Breaking down the Steelers picks in new 3-round NFL mock draft
The Pittsburgh Steelers seem to have a plan at quarterback for the first time since the retirement of Ben Roethlisberger. The team signed Aaron Rodgers for the 2025 season, drafted former Ohio State quarterback Will Howard to see what they have with him, but have a plan to address the quarterback position with gusto in 2026. Most likely via the 2026 NFL draft, given the potential strength of the 2026 quarterback class.
Pro Football Network put out a new mock draft this week and they went straight to quarterback in the first round for the Steelers with a guy Pittsburgh fans should be very familiar with. Let's break down the picks.
First round - QB Drew Allar - Penn State
Don't get me wrong, I like Allar as a prospect. But to give you some perspective on his fit in the current NFL, my player comp is Joe Flacco. Is his lack of mobility a concern? Is his lack of touch on short throws something that can improve? Yes to both. If Allar can work on his short and intermediate throws and show a little more athleticism, this is a great pick.
Second round - Kevin Concepcion - Texas A&M
Concepcion is hoping for a fresh start at Texas A&M, but we aren't sure how about a smallish wide receiver fits as a second-round pick for the Steelers. They have quite a run of undersized wide receivers in this mock, which is a bit odd but if I'm picking one of the guys who is among the six taken in 11 picks, give me LSU's Barion Brown based on a more NFL-ready frame and athleticism.
Third round - CB Davin Igbinosun - Ohio State
Igbinosun is one of my favorite cornerbacks heading into this season thanks to his resume, size and technique. If the Steelers can land him in the third round to replace Darius Slay, he's a bargain.
Third round - IOL Jaeden Roberts - Alabama
As a potential replacement for Isaace Seumalo, we are on board with Roberts in the third round. Roberts is an absolute mauler and road grader who uses every bit of his power to punish defenders.

Eagles Should Target Steelers Tight End After Blockbuster Trade
Eagles Should Target Steelers Tight End After Blockbuster Trade originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Philadelphia Eagles already have a star on their roster at the tight end position. Dallas Goedert signed a restructured contract to remain with the organization this offseason. In his seven years with the team, he's caught 349 passes for over 4,000 yards and 24 touchdowns. Advertisement However, as good as the South Dakota State product has been throughout his career, there is a big reason why his future in Philly was so clouded this offseason. He has missed 15 games in the last three seasons because of several injuries. At 30 years old, legitimate questions surround whether Goedert can be the same dependable receiving option for the Eagles in 2025. With limited options currently on the roster, there aren't many other avenues for the team to trust if their star tight end gets hurt again. Until now. With the Pittsburgh Steelers acquiring former Miami Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith in a blockbuster deal that included All-Pro defensive backs Jalen Ramsey (to Pittsburgh) and Minkah Fitzpatrick (to Miami), the Black and Gold have added clear competition for their standout tight end. Advertisement Pat Freiermuth is 26 and coming off a respectable 65-catch season for the Steelers. While he has never made a Pro Bowl like Smith has, seeing the organization seemingly acquire a player at Freiermuth's position is eye-opening. It could also mean that the Steelers are looking to find a way to move their former second-round pick Freiermuth Freiermuth could be an excellent addition to the Eagles' roster this season. Eventually, they need to find a player they can trust to replace Goedert after 2025. The Penn State product may be the perfect match for that role. How Jalen Ramsey Trade Aids Bills in Title Push
How Jalen Ramsey Trade Aids Bills in Title Push originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Buffalo Bills were already favorites to win the AFC East this offseason. They had won five straight division titles, after all. Advertisement Their job is about to become much easier. With the Miami Dolphins trading away All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Fish have moved on from two of the better starters on their roster. Over the last few seasons, Miami was considered the top team in the AFC East that could match up against Buffalo from a skills perspective. As talented as Miami was, though, they have lost 11 of their last 12 matchups to the Bills. Things are about to get a lot worse for Miami Despite having a down year, Ramsey was still the best cornerback on the Dolphins roster in 2014. Now that he is gone, the former Jacksonville Jaguar and FSU star has left a massive hole in Miami's secondary. Advertisement As things stand now, Miami's starting cornerbacks consist of Kader Kohou, Storm Duck, and fifth-round rookie Jason Marshall Jr. None of these players has graded particularly well. It is safe to assume that Miami's pass defense will have major issues this season. That is great news for Josh Allen, the reigning MVP. Buffalo's franchise quarterback has thrown 37 touchdowns to just eight interceptions in 14 games against Miami. He is also 12-2 against the Fish during that time. The fact that the Dolphins have so many questions at cornerback this season won't help their chances. It may start a very uncomfortable rebuild for the organization moving forward. 2027 Four-Star Recruit Puts Florida in Top 12
2027 Four-Star Recruit Puts Florida in Top 12 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The University of Florida football program has long been recognized for its ability to produce top NFL talent at nearly every position group. In recent history, the tight end position has seen notable success, exemplified by Kyle Pitts being selected by the Atlanta Falcons with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft after an illustrious career with the Gators. Advertisement Florida is now looking for its next Pitts-esque recruit to lock down the tight end position for the future. Head coach Billy Napier and company hope they found it with Norwalk, Iowa's Luke Brewer. Brewer, who is a consensus four-star in the 2027 class, took to social media Thursday to announce he has narrowed down his recruitment to his top 12 teams, which includes Florida. "At this time my recruitment is still 100 percent open," Brewer said on X/Twitter. "But with that being said I have came out with this list based on feel, fit and the effort put in to making these talks with coaches! Not saying this is set in stone but as of right now let's roll." Norwalk High School tight end Luke BrewerEliot Clough The Norwalk High School product has turned heads due to his size and athletic ability. Standing at 6-foot-4.5 and weighing 228 pounds, Brewer has the makeup of an SEC tight end. He is ranked No. 4 among all recruits from the state of Iowa for the 2027 class and is the 17th-ranked tight end in the country in the 247Sports Composite rankings. Advertisement Along with the Gators, Brewer included SEC rivals Georgia, Tennessee and Texas A&M and national powerhouses like Notre Dame and Oregon in his top 12. However, the team Florida may have to watch out for the most on the recruiting trail is Iowa, which is known for its talent at the tight end position. The Hawkeyes, affectionately named "Tight End U," have had many greats at the position, including Dallas Clark, T.J. Hockenson and Noah Fant. While Iowa may have the upper hand in the recruiting battle for Brewer based on history and location, Napier and Florida will certainly make a run at the top tight end target.
