Breaking down the Steelers picks in new 3-round NFL mock draft
The Pittsburgh Steelers seem to have a plan at quarterback for the first time since the retirement of Ben Roethlisberger. The team signed Aaron Rodgers for the 2025 season, drafted former Ohio State quarterback Will Howard to see what they have with him, but have a plan to address the quarterback position with gusto in 2026. Most likely via the 2026 NFL draft, given the potential strength of the 2026 quarterback class.
Pro Football Network put out a new mock draft this week and they went straight to quarterback in the first round for the Steelers with a guy Pittsburgh fans should be very familiar with. Let's break down the picks.
First round - QB Drew Allar - Penn State
Don't get me wrong, I like Allar as a prospect. But to give you some perspective on his fit in the current NFL, my player comp is Joe Flacco. Is his lack of mobility a concern? Is his lack of touch on short throws something that can improve? Yes to both. If Allar can work on his short and intermediate throws and show a little more athleticism, this is a great pick.
Second round - Kevin Concepcion - Texas A&M
Concepcion is hoping for a fresh start at Texas A&M, but we aren't sure how about a smallish wide receiver fits as a second-round pick for the Steelers. They have quite a run of undersized wide receivers in this mock, which is a bit odd but if I'm picking one of the guys who is among the six taken in 11 picks, give me LSU's Barion Brown based on a more NFL-ready frame and athleticism.
Third round - CB Davin Igbinosun - Ohio State
Igbinosun is one of my favorite cornerbacks heading into this season thanks to his resume, size and technique. If the Steelers can land him in the third round to replace Darius Slay, he's a bargain.
Third round - IOL Jaeden Roberts - Alabama
As a potential replacement for Isaace Seumalo, we are on board with Roberts in the third round. Roberts is an absolute mauler and road grader who uses every bit of his power to punish defenders.

Advertisement Pat Freiermuth is 26 and coming off a respectable 65-catch season for the Steelers. While he has never made a Pro Bowl like Smith has, seeing the organization seemingly acquire a player at Freiermuth's position is eye-opening. It could also mean that the Steelers are looking to find a way to move their former second-round pick Freiermuth Freiermuth could be an excellent addition to the Eagles' roster this season. Eventually, they need to find a player they can trust to replace Goedert after 2025. The Penn State product may be the perfect match for that role. It is safe to assume that Miami's pass defense will have major issues this season. That is great news for Josh Allen, the reigning MVP. Buffalo's franchise quarterback has thrown 37 touchdowns to just eight interceptions in 14 games against Miami. He is also 12-2 against the Fish during that time. The fact that the Dolphins have so many questions at cornerback this season won't help their chances. It may start a very uncomfortable rebuild for the organization moving forward. Standing at 6-foot-4.5 and weighing 228 pounds, Brewer has the makeup of an SEC tight end. He is ranked No. 4 among all recruits from the state of Iowa for the 2027 class and is the 17th-ranked tight end in the country in the 247Sports Composite rankings. Advertisement Along with the Gators, Brewer included SEC rivals Georgia, Tennessee and Texas A&M and national powerhouses like Notre Dame and Oregon in his top 12. However, the team Florida may have to watch out for the most on the recruiting trail is Iowa, which is known for its talent at the tight end position. The Hawkeyes, affectionately named "Tight End U," have had many greats at the position, including Dallas Clark, T.J. Hockenson and Noah Fant. While Iowa may have the upper hand in the recruiting battle for Brewer based on history and location, Napier and Florida will certainly make a run at the top tight end target.
