to preserve national unity. Dr. Al Maawda's participation in these discussions highlighted Bahrain's active role in shaping Arab consensus during a time of heightened volatility in the Middle East.

Kingdom Seeks Asian Investment

Leading the Kingdom's delegation, Yousef Abdullah Al-Hamoud, Undersecretary for Financial Affairs at the Ministry of Finance and National Economy, held meetings with bank executives and other high-level officials to expand Bahrain's role in the region's infrastructure development map. Strategic engagement On the sidelines of the summit, Al-Hamoud met with Konstantin Lemtovsky, Chief Investment Officer at AIIB, and Junjing Wang, CEO of the Multilateral Cooperation Center for Development Financing. The discussions focused on enhancing joint cooperation and unlocking new opportunities for financing infrastructure, energy, and logistics projects in Bahrain. The summit, inaugurated by Li Keqiang, Premier of the State Council of China, brought together ministers, investors, and international organisations to address development challenges through strategic partnerships and sustainable infrastructure funding. Support for new leadership Al-Hamoud conveyed Bahrain's support for Ms. Zou Jiayi of China, who was elected by the AIIB Board of Governors as the bank's new President. He welcomed her vision for expanding the bank's contribution to development projects across member states and praised the AIIB's growing role in responding to climate and geopolitical changes. He also reaffirmed Bahrain's commitment to cooperating with the AIIB and aligning its national infrastructure strategies with the bank's regional investment goals. Platform for growth The AIIB, established in 2015, now includes 110 member countries. Its operational priorities span sectors such as transportation, energy, communications, agriculture, and urban development. Bahrain became a member in 2018 and continues to pursue opportunities to attract multilateral financing for strategic national projects.
